잠언
1. 다윗의 아들 이스라엘 왕 솔로몬의 잠언이라. 1. The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
2. 이것은 지혜와 훈계를 알게 하며 명철의 말씀들을 파악하게 하고 2. To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3. 지혜와 정의와 판단의 공의와 공평의 훈계를 받게 하며 3. To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4. 단순한 자에게 민감함을 주고 젊은 자에게 지식과 분별을 주기 위한 것이니 4. To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5. 지혜로운 자는 듣고 학식을 더할 것이요, 명철한 자는 지혜로운 권고들을 얻어서 5. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6. 잠언과 해석과 지혜로운 자들의 말들과 그들의 은밀한 말들을 깨달을지니라. 6. To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7. ¶ {주}를 두려워하는 것이 지식의 시작이거늘 어리석은 자들은 지혜와 훈계를 멸시하느니라. 7. ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8. 내 아들아, 네 아버지의 훈계를 듣고 네 어머니의 법을 버리지 말라. 8. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
9. 그것들이 네 머리에 은혜의 장식이 되고 네 목에 사슬이 되리로다. 9. For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
10. ¶ 내 아들아, 죄인들이 너를 꾈지라도 너는 동의하지 말라. 10. ¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
11. 그들이 말하기를, 우리와 함께 가자. 우리가 숨어서 기다리다가 피를 흘리자. 우리가 무죄한 자들을 까닭 없이 몰래 숨어서 기다리다가 11. If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
12. 무덤같이 그들을 산 채로 삼키며 구덩이로 내려가는 자들같이 통째로 삼키자. 12. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
13. 우리가 모든 귀한 재물을 얻으며 노략물로 우리의 집들을 채우리니 13. We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
14. 너의 제비를 우리 가운데서 뽑고 우리가 다 돈주머니를 하나만 두자, 할지라도 14. Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
15. 내 아들아, 너는 그들과 함께 그 길로 다니지 말라. 네 발을 금하여 그들의 행로에서 떠나라. 15. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
16. 그들의 발은 악을 향해 달려가며 피를 흘리려고 서두르느니라. 16. For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
17. 참으로 새가 보는 데서 그물을 치는 것은 허사로다. 17. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
18. 그들이 자기 피를 흘리려고 숨어서 기다리며 자기 생명을 해하려고 몰래 숨어서 기다리나니 18. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
19. 이익을 탐하는 모든 자의 길들도 이러하여 그 이익이 그것의 소유자들의 생명을 앗아가느니라. 19. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
20. ¶ 지혜가 밖에서 외치며 거리에서 자기 목소리를 내고 20. ¶ Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
21. 군중이 모이는 중요한 곳과 성문 통로들에서 외치며 도시 안에서 자기의 말들을 내어 이르되, 21. She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
22. 단순한 자들아, 너희가 어느 때까지 단순함을 사랑하겠느냐? 비웃는 자들이 어느 때까지 자기들의 비웃는 것을 기뻐하고 어리석은 자들이 지식을 미워하겠느냐? 22. How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23. 너희는 내 책망을 듣고 돌이키라. 보라, 내가 내 영을 너희에게 부어 주며 내 말들을 너희에게 알려 주리라. 23. Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24. ¶ 내가 불렀으나 너희가 거절하였도다. 내가 내 손을 내밀었으나 아무도 중시하지 아니하였으며 24. ¶ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
25. 도리어 너희가 내 모든 권고를 무시하고 내 책망을 전혀 원치 아니하였은즉 25. But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
26. 나도 네 재난을 보고 웃으며 네 두려움이 이를 때에 조롱하리니 26. I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
27. 그때에 네 두려움이 황폐함같이 이르고 네 멸망이 회오리바람같이 이르며 네게 고난과 번민이 이르리라. 27. When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
28. 그때에 그들이 나를 부를 터이나 내가 대답하지 아니하겠고 그들이 일찍 나를 찾아도 나를 발견하지 못하리니 28. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
29. 이는 그들이 지식을 미워하고 {주} 두려워하기를 택하지 아니하며 29. For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
30. 내 권고를 전혀 원치 아니하고 내 모든 책망을 멸시하였기 때문이니라. 30. They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
31. 그러므로 그들이 자기 길에서 난 열매를 먹으며 자기 계략들로 채워지리니 31. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32. 단순한 자들의 돌이켜 떠나감이 그들을 죽이며 어리석은 자들의 형통함이 그들을 파멸시키리라. 32. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33. 그러나 누구든지 내 말에 귀를 기울이는 자는 안전히 거하며 재난의 두려움에서 벗어나 평안하리로다. 33. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
1. 내 아들아, 네가 만일 내 말들을 받으며 내 명령들을 네게 감추어 두기를 원하여 1. My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
2. 네 귀를 지혜에 기울이고 네 마음을 명철에 쏟으며 2. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
3. 참으로 지식을 따라가며 외치고 명철을 얻으려고 네 목소리를 높이며 3. Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4. 은을 구하는 것 같이 그것을 구하고 감추어진 보화들을 찾는 것 같이 그것을 찾으면 4. If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5. 그때에 {주} 두려워하는 것을 깨닫고 하나님 아는 것을 발견하리니 5. Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
6. 이는 {주}께서 지혜를 주시며 그분의 입에서 지식과 명철이 나오기 때문이니라. 6. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
7. 그분께서는 의로운 자들을 위하여 건전한 지혜를 모아 두시며 곧바르게 걷는 자들에게 방패가 되시고 7. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8. 공의의 행로들을 지키시며 자신의 성도들의 길을 보존하시나니 8. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
9. 그런즉 네가 의와 판단의 공의와 공평을 깨달으며 참으로 모든 선한 행로를 깨달으리로다. 9. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10. ¶ 지혜가 네 마음에 들어가며 지식이 네 혼에게 기쁨이 될 때에는 10. ¶ When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11. 분별이 너를 보존하며 명철이 너를 보호하여 11. Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
12. 악한 자의 길과 비뚤어진 것들을 말하는 자에게서 너를 건져 내리라. 12. To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13. 그들은 곧바른 행로들을 떠나 어두운 길들로 걸으며 13. Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14. 악 행하기를 기뻐하고 사악한 자들의 비뚤어진 것을 즐거워하나니 14. Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
15. 그들의 길들은 구부러지고 그들은 자기 행로들에서 비뚤어진 자들이로다. 15. Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:
16. 그것이 너를 낯선 여자에게서 곧 자기의 말들로 아첨하는 낯선 자에게서 건져 내리니 16. To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
17. 그녀는 자기의 젊은 시절의 안내자를 버리고 자기 하나님의 언약을 잊어버리는 자니라. 17. Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18. 그녀의 집은 사망으로, 그녀의 행로들은 죽은 자들에게로 기우나니 18. For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
19. 그녀에게로 가는 자는 다시 돌아오지 아니하며 또 그들은 생명의 행로들을 붙들지 아니하느니라. 19. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.
20. 이로써 네가 선한 자들의 길로 걸으며 의로운 자들의 행로들을 지키리니 20. That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21. 이는 곧바른 자들이 땅에 거하며 완전한 자들이 그 안에 남을 것이기 때문이라. 21. For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
22. 그러나 사악한 자들은 땅에서 끊어지고 범법자들은 땅에서 뿌리째 뽑히리라. 22. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
1. 내 아들아, 내 법을 잊지 말고 네 마음이 내 명령들을 지키게 할지어다. 1. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2. 그것들이 네게 많은 날과 오래 사는 것과 화평을 더하리라. 2. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3. 긍휼과 진리가 네게서 떠나지 말게 하고 그것들을 네 목에 매며 네 마음 판에 기록하라. 3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4. 그리하면 네가 하나님과 사람의 눈앞에서 호의와 선한 명철을 얻으리라. 4. So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5. ¶ 네 마음을 다하여 {주}를 신뢰하고 네 자신의 명철을 의지하지 말지어다. 5. ¶ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6. 네 모든 길에서 그분을 인정하라. 그리하면 그분께서 네 행로들을 지도하시리라. 6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7. ¶ 네 눈에 지혜롭게 되지 말지어다. {주}를 두려워하며 악을 떠날지어다. 7. ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8. 그것이 네 배꼽에 건강이 되며 네 뼈에 골수가 되리라. 8. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9. 네 재물과 네 모든 소출의 첫 열매로 {주}를 공경하라. 9. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10. 그리하면 네 창고가 가득히 차고 네 포도즙 틀이 새 포도즙으로 터져 넘치리라. 10. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
11. ¶ 내 아들아, {주}의 징계를 멸시하지 말며 그분께서 바로잡아 주시는 것에 싫증을 내지 말라. 11. ¶ My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
12. 아버지가 자기가 기뻐하는 아들을 바로잡아 주는 것 같이 {주}께서 자신이 사랑하는 자를 바로잡아 주시느니라. 12. For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
13. ¶ 지혜를 찾는 자와 명철을 얻는 자는 행복하니 13. ¶ Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14. 지혜를 거래하는 것이 은을 거래하는 것보다 나으며 그것의 이익이 정금보다 나으니라. 14. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15. 지혜는 루비보다 귀하니 네가 바랄 수 있는 모든 것이 그것과 비교될 수 없도다. 15. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16. 지혜의 오른손에는 많은 날이 있고 지혜의 왼손에는 재물과 명예가 있나니 16. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17. 지혜의 길들은 즐거운 길이요, 지혜의 모든 행로는 화평이니라. 17. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18. 지혜는 그것을 붙잡는 자들에게 생명나무니 그것을 간직하는 자는 다 행복하도다. 18. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
19. {주}께서는 지혜로 땅의 기초를 놓으셨으며 명철로 하늘들을 굳게 세우셨도다. 19. The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
20. 그분의 지식으로 말미암아 깊음들이 터져 오르며 구름들이 이슬을 내리는도다. 20. By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21. ¶ 내 아들아, 그것들이 네 눈에서 떠나지 말게 하고 건전한 지혜와 분별을 지킬지어다. 21. ¶ My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22. 그리하면 그것들이 네 혼에게 생명이 되고 네 목에 은혜가 되리니 22. So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
23. 그런즉 네가 네 길에서 안전히 걸으며 네 발이 걸려 넘어지지 아니하리라. 23. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24. 네가 누울 때에 무서워하지 아니하리니 참으로 네가 누운즉 네 잠이 달리로다. 24. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25. 갑작스러운 두려움이나 사악한 자가 황폐하게 하는 일이 올 때에 그것을 무서워하지 말라. 25. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26. {주}께서 네 확신이 되시므로 네 발을 지켜 거기 걸려들지 아니하게 하시리라. 26. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
27. ¶ 네 손 안에 선을 베풀 힘이 있거든 마땅히 그것을 받을 자들에게 선 베풀기를 금하지 말며 27. ¶ Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
28. 그것이 네 곁에 있거든 네 이웃에게 이르기를, 갔다가 다시 오라. 내가 내일 주리라, 하지 말고 28. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
29. 네 이웃이 네 곁에서 안전히 거하는 것을 보거든 그를 해하려고 악을 꾀하지 말라. 29. Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
30. ¶ 사람이 네게 악을 행하지 아니하였거든 까닭 없이 그와 다투지 말라. 30. ¶ Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31. ¶ 너는 학대하는 자를 부러워하지 말며 그의 길들 중 어떤 길도 택하지 말라. 31. ¶ Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
32. 비뚤어진 자는 {주}께 가증한 자니라. 그러나 의로운 자에게는 그분의 은밀한 일이 함께하느니라. 32. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.
33. ¶ 사악한 자의 집에는 {주}의 저주가 있거니와 의인의 처소는 그분께서 복을 주시느니라. 33. ¶ The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
34. 참으로 그분께서는 비웃는 자들을 비웃으시나 겸손한 자들에게는 은혜를 베푸시느니라. 34. Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
35. 지혜로운 자는 영광을 상속받되 어리석은 자가 높여지는 것은 수치가 되리로다. 35. The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
1. 자녀들아, 너희는 아버지의 훈계를 들으며 주의를 기울여 명철을 알라. 1. Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2. 내가 너희에게 선한 교리를 주나니 너희는 내 법을 버리지 말라. 2. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3. 나도 내 아버지의 아들이었으며 내 어머니의 눈앞에서 연약하고 유일하게 사랑받는 자였노라. 3. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4. 아버지도 나를 가르쳐 내게 이르기를, 내 말들을 네 마음에 간직하라. 내 명령들을 지키라. 그리하면 살리라. 4. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5. 지혜를 얻으며 명철을 얻으라. 그것을 잊지 말며 내 입의 말들에서 돌이키지 말라. 5. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6. 지혜를 버리지 말라. 그리하면 그것이 너를 보존하리라. 그것을 사랑하라. 그리하면 그것이 너를 보호하리라. 6. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7. 지혜는 으뜸가는 것이니 그러므로 지혜를 얻으라. 네가 얻은 모든 것으로 명철을 얻을지니라. 7. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8. 그것을 높이라. 그리하면 그것이 너를 높이리라. 네가 그것을 품으면 그것이 너를 존귀로 인도하리라. 8. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9. 그것이 네 머리에 은혜의 장식을 주며 영광의 관을 네게 건네주리라, 하셨느니라. 9. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.
10. 오 내 아들아, 들으라. 내 말들을 받으라. 그리하면 네 삶의 햇수가 많게 되리라. 10. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11. 내가 지혜의 길로 너를 가르치며 바른 행로들로 너를 인도하였은즉 11. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12. 네가 다닐 때에 네 걸음이 좁아지지 아니하고 네가 달릴 때에 걸려 넘어지지 아니하리라. 12. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13. 훈계는 네 생명인즉 그것을 굳게 붙잡으며 그것을 놓치지 말고 지키라. 13. Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14. ¶ 사악한 자들의 행로로 들어가지 말고 악한 자들의 길로 다니지 말지어다. 14. ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15. 그것을 피하고 그 곁으로 지나가지 말며 거기서 돌이켜 떠나갈지어다. 15. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16. 그들은 해악을 행하지 아니하면 자지 못하고 누군가를 넘어뜨리지 못하면 잠들지 못하며 16. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17. 사악함의 빵을 먹고 폭력의 포도주를 마시느니라. 17. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18. 그러나 의인들의 행로는 빛나는 광체 같아서 점점 더 빛나 완전한 낮에 이르거니와 18. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19. 사악한 자들의 길은 어둠 같아서 그들은 무엇에 걸려 넘어지는지도 알지 못하느니라. 19. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20. ¶ 내 아들아, 내 말들에 주의를 기울이며 내가 말하는 것에 네 귀를 기울이라. 20. ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21. 그것들을 네 눈에서 떠나게 하지 말며 네 마음 한가운데 간직하라. 21. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22. 그것들은 그것들을 찾는 자들에게 생명이 되며 그들 모두의 육체에 건강이 되느니라. 22. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23. ¶ 열심을 다하여 네 마음을 지키라. 생명의 근원이 거기에서 나오느니라. 23. ¶ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
24. 비뚤어진 입을 네게서 버리며 뒤틀어진 입술을 네게서 멀리 하라. 24. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
25. 네 눈은 바로 보고 네 눈꺼풀은 네 앞을 곧게 볼지어다. 25. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26. 네 발의 행로를 곰곰이 생각하며 네 모든 길을 굳게 세우라. 26. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
27. 오른쪽으로나 왼쪽으로나 치우치지 말고 네 발을 악에서 떠나게 할지어다. 27. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
1. 내 아들아, 내 지혜에 주의를 기울이며 내 명철에 네 귀를 기울이라. 1. My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2. 이것은 네가 분별을 중시하고 네 입술이 지식을 간직하게 하려 함이니라. 2. That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3. ¶ 낯선 여자의 입술은 벌집같이 꿀을 떨어뜨리며 그녀의 입은 기름보다 미끄러우니라. 3. ¶ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4. 그러나 그녀의 마지막은 쑥같이 쓰고 양날 달린 검같이 날카로우며 4. But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
5. 그녀의 발은 사망으로 내려가고 그녀의 걸음은 지옥을 굳게 붙드느니라. 5. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6. 그런즉 네가 생명의 행로를 곰곰이 생각하지 못하며 그녀의 길들이 움직이므로 네가 능히 그것들을 알지 못하느니라. 6. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
7. 그런즉, 오 자녀들아, 너희는 이제 내 말을 듣고 내 입의 말들에서 떠나지 말라. 7. Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
8. 네 길을 그녀에게서 멀리 옮기라. 그녀의 집 문에도 가까이 가지 말라. 8. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9. 네가 네 존귀를 남들에게 주며 네 삶의 햇수를 잔인한 자들에게 줄까 염려하노라. 9. Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10. 낯선 자들이 네 재물로 충만하게 되며 네가 수고한 것들이 낯선 자의 집에 있게 될까 염려하노라. 10. Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
11. 또한 마지막에 이르러 네 살과 네 몸이 소멸될 때에 네가 애곡하며 11. And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12. 말하기를, 내가 어찌 훈계를 미워하고 내 마음이 책망을 멸시하여 12. And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13. 내 선생들의 목소리에 순종하지 아니하고 나를 훈계하던 이들에게 귀를 기울이지 아니하였던가! 13. And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14. 내가 회중과 집회의 한가운데서 모든 악 속에 거의 빠지게 되었도다, 할까 염려하노라. 14. I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15. ¶ 네 물 저장고에서 물을 마시며 네 우물에서 흐르는 물을 마시라. 15. ¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16. 네 샘들이 널리 퍼지며 거리들에서 물 많은 강들이 되게 하되 16. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17. 그것들이 오직 네 것이 되게 하며 너와 함께하는 낯선 자들의 것이 되지 못하게 하라. 17. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18. 네 샘이 복되게 하며 또 네가 젊을 때 취한 아내와 더불어 기뻐하라. 18. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19. 너는 그녀를 사랑스러운 암사슴같이, 아름다운 노루같이 여기며 언제나 그녀의 젖가슴으로 만족하고 항상 그녀의 사랑으로 인하여 기뻐하라. 19. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20. 내 아들아, 어찌하여 네가 낯선 여자로 인해 기뻐하며 낯선 자의 가슴을 껴안으려 하느냐? 20. And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21. 사람의 길들은 {주}의 눈앞에 있나니 그분께서 그가 가는 모든 길을 곰곰이 살피시느니라. 21. For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22. ¶ 사악한 자는 스스로 자기 불법들에 걸리며 자기 죄들의 줄에 매이리니 22. ¶ His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23. 그는 훈계가 없으므로 죽을 것이요, 자신의 큰 어리석음으로 인해 길을 잃으리로다. 23. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
1. 내 아들아, 네가 만일 네 친구를 위해 보증인이 되거나 나그네와 더불어 네 손을 마주쳐서 서약하였으면 1. My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
2. 네 입의 말들로 인하여 네가 올무에 걸렸으며 네 입의 말들로 인하여 네가 붙잡히게 되었느니라. 2. Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
3. 내 아들아, 네가 네 친구의 손에 빠졌은즉 이제 이같이 하여 네 자신을 건지라. 가서 겸손히 행하며 네 친구로 하여금 확신을 갖게 하라. 3. Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
4. 네 눈이 잠들지 말게 하며 네 눈꺼풀이 졸지 말게 하고 4. Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5. 노루가 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이, 새가 새 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이 네 자신을 건질지어다. 5. Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6. ¶ 너 게으른 자여, 개미에게 가서 개미의 길들을 깊이 살펴보고 지혜로운 자가 되라. 6. ¶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7. 개미는 인도자도 없고 감독도 없고 치리자도 없으되 7. Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8. 여름에 자기의 먹을 것을 예비하며 수확 때에 자기 양식을 모으느니라. 8. Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9. 오 게으른 자여, 네가 어느 때까지 자려느냐? 네가 어느 때에 잠에서 일어나려느냐? 9. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10. 좀 더 자자. 좀 더 졸자. 손을 모으고 좀 더 자자, 하면 10. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11. 네 빈궁이 여행자같이, 네 궁핍이 군사같이 이르리로다. 11. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
12. ¶ 품행이 나쁜 자 곧 사악한 자는 비뚤어진 입을 가지고 걸어 다니며 12. ¶ A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13. 눈으로 눈짓을 하고 발로 말을 하며 손가락으로 가르치나니 13. He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14. 그는 자기 마음속에 비뚤어진 것을 품으며 계속해서 해악을 꾀하고 불화를 뿌리느니라. 14. Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15. 그러므로 그의 재앙이 갑자기 임하리니 그가 구할 길도 없이 갑자기 패망하리라. 15. Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
16. ¶ {주}께서 이 여섯 가지를 미워하시며 참으로 일곱 가지가 그분께 가증한 것이니 16. ¶ These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17. 곧 교만한 눈빛과 거짓된 혀와 무죄한 피를 흘리는 손과 17. A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18. 사악한 상상의 꾀를 꾸미는 마음과 신속히 해악으로 치닫는 발과 18. An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19. 거짓들을 말하는 거짓 증인과 형제들 가운데 불화를 뿌리는 자니라. 19. A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
20. ¶ 내 아들아, 네 아버지의 명령을 지키고 네 어머니의 법을 버리지 말며 20. ¶ My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21. 그것들을 계속해서 네 마음에 묶어 두고 네 목에 매어 두라. 21. Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22. 그것이 네가 다닐 때에 너를 인도하고 네가 잘 때에 너를 보호하며 네가 깰 때에 너와 말하리니 22. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23. 그 명령은 등불이요, 그 법은 빛이며 훈계하는 책망들은 생명의 길이니라. 23. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24. 그것이 너를 지켜 악한 여자에게서 떠나게 하며 낯선 여자의 혀에서 나오는 아첨하는 말에서 떠나게 하리라. 24. To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25. 그녀의 아름다움을 따라 네 마음속에 정욕을 품지 말며 그녀가 그녀의 눈꺼풀로 너를 붙잡지 못하게 하라. 25. Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26. 음탕한 여자로 말미암아 남자가 빵 한 조각을 얻으려고 끌려가나니 간음하는 여자는 귀중한 생명을 사냥하리로다. 26. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
27. 사람이 자기 품에 불을 품고 자기 옷이 타지 않게 할 수 있겠느냐? 27. Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28. 사람이 뜨거운 숯을 밟고 자기 발이 타지 않게 할 수 있겠느냐? 28. Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
29. 자기 이웃의 아내에게로 들어가는 자도 그와 같으리라. 누구든지 그녀에게 손을 대는 자는 무죄하지 아니하리라. 29. So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
30. 만일 도둑이 주릴 때에 자기 혼을 만족시키려고 도둑질을 하면 사람들이 그를 멸시하지는 아니하느니라. 30. Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
31. 그러나 그가 들키면 일곱 배를 갚아야 하리니 그가 자기 집의 모든 재산을 주어야 하리라. 31. But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
32. 그러나 누구든지 여자와 간음하는 자는 명철이 부족한 자니라. 그것을 행하는 자는 자기 자신의 혼을 망하게 하며 32. But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
33. 상처와 불명예를 얻고 자기의 치욕을 씻지 못하리라. 33. A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34. 한 남자의 격노는 질투이므로 원수 갚는 날에 그가 용서하지 아니하고 34. For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35. 어떤 대속물도 중히 여기지 아니하며 네가 많은 선물을 줄지라도 그가 만족하여 쉬지 아니하리라. 35. He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
1. 내 아들아, 내 말들을 지키며 내 명령들을 네게 쌓아 두라. 1. My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2. 내 명령들을 지켜서 살며 내 법을 네 눈동자처럼 지키라. 2. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3. 그것들을 네 손가락에 묶으며 네 마음 판에 기록하라. 3. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4. 지혜에게 말하기를, 너는 내 누이라, 하고 명철을 가리켜 네 친족 여인이라 하라. 4. Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5. 그리하면 그것들이 너를 지켜 낯선 여자에게서 곧 말들로 아첨하는 낯선 자에게서 벗어나게 하리라. 5. That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
6. ¶ 내가 내 집의 창문에서 창틀을 통해 내다보며 6. ¶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7. 단순한 자들 가운데서 살피다가 젊은이들 가운데 명철이 없는 한 젊은이를 분간해 내었노라. 7. And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8. 그가 그녀의 길모퉁이에 가까이 있는 거리를 지나 그녀의 집을 향한 길로 갔는데 8. Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
9. 그때는 황혼이 지고 저녁이 되어 어둡고 캄캄한 밤이었노라. 9. In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10. 그런데, 보라, 창녀의 차림을 하고 마음이 간교한 여자가 거기서 그를 맞았는데 10. And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11. (그 여자는 시끄럽고 고집이 세며 발을 자기 집에 머물지 못하게 하여 11. (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12. 지금 밖에 나와 있는 자며 지금 거리에서 모든 모퉁이에서 숨어 사람을 기다리는 자라.) 12. Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13. 이에 그녀가 그를 붙잡고 그에게 입을 맞추며 뻔뻔스러운 얼굴로 그에게 말하되, 13. So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14. 내게 화평 헌물들이 있으며 이 날 내가 내 서원을 갚았노라. 14. I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15. 그러므로 내가 너를 맞으려고 나와서 부지런히 네 얼굴을 찾다가 너를 만났노라. 15. Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16. 내가 수놓은 융단 덮개와 조각품과 이집트의 고운 아마포로 내 침상을 장식하고 16. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17. 몰약과 알로에와 육계로 내 침상에서 향내가 나게 하였노라. 17. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18. 오라, 우리가 아침까지 흡족하게 우리의 사랑을 나누며 사랑으로 우리 자신을 위안하자. 18. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19. 집주인이 긴 여행을 떠나 집에 없는데 19. For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20. 그가 돈주머니를 가지고 갔은즉 정한 날에야 집에 돌아오리라, 하여 20. He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21. 자기의 많은 좋은 말로 그를 굴복시키며 자기 입술의 아첨하는 말로 그를 강제로 이끌므로 21. With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22. 그가 마치 소가 도살장으로 가는 것 같이 혹은 어리석은 자가 교정을 받으려고 차꼬를 차러 가는 것 같이 즉시 그녀를 따라가는도다. 22. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23. 마침내 화살이 그의 간을 꿰뚫으리니 이것은 마치 새가 빨리 올무에 들어가되 그것이 자기 생명을 노리는 줄을 알지 못하는 것과 같으니라. 23. Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24. ¶ 그런즉, 오 자녀들아, 너희는 이제 내 말에 귀를 기울이며 내 입의 말들에 주의를 기울이라. 24. ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25. 네 마음이 그녀의 길들로 기울지 않게 하고 그녀의 행로들 안에서 길을 잃지 않게 하라. 25. Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26. 그녀가 많은 사람들을 상하게 하여 내던졌나니 참으로 많은 강한 남자들이 그녀로 말미암아 죽임을 당하였느니라. 26. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27. 그녀의 집은 지옥에 이르는 길 곧 사망의 방들로 내려가는 길이니라. 27. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
1. 지혜가 외치지 아니하느냐? 명철이 자기 음성을 내지 아니하느냐? 1. Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?
2. 그것이 높은 곳들의 꼭대기와 행로들이 있는 장소들의 길 곁에 서서 2. She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.
3. 성문들과 도시 입구와 문들로 들어오는 곳에서 외쳐 이르되, 3. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.
4. 오 사람들아, 내가 너희를 부르나니 내 음성은 사람의 아들들을 향한 것이니라. 4. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.
5. 오 단순한 자들아, 너희는 지혜를 깨달으라. 너희 어리석은 자들아, 너희는 명철한 마음을 가질지어다. 5. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
6. 들으라. 내가 뛰어난 것들을 말하리니 내 입술을 열면 올바른 것들이 나오리라. 6. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
7. 내 입이 진리를 말하리니 사악함은 내 입술에 가증한 것이로다. 7. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8. 내 입의 모든 말은 의로움 가운데 있으므로 그것들 속에는 비뚤어지거나 뒤틀린 것이 없나니 8. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
9. 깨닫는 자에게는 그것들이 다 명백하며 지식을 얻는 자들에게는 올바르도다. 9. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
10. 은을 받지 말고 나의 훈계를 받으며 최상의 금보다 지식을 받으라. 10. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
11. 지혜는 루비보다 좋으며 사람이 원하는 모든 것이 그것과 비교될 수 없느니라. 11. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
12. 나 지혜는 분별과 함께 거하며 재치 있는 창안물들에 대한 지식을 찾아내나니 12. I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.
13. {주}를 두려워하는 것은 악을 미워하는 것이니라. 나는 교만과 거만과 악한 길과 비뚤어진 입을 미워하느니라. 13. The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
14. 계략과 건전한 지혜가 내 것이니 나는 명철이니라. 내게 능력이 있으므로 14. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
15. 나를 통해 왕들이 통치하며 통치자들이 정의를 포고하고 15. By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
16. 나를 통해 통치자들과 고귀한 자들 곧 땅의 모든 재판관들이 다스리느니라. 16. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
17. 나를 사랑하는 자들을 내가 사랑하나니 일찍 나를 찾는 자들이 나를 만나리라. 17. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
18. 재물과 명예가 내게 있나니 참으로 오래 지속되는 재물과 의가 내게 있도다. 18. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
19. 내 열매는 금보다 나으니 참으로 정금보다 나으며 내 소득은 최상의 은보다 낫도다. 19. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
20. 내가 의의 길로 인도하며 판단의 행로들 한가운데로 인도하나니 20. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
21. 이것은 내가 나를 사랑하는 자들로 하여금 재산을 상속받게 하려 함이라. 내가 그들의 창고들을 채우리라. 21. That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
22. {주}께서 자신의 길을 시작하실 때에, 자신의 옛적 일들을 행하시기 전에 나를 소유하셨으며 22. The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
23. 영원부터, 처음부터 또는 땅이 있은 이래로 내가 세워졌노라. 23. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
24. 깊음들이 없을 때에, 물을 풍성히 내는 샘들이 없을 때에 내가 드러났으며 24. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
25. 산들이 정착하기 전에, 작은 산들이 있기 전에 내가 드러났으니 25. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:
26. 곧 그분께서 아직 땅도 들도 세상 흙의 가장 높은 부분도 만들지 아니하셨을 때에라. 26. While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
27. 그분께서 하늘들을 예비하실 때에 내가 거기 있었으며 그분께서 깊음의 표면에 한계를 정하시고 27. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
28. 위로 구름들을 굳게 세우시며 깊음의 샘들을 강하게 하시고 28. When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
29. 바다에게 자신의 칙령을 내리사 물들이 자신의 명령을 넘어가지 못하게 하시며 또 땅의 기초들을 지정하신 그때에 29. When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
30. 내가 그분과 함께하며 자란 자로서 그분 곁에 있어 날마다 그분의 기쁨이 되었고 항상 그분 앞에서 기뻐하였으며 30. Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
31. 그분의 땅의 거할 만한 곳에서 기뻐하였고 내 기쁨들이 사람들의 아들들과 함께하였노라. 31. Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
32. 그런즉, 오 자녀들아, 너희는 이제 내 말에 귀를 기울이라. 내 길들을 지키는 자들은 복이 있느니라. 32. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.
33. 훈계를 들으며 지혜로운 자가 되라. 그것을 거절하지 말라. 33. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
34. 내 말을 들으며 날마다 내 성문들에서 지켜보고 내 문들의 기둥들에서 기다리는 자는 복이 있나니 34. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.
35. 누구든지 나를 찾는 자는 생명을 얻고 {주}의 호의를 얻으리라. 35. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
36. 그러나 나를 대적하여 죄를 짓는 자는 자기 혼을 해치나니 나를 미워하는 모든 자는 사망을 사랑하느니라. 36. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
1. 지혜가 자기 집을 짓고 자기의 일곱 기둥을 깎아 만들며 1. Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2. 자기 짐승들을 잡고 자기 포도즙을 섞으며 또 자기 상을 차리고 2. She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3. 자기 여종들을 보내었나니 그녀가 도시의 가장 높은 곳들 위에서 외쳐 이르기를, 3. She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4. 누구든지 단순한 자는 이리로 돌이키라, 하고 또 명철이 부족한 자에 관하여는 이르기를, 4. Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5. 와서 내 빵을 먹고 내가 섞은 포도즙을 마시며 5. Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6. 어리석음을 버리고 살지어다. 명철의 길로 갈지어다, 하느니라. 6. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7. 비웃는 자를 책망하는 자는 자기가 수치를 당하고 사악한 자를 꾸짖는 자는 자기가 흠을 잡히느니라. 7. He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.
8. 비웃는 자를 책망하지 말라. 그가 너를 미워할까 염려하노라. 지혜로운 자를 꾸짖으라. 그가 너를 사랑하리라. 8. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9. 지혜로운 자에게 훈계를 주라. 그러면 그가 더욱 지혜롭게 되리라. 의로운 자를 가르치라. 그러면 그의 학식이 늘어나리라. 9. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10. {주}를 두려워하는 것이 지혜의 시작이요, 거룩한 것들을 아는 것이 명철이니 10. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
11. 나로 말미암아 네 날들이 많게 되며 네 삶의 햇수가 늘어나리라. 11. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
12. 네가 만일 지혜로우면 너 자신을 위해 지혜로울 것이로되 네가 만일 조롱하면 너 홀로 그것을 담당하리라. 12. If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.
13. ¶ 어리석은 여자는 시끄럽고 단순해서 아무것도 알지 못하나니 13. A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.
14. 그녀는 자기 집 문에 앉고 도시의 높은 곳들에 있는 자리에 앉아서 14. For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
15. 자기 길을 바르게 가는 행인들을 불러 말하되, 15. To call passengers who go right on their ways:
16. 누구든지 단순한 자는 이리로 돌이키라, 하고 또 명철이 부족한 자에 관하여는 이르기를, 16. Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17. 도둑질한 물이 달고 은밀히 먹는 빵이 맛이 있다, 하느니라. 17. Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18. 그러나 그는 죽은 자들이 거기 있는 것과 그녀의 객들이 지옥의 깊음들 속에 있는 것을 알지 못하느니라. 18. But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
1. 솔로몬의 잠언이라. 지혜로운 아들은 아버지를 즐겁게 하거니와 어리석은 아들은 자기 어머니의 근심거리니라. 1. The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2. 사악함의 보물은 아무 유익도 끼치지 못하나 의는 죽음에서 건지느니라. 2. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3. {주}께서 의로운 자의 혼이 주리는 것은 허락하지 아니하실 터이나 사악한 자의 재산은 내던지시느니라. 3. The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4. 손을 느리게 놀리는 자는 가난하게 되나 부지런한 자의 손은 부하게 만드느니라. 4. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5. 여름에 거두는 자는 지혜로운 아들이나 수확 때에 잠자는 자는 수치를 끼치는 아들이니라. 5. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6. 복은 의인의 머리 위에 있으나 폭력은 사악한 자의 입을 덮느니라. 6. Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7. 의인을 기념하는 것은 복된 일이나 사악한 자의 이름은 썩으리로다. 7. The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8. 마음이 지혜로운 자는 명령들을 받아들이되 수다를 떠는 어리석은 자는 넘어지리로다. 8. The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9. 곧바르게 걷는 자는 안전히 걸으나 자기 길들을 굽게 만드는 자는 남에게 알려지리로다. 9. He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10. 눈으로 눈짓하는 자는 슬픔을 끼치되 수다를 떠는 어리석은 자는 넘어지리로다. 10. He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
11. 의로운 자의 입은 생명 샘이로되 폭력은 사악한 자의 입을 덮느니라. 11. The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12. 미움은 다툼들을 일으키되 사랑은 모든 죄를 덮느니라. 12. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13. 명철이 있는 자의 입술에서 지혜를 찾으려니와 명철이 없는 자의 등을 위해 회초리가 있느니라. 13. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14. 지혜로운 자들은 지식을 쌓거니와 어리석은 자의 입은 멸망에 가까우니라. 14. Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15. 부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 도시요, 가난한 자들의 궁핍은 그들의 멸망이니라. 15. The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16. 의로운 자의 수고는 생명으로 향하며 사악한 자의 열매는 죄로 향하느니라. 16. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17. 훈계를 지키는 자는 생명의 길에 있거니와 책망을 거절하는 자는 잘못 행하느니라. 17. He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
18. 거짓말하는 입술로 미움을 감추는 자와 헐뜯는 말을 내는 자는 어리석은 자니라. 18. He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19. 말이 많은 곳에는 죄가 부족하지 아니하거니와 자기 입술을 금하는 자는 지혜로우니라. 19. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20. 의인의 혀는 최상의 은 같으며 사악한 자의 마음은 가치가 적으니라. 20. The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21. 의로운 자의 입술은 많은 사람을 먹이나 어리석은 자들은 지혜가 부족하여 죽느니라. 21. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
22. {주}의 복, 그것은 사람을 부하게 하나니 그분께서는 그것에 슬픔을 더하지 아니하시느니라. 22. The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
23. 해악을 행하는 것이 어리석은 자에게는 오락과 같으나 명철한 자에게는 지혜가 있느니라. 23. It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24. 사악한 자에게는 그가 두려워하는 것이 임하려니와 의로운 자에게는 원하는 바가 주어지리로다. 24. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25. 사악한 자는 회오리바람이 지나가는 것 같이 더 이상 존재하지 아니하나 의로운 자는 영존하는 기초가 되느니라. 25. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26. 게으른 자는 그를 보내는 자들에게 마치 이에 식초 같고 눈에 연기 같으니라. 26. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
27. {주}를 두려워하는 것이 사람의 날들을 길게 하거니와 사악한 자의 햇수는 짧아지리로다. 27. The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28. 의로운 자의 소망은 즐거움이 되려니와 사악한 자의 기대는 사라지리로다. 28. The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29. {주}의 길이 곧바른 자들에게는 힘이 되거니와 불법을 행하는 자들에게는 멸망이 있으리로다. 29. The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30. 의로운 자는 결코 제거되지 아니하려니와 사악한 자는 땅에 거주하지 못하리로다. 30. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31. 의인의 입은 지혜를 내놓으나 비뚤어진 혀는 끊어지리로다. 31. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32. 의로운 자의 입술은 그분께서 받으실 만한 것을 알거니와 사악한 자의 입은 비뚤어진 것을 말하느니라. 32. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
1. 거짓된 저울은 {주}께 가증한 것이나 공정한 추는 그분께서 기뻐하시는 것이니라. 1. A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
2. 교만이 오면 수치도 오거니와 겸손한 자에게는 지혜가 있느니라. 2. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
3. 곧바른 자들의 순전함은 그들을 인도하려니와 범법자들의 거역함은 그들을 망하게 하리로다. 3. The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
4. 재물은 진노의 날에 유익을 끼치지 못하나 의는 사망에서 건지느니라. 4. Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
5. 완전한 자의 의는 그의 길을 인도하려니와 사악한 자는 자기의 사악함으로 말미암아 넘어지리로다. 5. The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
6. 곧바른 자들의 의는 그들을 건지려니와 범법자들은 자기들의 해악으로 인해 붙잡히리로다. 6. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
7. 사악한 자가 죽으면 그의 기대하는 바가 사라지리니 불의한 자들의 소망은 사라지느니라. 7. When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.
8. 의로운 자는 고난에서 구출되며 그를 대신해서 사악한 자가 오느니라. 8. The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
9. 위선자는 자기 입으로 자기 이웃을 망하게 하나 의인은 지식으로 말미암아 구출되리로다. 9. An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.
10. 의로운 자가 잘되면 도시가 기뻐하고 사악한 자가 망하면 환호하느니라. 10. When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11. 도시는 곧바른 자의 축복으로 인하여 높여지나 사악한 자의 입으로 인하여 무너지느니라. 11. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
12. 지혜가 없는 자는 자기 이웃을 멸시하나 명철한 자는 잠잠하느니라. 12. He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
13. 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자는 은밀한 일들을 드러내나 신실한 영을 지닌 자는 문제를 숨기느니라. 13. A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
14. 조언이 없으면 백성이 넘어져도 조언자가 많으면 안전이 있느니라. 14. Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
15. 낯선 자를 위해 보증인이 되는 자는 그 일로 인하여 괴로워할 것이로되 보증을 서기 싫어하는 자는 안전하니라. 15. He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.
16. 은혜로운 여자는 명예를 유지하며 강한 남자들은 재물을 유지하느니라. 16. A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
17. 긍휼을 베푸는 자는 자기 혼에게 선을 행하나 잔인한 자는 자기 육체를 괴롭게 하느니라. 17. The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
18. 사악한 자는 속이는 일을 행하나 의를 뿌리는 자에게는 확실한 보상이 있으리로다. 18. The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.
19. 의가 생명에 이르는 것 같이 악을 따르는 자는 그것을 따르다가 스스로 사망에 이르느니라. 19. As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.
20. 비뚤어진 마음을 가진 자들은 {주}께 가증한 자들이나 자기 길에서 곧바른 자들은 그분께서 기뻐하시는 자들이니라. 20. They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
21. 사악한 자는 손에 손을 잡을지라도 벌을 면하지 못할 터이나 의로운 자의 씨는 구출되리라. 21. Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
22. 아름다운 여자가 분별이 없는 것은 돼지 코의 금 보석 같으니라. 22. As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
23. 의로운 자의 소원은 오직 선할 뿐이나 사악한 자의 기대하는 바는 진노이니라. 23. The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
24. 흩을지라도 여전히 불어나는 일이 있고 지나치게 아낄지라도 가난에 이르는 일이 있느니라. 24. There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
25. 후하게 주는 혼은 기름지게 되며 물을 대는 자는 자기도 물을 받으리라. 25. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
26. 곡식을 움켜쥐는 자는 백성이 저주할 터이나 곡식을 파는 자의 머리에는 복이 있으리라. 26. He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
27. 부지런히 선을 구하는 자는 호의를 얻으려니와 해악을 구하는 자에게는 해악이 임하리라. 27. He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.
28. 자기 재물을 신뢰하는 자는 넘어지려니와 의로운 자는 나뭇가지처럼 번성하리라. 28. He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.
29. 자기 집을 어지럽히는 자는 바람을 상속하며 어리석은 자는 마음이 지혜로운 자의 종이 되리라. 29. He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.
30. 의로운 자의 열매는 생명나무니 혼들을 얻는 자는 지혜로우니라. 30. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
31. 보라, 의로운 자는 땅에서 보응을 받을 것이요, 사악한 자와 죄인은 더욱 더 받으리로다. 31. Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
1. 누구든지 훈계를 사랑하는 자는 지식을 사랑하거니와 책망을 싫어하는 자는 짐승과 같으니라. 1. Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2. 선한 사람은 {주}의 호의를 얻으려니와 사악한 꾀를 부리는 사람은 그분께서 정죄하시리라. 2. A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
3. 사람이 사악함을 힘입어서는 굳게 서지 못하려니와 의로운 자의 뿌리는 흔들리지 아니하리로다. 3. A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4. 현숙한 여인은 자기 남편의 화관이거니와 부끄럽게 하는 여인은 그의 뼈 속의 썩은 것과 같으니라. 4. A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
5. 의로운 자들의 생각들은 올바르나 사악한 자들의 계략들은 속임수이니라. 5. The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6. 사악한 자들의 말들은 숨어 기다리며 피를 흘리는 것이로되 곧바른 자들의 입은 그들을 건지리로다. 6. The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
7. 사악한 자들은 쓰러져서 있지 아니하나 의로운 자의 집은 서리로다. 7. The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
8. 사람은 자기 지혜대로 칭찬을 받으려니와 마음이 비뚤어진 자는 멸시를 받으리라. 8. A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
9. 멸시를 받을지라도 종을 거느리는 자는 자기를 높이고도 빵이 부족한 자보다 나으니라. 9. He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
10. 의로운 사람은 자기 짐승의 생명을 중히 여기나 사악한 자의 친절한 긍휼은 잔인하니라. 10. A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11. 자기 땅을 가는 자는 빵으로 만족을 얻으려니와 허탄한 자들을 따르는 자는 명철이 없느니라. 11. He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
12. 사악한 자는 악인들의 그물을 원하나 의로운 자의 뿌리는 열매를 내느니라. 12. The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
13. 사악한 자는 자기 입술의 범법으로 말미암아 올무에 걸리나 의인은 고난에서 벗어나리로다. 13. The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
14. 사람은 자기 입의 열매로 말미암아 좋은 것으로 만족을 얻을 것이요, 사람의 손의 보답이 그에게 돌아가리라. 14. A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
15. 어리석은 자의 길은 그의 눈에 옳으나 권고에 귀를 기울이는 자는 지혜로우니라. 15. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16. 어리석은 자의 진노는 즉시 알려지거니와 분별 있는 자는 수치를 덮느니라. 16. A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
17. 진리를 말하는 자는 의를 나타내거니와 거짓 증인은 속임수를 나타내느니라. 17. He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
18. 칼로 찌르듯이 말하는 자가 있거니와 지혜로운 자의 혀는 건강하게 하느니라. 18. There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
19. 진리의 입술은 영원토록 굳게 세워지려니와 거짓말하는 혀는 잠시 있을 뿐이니라. 19. The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20. 악을 꾀하는 자들의 마음에는 속임이 있으나 화평을 꾀하는 자들에게는 기쁨이 있느니라. 20. Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21. 의인에게는 어떤 재앙도 일어나지 아니하려니와 사악한 자에게는 해악이 가득하리라. 21. There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
22. 거짓말하는 입술은 {주}께 가증한 것이나 진실하게 행하는 자들은 그분께서 기뻐하시는 자들이니라. 22. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
23. 분별 있는 자는 지식을 감추거니와 어리석은 자들의 마음은 어리석음을 선포하느니라. 23. A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
24. 부지런한 자의 손은 다스릴 것이나 게으른 자는 공세를 바치리라. 24. The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
25. 사람의 마음속 근심은 마음을 웅크리게 하나 선한 말은 마음을 기쁘게 하느니라. 25. Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
26. 의로운 자는 자기 이웃보다 더 뛰어나거니와 사악한 자의 길은 그들을 유혹하느니라. 26. The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
27. 게으른 사람은 자기가 사냥해서 잡은 것도 굽지 아니하거니와 부지런한 사람의 재산은 귀중하니라. 27. The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
28. 의의 길에는 생명이 있나니 그것의 행로에는 사망이 없느니라. 28. In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
1. 지혜로운 아들은 자기 아버지의 훈계를 들으나 비웃는 자는 책망을 귀담아 듣지 아니하느니라. 1. A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
2. 사람은 자기 입의 열매로 말미암아 선을 먹으려니와 범법자들의 혼은 폭력을 먹으리라. 2. A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
3. 자기 입을 지키는 자는 자기 생명을 보호하나 자기 입술을 크게 벌리는 자에게는 멸망이 있으리로다. 3. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
4. 게으른 자의 혼은 원하여도 아무것도 소유하지 못하나 부지런한 자의 혼은 기름지게 되리로다. 4. The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5. 의로운 자는 거짓말을 미워하나 사악한 자는 역겨우며 수치에 이르느니라. 5. A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6. 의는 길이 곧바른 자를 보호하나 사악함은 죄인을 뒤엎느니라. 6. Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
7. 스스로 부한 체하여도 아무것도 없는 자가 있고 스스로 가난한 체하여도 재물이 많은 자가 있느니라. 7. There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
8. 사람의 생명의 대속물은 그의 재물이지만 가난한 자는 책망을 귀담아 듣지 아니하느니라. 8. The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.
9. 의로운 자의 빛은 기뻐하나 사악한 자의 등불은 꺼지리라. 9. The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
10. 오직 교만에 의해서 다툼이 생기나 좋은 충고를 받은 자에게는 지혜가 있느니라. 10. Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
11. 헛되이 얻은 재물은 줄어들려니와 수고하여 모으는 자는 재물을 늘리리라. 11. Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
12. 소망이 늦추어지면 마음을 병들게 하거니와 소원이 이르면 그것은 생명나무니라. 12. Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
13. 누구든지 말씀을 멸시하는 자는 멸망하려니와 명령을 두려워하는 자는 보상을 받으리라. 13. Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14. 지혜로운 자의 법은 사망의 올무들에서 벗어나게 하는 생명 샘이니라. 14. The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15. 선한 명철은 호의를 베푸나 범법자들의 길은 험하니라. 15. Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
16. 분별 있는 자마다 지식을 가지고 행하거니와 어리석은 자는 자기의 어리석은 짓을 드러내느니라. 16. Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
17. 사악한 사자(使者)는 해악에 빠져도 신실한 대사는 건강하게 하느니라. 17. A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
18. 훈계를 거절하는 자에게는 가난과 수치가 있으려니와 책망을 중히 여기는 자는 존경을 받으리라. 18. Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
19. 혼에게는 성취된 소원이 달거니와 어리석은 자들에게는 악에서 떠나는 것이 가증한 것이니라. 19. The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20. 지혜로운 자들과 함께 걷는 자는 지혜로우려니와 어리석은 자들의 벗이 되는 자는 멸망을 당하리라. 20. He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
21. 재앙은 죄인들의 뒤를 따르거니와 의로운 자들은 좋은 것으로 보답을 받으리라. 21. Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
22. 선한 사람은 자기 자손의 자손에게 상속 재산을 남기거니와 죄인의 재물은 의인을 위해 쌓이느니라. 22. A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
23. 가난한 자가 경작하는 곳에는 먹을 것이 많거니와 판단이 부족하여 멸망하는 일도 있느니라. 23. Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.
24. 회초리를 아끼는 자는 자기 아들을 미워하거니와 그를 사랑하는 자는 어릴 때에 그를 징계하느니라. 24. He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
25. 의로운 자는 자기 혼이 만족하도록 먹으나 사악한 자의 배는 주리리로다. 25. The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
1. 지혜로운 여자는 다 자기 집을 세우되 어리석은 여자는 자기 손으로 그것을 허무느니라. 1. Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
2. 자기의 곧바름 속에서 걷는 자는 {주}를 두려워하나 자기 길들이 비뚤어진 자는 그분을 멸시하느니라. 2. He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
3. 어리석은 자의 입에는 교만의 막대기가 있으나 지혜로운 자들의 입술은 그들을 보존하리로다. 3. In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
4. 소들이 없는 곳에는 구유가 깨끗하나 소의 힘으로 많은 소출을 얻느니라. 4. Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5. 신실한 증인은 거짓말을 하지 아니하나 거짓 증인은 거짓말을 하리로다. 5. A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
6. 비웃는 자는 지혜를 구하여도 얻지 못하거니와 지식은 깨닫는 자에게 쉬우니라. 6. A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
7. 네가 어리석은 자에게 지식의 입술이 있음을 보지 못하거든 그의 앞에서 떠날지니라. 7. Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
8. 분별 있는 자의 지혜는 그의 길을 깨닫는 것이나 어리석은 자들의 어리석음은 속이는 것이니라. 8. The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
9. 어리석은 자들은 죄를 조롱하나 호의는 의로운 자들 가운데 있느니라. 9. Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
10. 마음이 마음의 쓰라림을 알며 낯선 자는 마음의 기쁨과 상관하지 못하느니라. 10. The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
11. 사악한 자의 집은 뒤엎어지려니와 곧바른 자의 장막은 흥왕하리라. 11. The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
12. 어떤 길은 사람이 보기에 옳으나 그것의 끝은 사망의 길들이니라. 12. There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
13. 심지어 웃을 때에도 마음에 슬픔이 있고 그 희락의 끝은 근심이니라. 13. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
14. 마음이 타락한 자는 자기 자신의 길들로 채워지려니와 선한 사람은 자신으로부터 만족을 얻으리라. 14. The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
15. 단순한 자는 모든 말을 믿으나 분별 있는 자는 자기의 가는 것을 잘 살피느니라. 15. The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
16. 지혜로운 자는 두려워하여 악을 떠나거니와 어리석은 자는 격노하며 자만하느니라. 16. A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
17. 급히 노하는 자는 어리석게 행하며 사악한 꾀들을 꾸미는 자는 미움을 받느니라. 17. He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
18. 단순한 자는 어리석음을 상속하거니와 분별 있는 자는 지식으로 관을 쓰느니라. 18. The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19. 악한 자들은 선한 자들 앞에서 절하고 사악한 자들은 의로운 자들의 문들에서 절하느니라. 19. The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20. 가난한 자는 자기 이웃에게도 미움을 받으나 부유한 자는 친구가 많으니라. 20. The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
21. 자기 이웃을 멸시하는 자는 죄를 짓되 가난한 자에게 긍휼을 베푸는 자는 행복하니라. 21. He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
22. 악을 꾀하는 자들은 잘못하지 아니하느냐? 그러나 선을 꾀하는 자들에게는 긍휼과 진리가 있으리로다. 22. Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
23. 모든 수고에는 유익이 있어도 입술의 말은 빈곤에 이를 뿐이니라. 23. In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
24. 지혜로운 자들의 왕관은 그들의 재물이나 어리석은 자들의 어리석음은 어리석은 짓이니라. 24. The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
25. 진실한 증인은 혼들을 건지거니와 속이는 증인은 거짓말을 하느니라. 25. A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
26. {주}의 두려움 속에 강한 확신이 있나니 그분의 자녀들에게는 피난처가 있으리라. 26. In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
27. {주}를 두려워하는 것은 생명 샘이라 사망의 올무들에서 벗어나게 하느니라. 27. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
28. 백성이 많은 것은 왕의 영예이나 백성이 적은 것은 통치자의 멸망이니라. 28. In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
29. 진노하기를 더디 하는 자는 큰 명철이 있으나 영이 조급한 자는 어리석음을 높이느니라. 29. He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
30. 건전한 마음은 육체의 생명이나 시기는 뼈를 썩게 하는 것이니라. 30. A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
31. 가난한 사람을 학대하는 자는 그를 [만드신 분]을 모욕하되 그분을 공경하는 자는 가난한 사람에게 긍휼을 베푸느니라. 31. He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
32. 사악한 자는 자기의 사악함 가운데서 쫓겨나거니와 의로운 자는 자기의 죽음 가운데서도 소망을 갖느니라. 32. The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
33. 지혜는 명철이 있는 자의 마음에 머물거니와 어리석은 자들의 중심에 있는 것은 알려지느니라. 33. Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
34. 의는 한 민족을 높이거니와 죄는 어느 백성에게나 수치거리가 되느니라. 34. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
35. 왕의 호의는 지혜로운 종을 향하거니와 그의 진노는 수치를 끼치는 자를 향하느니라. 35. The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
1. 부드러운 대답은 진노를 돌이키거니와 가혹한 말들은 분노를 일으키느니라. 1. A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2. 지혜로운 자의 혀는 지식을 바르게 사용하되 어리석은 자들의 입은 어리석음을 쏟아 내느니라. 2. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
3. {주}의 눈은 모든 곳에 있어서 악한 자와 선한 자를 살피느니라. 3. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4. 건전한 혀는 생명나무이나 그 안의 비뚤어진 것은 영 안의 갈라진 틈이니라. 4. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.
5. 어리석은 자는 자기 아버지의 훈계를 멸시하거니와 책망을 중히 여기는 자는 분별이 있느니라. 5. A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6. 의로운 자의 집에는 많은 보물이 있어도 사악한 자의 소득에는 괴로움이 있느니라. 6. In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7. 지혜로운 자의 입술은 지식을 퍼뜨리나 어리석은 자의 마음은 그리하지 아니하느니라. 7. The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8. 사악한 자의 희생물은 {주}께 가증한 것이나 곧바른 자의 기도는 그분께서 기뻐하시는 것이니라. 8. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9. 사악한 자의 길은 {주}께 가증한 것이나 의를 따라가는 자는 그분께서 사랑하시느니라. 9. The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10. 길을 버리는 자에게는 바로잡는 일이 괴로우며 책망을 싫어하는 자는 죽으리라. 10. Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
11. 지옥과 멸망도 {주} 앞에 있거늘 하물며 사람들의 자녀들의 마음은 얼마나 더 그러하리요? 11. Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
12. 비웃는 자는 자기를 책망하는 자를 사랑하지 아니하며 지혜로운 자에게 가려 하지도 아니하리로다. 12. A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
13. 즐거운 마음은 얼굴을 기쁘게 하나 마음의 슬픔은 영을 상하게 하느니라. 13. A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14. 명철이 있는 자의 마음은 지식을 구하거니와 어리석은 자들의 입은 어리석음을 먹고 사느니라. 14. The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15. 고난 받는 자의 모든 날은 악하거니와 마음이 즐거운 자는 계속해서 잔치하느니라. 15. All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16. 적게 가지고도 {주}를 두려워하는 것이 많은 재산을 가지고 그것으로 인해 괴로워하는 것보다 나으니라. 16. Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17. 채소를 먹으면서도 사랑이 있는 것이 외양간의 소를 먹으면서 그것과 함께 미워하는 것보다 나으니라. 17. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18. 몹시 노하는 자는 다툼을 일으켜도 분노하기를 더디 하는 자는 다툼을 그치게 하느니라. 18. A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19. 게으른 자의 길은 가시나무 울타리 같으나 의로운 자의 길은 평탄하게 되느니라. 19. The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
20. 지혜로운 아들은 아버지를 즐겁게 하나 어리석은 자는 자기 어머니를 멸시하느니라. 20. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21. 지혜가 없는 자에게는 어리석음이 기쁨이 되거니와 명철한 자는 곧바르게 걷느니라. 21. Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22. 조언이 없으면 계획들이 실패하되 조언자가 많으면 그것들이 굳게 서느니라. 22. Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23. 사람은 자기 입의 대답으로 기쁨을 누리나니 때에 맞게 한 말이 얼마나 좋은가! 23. A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
24. 지혜로운 자에게는 생명의 길이 위에 있으므로 그는 아래에 있는 지옥에서 떠나느니라. 24. The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
25. {주}께서 교만한 자의 집은 허무시되 과부의 땅의 경계는 굳게 세우시리로다. 25. The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26. 사악한 자의 생각들은 {주}께 가증한 것이나 순수한 자의 말들은 즐거운 말들이니라. 26. The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
27. 이익을 탐하는 자는 자기 집을 괴롭게 하나 뇌물을 미워하는 자는 살리로다. 27. He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28. 의로운 자의 마음은 대답을 하려고 연구하거니와 사악한 자의 입은 악한 것들을 쏟아 내느니라. 28. The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29. {주}께서 사악한 자는 멀리하시되 의로운 자의 기도는 들으시느니라. 29. The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30. 눈의 빛은 마음을 기쁘게 하며 좋은 소식은 뼈를 기름지게 하느니라. 30. The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
31. 생명의 책망을 귀담아 듣는 귀는 지혜로운 자들 가운데 거하느니라. 31. The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32. 훈계를 거절하는 자는 자기 혼을 멸시하나 책망을 귀담아 듣는 자는 명철을 얻느니라. 32. He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33. {주}를 두려워하는 것이 지혜의 훈계이니 명예에 앞서 겸손이 있느니라. 33. The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
1. 사람이 마음으로 예비하는 것과 혀로 대답하는 것은 {주}로부터 오느니라. 1. The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.
2. 사람의 모든 길이 그의 눈에는 깨끗하나 {주}께서는 영들을 달아 보시느니라. 2. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
3. 네 일들을 {주}께 맡기라. 그리하면 네가 생각하는 것들이 굳게 세워지리라. 3. Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4. {주}께서는 자신을 위하여 모든 것을 만드셨나니 참으로 사악한 자도 악한 날을 위하여 만드셨느니라. 4. The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5. 마음이 교만한 자는 다 {주}께 가증한 자니 손에 손을 잡을지라도 그는 벌을 면하지 못하리라. 5. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6. 긍휼과 진리로 말미암아 불법이 정결하게 되며 {주}를 두려워함으로 말미암아 사람들이 악을 떠나느니라. 6. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
7. 사람의 길들이 {주}를 기쁘게 하면 그분께서 그의 원수들까지도 그와 화목하게 하시느니라. 7. When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8. 적게 가지고도 의가 있는 것이 많은 소득을 가지고도 올바름이 없는 것보다 나으니라. 8. Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
9. 사람의 마음이 그의 길을 계획할지라도 {주}께서 그의 걸음을 인도하시느니라. 9. A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
10. 하나님의 판결이 왕의 입술에 있은즉 재판할 때에 그의 입이 죄를 짓지 아니하느니라. 10. A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11. 공정한 추와 저울은 {주}의 것이요, 주머니 속의 모든 추도 그분께서 지으신 것이니라. 11. A just weight and balance are the LORD'S: all the weights of the bag are his work.
12. 사악한 짓을 행하는 것은 왕들에게 가증한 것이니 왕좌는 의로 말미암아 굳게 서느니라. 12. It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.
13. 의로운 입술은 왕들이 기뻐하는 것이니 그들은 바르게 말하는 자를 사랑하느니라. 13. Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.
14. 왕의 진노는 죽음의 사자들과 같아도 지혜로운 자는 그것을 가라앉히리로다. 14. The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.
15. 왕의 얼굴빛에는 생명이 있나니 그의 호의는 늦은 비를 내리는 구름 같으니라. 15. In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.
16. 지혜를 얻는 것이 금을 얻는 것보다 얼마나 더 나은가! 명철을 얻는 것이 오히려 은을 택하는 것보다 더 낫도다! 16. How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
17. 곧바른 자의 큰길은 악을 떠나는 것이니 자기 길을 지키는 자는 자기 혼을 보존하느니라. 17. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
18. 멸망에 앞서 교만이 나가며 넘어짐에 앞서 거만한 영이 있느니라. 18. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19. 자기를 낮추는 자와 함께 겸손한 영을 갖는 것이 교만한 자와 함께 노략물을 나누는 것보다 나으니라. 19. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.
20. 문제를 지혜롭게 다루는 자는 좋은 것을 얻으리니 누구든지 {주}를 신뢰하는 자는 행복하니라. 20. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.
21. 마음이 지혜로운 자는 분별 있는 자라 불릴 것이며 달콤한 입술은 학식을 더하느니라. 21. The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22. 명철이 있는 자에게는 그것이 생명의 원천이 되거니와 어리석은 자들의 훈계는 어리석은 짓이니라. 22. Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
23. 지혜로운 자의 마음은 그의 입을 가르치며 그의 입술에 학식을 더하느니라. 23. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.
24. 즐거운 말들은 벌집 같아서 혼에게 달고 뼈에 건강을 주느니라. 24. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
25. 어떤 길은 사람이 보기에 옳으나 그것의 끝은 사망의 길들이니라. 25. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
26. 수고하는 자는 자기를 위하여 수고하나니 그의 입이 그것을 그에게 요구하느니라. 26. He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.
27. 경건치 아니한 자는 악을 캐내나니 그의 입술에는 타오르는 불 같은 것이 있느니라. 27. An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
28. 비뚤어진 자는 다툼을 뿌리며 수군거리는 자는 중요한 친구들을 갈라놓느니라. 28. A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
29. 난폭한 사람은 자기 이웃을 꾀어 좋지 않은 길로 인도하나니 29. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.
30. 그는 비뚤어진 일들을 꾀하려고 자기 눈을 감으며 자기 입술을 움직여 악을 이루느니라. 30. He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.
31. 흰머리를 의의 길에서 얻으면 그것은 영광의 관이 되느니라. 31. The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
32. 분노하기를 더디 하는 자는 용사보다 낫고 자기 영을 다스리는 자는 도시를 취하는 자보다 나으니라. 32. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
33. 제비는 겹친 옷자락 속에서 사람이 뽑으나 그것의 모든 배분은 {주}께서 하시느니라. 33. The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.
1. 마른 빵 한 조각만 가지고도 평안한 것이 희생물이 집에 가득한 채 다투는 것보다 나으니라. 1. Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
2. 지혜로운 종은 수치를 끼치는 아들을 다스리고 또 형제들 가운데서 상속 재산의 몫을 받으리라. 2. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3. 도가니는 은을, 용광로는 금을 제련하거니와 {주}께서는 마음을 단련하시느니라. 3. The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
4. 사악하게 행하는 자는 거짓 입술에 주의를 기울이며 거짓말쟁이는 버릇없는 혀에 귀를 기울이느니라. 4. A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
5. 누구든지 가난한 자를 조롱하는 자는 그를 [만드신 분]을 모욕하나니 재앙들을 즐거워하는 자는 벌을 면하지 못하리라. 5. Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
6. 자식들의 자식들은 노인들의 화관(花冠)이요, 자식들의 영광은 그들의 아버지들이니라. 6. Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
7. 훌륭한 말을 하는 것은 어리석은 자에게 합당하지 아니하며 거짓말하는 입술은 통치자에게 더더욱 합당하지 아니하니라. 7. Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8. 선물은 그것을 가진 자의 눈에 보석 같은즉 그것이 어디로 향하든지 형통하게 하느니라. 8. A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9. 범법을 덮어 주는 자는 사랑을 구하거니와 문제를 거듭 말하는 자는 친한 친구들을 갈라놓느니라. 9. He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
10. 지혜로운 자를 한 번 책망하는 것이 어리석은 자를 백 번 채찍질하는 것보다 더 깊이 박히느니라. 10. A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
11. 악한 자는 반역만 구하나니 그러므로 그를 치려고 그분께서 잔인한 사자를 보내시리라. 11. An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12. 사람이 어리석은 짓을 행하는 어리석은 자를 만나느니 차라리 새끼들을 빼앗긴 암곰을 만날지니라. 12. Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13. 누구든지 선을 악으로 갚으면 악이 그의 집을 떠나지 아니하리라. 13. Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14. 다툼의 시작은 사람이 물을 엎지르는 것과 같으니 그러므로 싸움에 말려들기 전에 그것을 그칠지니라. 14. The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
15. 사악한 자를 의롭다 하는 자와 의인을 정죄하는 자는 둘 다 {주}께 가증한 자니라. 15. He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.
16. 어리석은 자는 지혜에 마음을 두지 아니하거늘 그가 어찌하여 손에 값을 가지고 지혜를 구하려 하느냐? 16. Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?
17. 친구는 언제나 사랑하며 형제는 어려운 때를 위하여 태어났느니라. 17. A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18. 명철이 없는 자는 손을 마주쳐 서약하며 자기 친구의 앞에서 보증인이 되느니라. 18. A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
19. 다툼을 사랑하는 자는 범법을 사랑하며 자기 문을 높이는 자는 파멸을 구하느니라. 19. He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20. 비뚤어진 마음을 가진 자는 좋은 것을 얻지 못하며 뒤틀린 혀를 가진 자는 해악에 빠지느니라. 20. He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
21. 어리석은 자를 낳는 자는 그 일로 말미암아 슬픔을 당하나니 어리석은 자의 아버지는 기쁨이 없느니라. 21. He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22. 즐거운 마음은 약같이 좋으나 상한 영은 뼈를 말리느니라. 22. A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23. 사악한 자는 재판의 길들을 굽게 하려고 품에서 뇌물을 취하느니라. 23. A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24. 지혜는 명철이 있는 자 앞에 있으나 어리석은 자의 눈은 땅 끝에 있느니라. 24. Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
25. 어리석은 아들은 그의 아버지에게 근심이 되며 그를 낳은 여인에게 쓰라림이 되느니라. 25. A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
26. 또한 의인을 벌하는 것이나 공평하다고 통치자들을 때리는 것은 선하지 아니하니라. 26. Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.
27. 지식이 있는 자는 말들을 아끼며 명철한 자는 뛰어난 영을 지녔느니라. 27. He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28. 어리석은 자라도 잠잠하면 지혜로운 자로 여겨지고 자기 입술을 닫는 자는 명철한 자로 여겨지느니라. 28. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
1. 어떤 사람은 소원으로 말미암아 자신을 분리하고 모든 지혜를 구하며 그것과 상관하느니라. 1. Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2. 어리석은 자는 명철을 기뻐하지 아니하며 자기 마음을 드러내기를 기뻐하느니라. 2. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3. 사악한 자가 이를 때에는 멸시도 오며 부끄러운 것과 함께 치욕도 오느니라. 3. When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4. 사람의 입의 말들은 깊은 물과 같고 지혜의 원천은 흐르는 시내와 같으니라. 4. The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
5. 재판에서 사악한 자의 외모를 받아들이고 의로운 자를 거꾸러뜨리는 것은 선하지 아니하니라. 5. It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6. 어리석은 자의 입술은 다툼 속으로 들어가고 그의 입은 매를 불러들이느니라. 6. A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7. 어리석은 자의 입은 그의 멸망이 되며 그의 입술은 그의 혼의 올무가 되느니라. 7. A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8. 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자의 말들은 상처들과 같아서 배 속의 가장 안쪽 부분들로 내려가느니라. 8. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9. 자기 일을 게을리 하는 자는 또한 크게 탕진하는 자와 형제니라. 9. He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10. {주}의 이름은 견고한 망대니 의로운 자는 거기로 달려가 안전을 얻느니라. 10. The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11. 부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 도시니 그의 생각에 높은 성벽 같으니라. 11. The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12. 멸망에 앞서 사람의 마음의 거만이 있고 명예에 앞서 겸손이 있느니라. 12. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
13. 문제를 듣기도 전에 대답하는 자에게는 그것이 어리석음이요, 수치니라. 13. He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
14. 사람의 영이 그의 병약함을 지탱하려니와 상처 입은 영은 누가 감당하리요? 14. The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15. 분별 있는 자의 마음은 지식을 얻고 지혜로운 자의 귀는 지식을 구하느니라. 15. The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16. 사람의 선물은 그를 위해 길을 내며 또 위대한 자들 앞으로 그를 인도하느니라. 16. A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17. 자기 사정을 먼저 말하는 자가 옳은 것 같으나 그의 이웃이 와서 그를 자세히 살피느니라. 17. He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18. 제비뽑는 것은 다툼을 그치게 하며 힘센 자들 사이에서 나누느니라. 18. The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19. 실족한 형제는 견고한 도시보다 얻기 어려운즉 그들의 다툼은 성채의 빗장과 같으니라. 19. A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20. 사람의 배는 그의 입의 열매로 만족되며 그는 자기 입술의 소산으로 충족되리라. 20. A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21. 사망과 생명이 혀의 권능 안에 있나니 혀를 사랑하는 자들은 그것의 열매를 먹으리라. 21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22. 누구든지 아내를 얻는 자는 좋은 것을 얻고 {주}의 호의를 얻느니라. 22. Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23. 가난한 자는 간청하는 말을 사용하나 부자는 거칠게 대답하느니라. 23. The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24. 여러 친구를 두는 자는 반드시 자신을 다정한 자로 보여야 하나니 형제보다 더 친밀한 친구도 있느니라. 24. A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
1. 가난해도 순전함 가운데 걷는 자는 입술이 비뚤어지고 어리석은 자보다 나으니라. 1. Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2. 또한 혼에게 지식이 없으면 그것은 선하지 아니하며 발이 급한 사람은 죄를 짓느니라. 2. Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3. 사람의 어리석음이 그의 길을 굽게 하고는 그의 마음이 {주}를 향해 안달하느니라. 3. The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
4. 재물은 많은 친구를 만드나 가난한 자는 자기 이웃으로부터 격리되느니라. 4. Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
5. 거짓 증인은 벌을 면하지 못하며 거짓말하는 자는 피하지 못하리라. 5. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6. 많은 사람이 통치자의 호의를 간청할 것이요, 선물을 주는 자에게는 모든 사람이 친구가 되느니라. 6. Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
7. 가난한 자는 그의 모든 형제들도 미워하거늘 하물며 그의 친구들이야 얼마나 더 그를 멀리하겠느냐? 그가 많은 말로 그들을 따라갈지라도 그들은 그에게서 떠나가느니라. 7. All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
8. 지혜를 얻는 자는 자기 혼을 사랑하나니 명철을 지키는 자는 좋은 것을 얻으리라. 8. He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9. 거짓 증인은 벌을 면하지 못할 것이요, 거짓말하는 자는 망하리라. 9. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10. 즐거움은 어리석은 자에게 어울리지 아니하며 종이 통치자들을 다스리는 것은 훨씬 더 어울리지 아니하느니라. 10. Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11. 사람의 신중함이 그의 분노를 늦추며 범법을 간과하는 것이 그의 영광이니라. 11. The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12. 왕의 진노는 사자의 울부짖음 같거니와 그의 호의는 풀 위의 이슬 같으니라. 12. The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13. 어리석은 아들은 그의 아버지의 재앙이요, 아내의 말다툼은 계속해서 떨어지는 물방울이니라. 13. A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14. 집과 재물은 조상들에게서 상속받거니와 분별 있는 아내는 {주}로부터 오느니라. 14. House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15. 게으름은 깊은 잠에 빠지게 하나니 빈둥거리는 혼은 굶주림을 당하리로다. 15. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16. 명령을 지키는 자는 자기 혼을 지키거니와 그분의 길들을 멸시하는 자는 죽으리라. 16. He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17. 가난한 자를 불쌍히 여기는 자는 {주}께 빌려 드리나니 그가 베푼 것을 그분께서 그에게 다시 갚아 주시리라. 17. He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
18. 소망이 있을 동안에 네 아들을 징계하되 그가 운다고 네 혼이 아끼지 말지니라. 18. Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
19. 크게 진노하는 자는 벌을 받으리니 네가 그를 건질지라도 반드시 또 그 일을 해야 하느니라. 19. A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20. 권고를 들으며 훈계를 받으라. 그리하면 네가 네 마지막 끝에 지혜롭게 되리라. 20. Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21. 사람의 마음에 많은 계획이 있을지라도 {주}의 뜻, 그것만 서리라. 21. There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
22. 사람에게서 바랄 바는 그의 친절함이거니와 가난한 자가 거짓말쟁이보다 나으니라. 22. The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
23. {주}를 두려워함이 생명에 이르게 하나니 그것을 지닌 자는 흡족히 지내고 재앙으로 징벌을 받지 아니하리라. 23. The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24. 게으른 자는 자기 손을 품에 감추고 그것을 다시 자기 입으로 가져가려 하지도 아니하느니라. 24. A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25. 비웃는 자를 때리라. 그리하면 단순한 자가 주의하리라. 명철이 있는 자를 책망하라. 그리하면 그가 지식을 깨달으리라. 25. Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
26. 자기 아버지를 폐물로 만들고 자기 어머니를 쫓아내는 자는 수치를 끼치며 치욕을 가져오는 아들이니라. 26. He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27. 내 아들아, 지식의 말씀들에서 벗어나 잘못하게 하는 훈계 듣기를 그칠지어다. 27. Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28. 경건치 아니한 증인은 판단의 공의를 비웃고 사악한 자의 입은 불법을 삼키느니라. 28. An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29. 심판은 비웃는 자를 위해 예비되어 있으며 채찍은 어리석은 자의 등을 위해 예비되어 있느니라. 29. Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
1. 포도주는 조롱하게 하는 것이요, 독주는 날뛰게 하는 것이라. 누구든지 그것들로 말미암아 속는 자는 지혜롭지 아니하니라. 1. Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
2. 왕의 두려움은 사자의 울부짖음 같으니 누구든지 그의 분노를 일으키는 자는 자기 혼을 대적하여 죄를 짓느니라. 2. The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3. 사람이 다툼을 그치는 것이 존귀가 되거늘 어리석은 자는 다 참견하고자 하느니라. 3. It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4. 게으른 자는 춥다고 밭을 갈지 아니하리니 그러므로 그가 수확 때에 구걸할지라도 아무것도 얻지 못하리라. 4. The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5. 사람의 마음에 있는 계략은 깊은 물 같거니와 명철한 자는 그것을 길어 내리로다. 5. Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6. 대부분의 사람들이 저마다 자기의 선함을 외치려니와 누가 신실한 사람을 찾을 수 있으리요? 6. Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7. 의로운 자는 자기의 순전함 가운데 걷나니 그의 자녀들이 그를 따라 복을 받느니라. 7. The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
8. 심판의 왕좌에 앉은 왕은 자기 눈으로 모든 악을 흩어지게 하느니라. 8. A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9. 누가 이르기를, 내 마음을 깨끗하게 하였으니 내가 죄에서 떠나 순결하다, 할 수 있겠느냐? 9. Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10. 서로 다른 추와 서로 다른 되는 둘 다 {주}께 똑같이 가증한 것이니라. 10. Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
11. 심지어 아이의 경우에도 그가 행한 것들로 그가 한 일이 순수한지 옳은지 알 수 있느니라. 11. Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12. {주}께서 듣는 귀와 보는 눈 그 둘을 다 만드셨느니라. 12. The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
13. 잠을 사랑하지 말라. 네가 가난하게 될까 염려하노라. 네 눈을 뜨라. 그리하면 네가 빵으로 만족하리라. 13. Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14. 사는 자가, 형편없다. 형편없다, 해도 자기 길로 가서는 자랑하느니라. 14. It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15. 금도 있고 루비도 많거니와 지식의 입술은 귀중한 보석이니라. 15. There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16. 낯선 자를 위해 보증을 선 자의 옷을 취하고 낯선 여자를 위해 보증을 선 자에게서 담보물을 취하라. 16. Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
17. 속여서 얻은 빵이 사람에게 달지만 나중에는 그의 입이 자갈로 가득하리라. 17. Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18. 모든 목적한 바가 의논함으로 굳게 세워지나니 좋은 충고를 가지고 전쟁할지니라. 18. Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
19. 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자처럼 두루 다니는 자는 은밀한 일들을 드러내나니 그런즉 입술로 아첨하는 자와 상관하지 말지니라. 19. He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
20. 누구든지 자기 아버지나 어머니를 저주하면 그 사람의 등불은 깜깜한 어둠 속에서 꺼지리라. 20. Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
21. 처음에 서둘러서 상속 재산을 받을 수 있으나 그것의 끝은 복되지 아니하리로다. 21. An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
22. 너는 말하기를, 내가 악을 갚겠다, 하지 말고 오직 {주}를 바라라. 그분께서 너를 구원하시리라. 22. Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
23. 서로 다른 추는 {주}께 가증한 것이요, 거짓된 저울은 좋지 못한 것이니라. 23. Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
24. 사람이 가는 것은 {주}에게서 나오나니 그런즉 사람이 어찌 자기 길을 깨달을 수 있으리요? 24. Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
25. 거룩한 것을 삼키는 자에게는 서원을 한 뒤에 물어보는 것이 올무가 되느니라. 25. It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.
26. 지혜로운 왕은 사악한 자들을 흩으며 그들 위로 바퀴를 가져오느니라. 26. A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27. 사람의 영은 {주}의 등잔불로서 배 속의 모든 부분을 살피느니라. 27. The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
28. 긍휼과 진리가 왕을 보존하며 그의 왕좌는 긍휼로 떠받쳐지느니라. 28. Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
29. 젊은 자들의 영광은 그들의 힘이요, 늙은 자들의 아름다움은 흰머리니라. 29. The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30. 파랗게 멍든 상처는 악을 깨끗이 없애나니 이와 같이 채찍도 배 속의 여러 부분을 깨끗하게 하느니라. 30. The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
1. 왕의 마음이 물 있는 강들과 같이 {주}의 손 안에 있나니 그분께서 친히 원하시는 곳으로 그것을 돌리시느니라. 1. The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
2. 사람의 모든 길이 그의 눈에는 옳게 보여도 {주}께서는 마음을 살피시느니라. 2. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
3. 정의와 판단의 공의를 행하는 것이 희생물보다 더 {주}께서 받으실 만하니라. 3. To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4. 거만한 눈빛과 교만한 마음과 사악한 자의 쟁기질은 죄니라. 4. An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
5. 부지런한 자들의 생각들은 오직 풍족함으로 이끌거니와 조급한 모든 자의 생각들은 궁핍함으로 이끌 뿐이니라. 5. The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
6. 거짓말하는 혀로 보물을 얻는 것은 죽음을 구하는 자들이 이리저리 내던지는 헛된 것이니라. 6. The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
7. 사악한 자들의 강탈이 그들을 멸망시키리니 그들은 판단의 공의 행하기를 거절하느니라. 7. The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
8. 사람의 길은 비뚤어지고 낯설거니와 순수한 자로 말하건대 그의 일은 옳으니라. 8. The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.
9. 다투는 여자와 함께 넓은 집에서 사는 것보다 지붕 모퉁이에서 사는 것이 나으니라. 9. It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
10. 사악한 자의 혼은 재앙을 바라므로 그의 이웃이 그의 눈에 호의를 입지 못하느니라. 10. The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
11. 비웃는 자가 벌을 받으면 단순한 자가 지혜롭게 되며 지혜로운 자가 훈계를 받으면 지식을 받느니라. 11. When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
12. 의로운 사람은 지혜롭게 사악한 자의 집을 깊이 살피거니와 하나님은 사악한 자들의 사악함으로 인하여 그들을 뒤엎으시느니라. 12. The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
13. 누구든지 가난한 자의 부르짖음에 귀를 막으면 그가 직접 부르짖어도 역시 들어 줄 자가 없으리라. 13. Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
14. 은밀한 선물은 분노를 가라앉히고 품속의 보상은 맹렬한 진노를 가라앉히느니라. 14. A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.
15. 공의를 행하는 것이 의인에게는 기쁨이거니와 불법을 행하는 자들에게는 멸망이 있으리로다. 15. It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
16. 명철의 길에서 벗어나 방황하는 사람은 죽은 자들의 회중 가운데 남으리라. 16. The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
17. 쾌락을 사랑하는 자는 가난한 자가 될 것이요, 포도주와 기름을 사랑하는 자는 부하게 되지 못하리로다. 17. He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
18. 사악한 자는 의로운 자를 위한 대속물이 되고 범법자는 곧바른 자를 위한 대속물이 되리라. 18. The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
19. 다투며 성내는 여자와 함께 사는 것보다 광야에서 사는 것이 나으니라. 19. It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
20. 지혜로운 자의 거처에는 갖기를 바라는 보물과 기름이 있으나 어리석은 자는 그것을 낭비하느니라. 20. There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
21. 의와 긍휼을 따르는 자는 생명과 의와 명예를 얻느니라. 21. He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
22. 지혜로운 자는 용사의 도시에 올라가 그것이 신뢰하는 힘을 무너뜨리느니라. 22. A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
23. 누구든지 자기 입과 혀를 지키는 자는 자기 혼을 지켜 고난들에서 벗어나게 하느니라. 23. Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
24. 교만한 진노 가운데 행하는 자를 가리켜 교만하고 건방져서 비웃는 자라 하느니라. 24. Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
25. 게으른 자의 손은 수고하기를 거부하므로 그의 욕망이 그를 죽이느니라. 25. The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
26. 그는 종일토록 게걸스럽게 탐욕을 부리거니와 의로운 자는 아끼지 아니하고 베푸느니라. 26. He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
27. 사악한 자의 희생물은 가증한 것이거늘 하물며 그가 사악한 생각으로 그것을 가져오면 얼마나 더 가증하겠느냐? 27. The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
28. 거짓 증인은 멸망하려니와 듣는 사람은 확고하게 말하느니라. 28. A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
29. 사악한 자는 자기 얼굴을 굳게 하나 곧바른 자로 말하건대 그는 자기 길을 관리하느니라. 29. A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
30. {주}를 대적할 수 있는 지혜나 명철이나 계략은 없느니라. 30. There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
31. 싸울 날에 대비하여 말을 예비해도 안전은 {주}에게서 오느니라. 31. The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.
1. 많은 재물보다 오히려 좋은 이름을 택할 것이요, 은과 금보다 사랑 많은 호의를 택할 것이니라. 1. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
2. 부유한 자와 가난한 자가 함께 만나거니와 {주}는 그들 모두를 만드신 분이시니라. 2. The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.
3. 분별 있는 자는 재앙을 미리 보고 숨거니와 단순한 자들은 나아가다가 벌을 받느니라. 3. A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4. 겸손함과 {주}를 두려워함으로 말미암아 재물과 명예와 생명이 있느니라. 4. By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.
5. 비뚤어진 자의 길에는 가시와 올무가 있거니와 자기 혼을 지키는 자에게는 그것들이 멀리 있으리로다. 5. Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
6. 아이가 마땅히 가야 할 길로 아이를 훈련시키라. 그리하면 그가 늙어서도 그 길을 떠나지 아니하리라. 6. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
7. 부한 자는 가난한 자를 다스리고 빌리는 자는 빌려 주는 자의 종이 되느니라. 7. The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8. 불법을 뿌리는 자는 헛된 것을 거두리니 그의 분노의 막대기가 쇠하리라. 8. He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
9. 관대한 눈을 가진 자는 복을 받으리니 이는 그가 자기 빵을 가난한 자에게 주기 때문이니라. 9. He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10. 비웃는 자를 쫓아내면 다툼도 나가리니 참으로 싸움과 모욕이 그치리로다. 10. Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
11. 마음의 순수함을 사랑하는 자는 그의 입술의 은혜로 인하여 왕이 그의 친구가 되리로다. 11. He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
12. {주}의 눈은 지식을 보존하거니와 범법자의 말들은 그분께서 뒤엎으시느니라. 12. The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.
13. 게으른 자는 말하기를, 사자가 밖에 있은즉 내가 거리에서 죽임을 당하리라, 하느니라. 13. The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
14. 낯선 여자들의 입은 깊은 구덩이니 {주}께서 몹시 싫어하시는 자는 그 안에 빠지리라. 14. The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
15. 아이의 마음에는 어리석음이 매여 있거니와 바로잡는 회초리가 그것을 몰아내어 그에게서 멀리 떠나게 하리라. 15. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
16. 자기 재물을 늘리려고 가난한 자를 학대하는 자와 또 부자에게 주는 자는 반드시 궁핍하게 되리라. 16. He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17. 네 귀를 기울여 지혜로운 자의 말씀들을 들으며 네 마음을 내 지식에 쏟을지어다. 17. Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
18. 네가 만일 그것들을 네 속에 간직하면 그것은 즐거운 일이니 그것들이 어울려서 네 입술에 꼭 맞게 되리라. 18. For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
19. 내가 너로 하여금 {주}를 신뢰하게 하려 하여 이것을 이 날 네게, 바로 네게 알려 주었느니라. 19. That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20. 내가 계략과 지식에서 심히 뛰어난 것들을 네게 기록함은 20. Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21. 너로 하여금 진리의 말씀들의 확실함을 알게 하며 또 너에게 사람을 보내는 자들에게 진리의 말씀들로 답변하게 하려 함이 아니겠느냐? 21. That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22. 어떤 사람이 가난하다고 해서 그 가난한 자를 강탈하지 말고 또 고난 받는 자를 성문에서 학대하지 말라. 22. Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23. {주}께서 그들의 사정을 변호하시고 그들을 상하게 한 자들의 혼을 상하게 하시리라. 23. For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24. 너는 노를 품는 자와 사귀지 말며 화를 품는 자와 함께 다니지 말지니 24. Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25. 네가 그의 길들을 배워 네 혼을 올무에 빠뜨릴까 염려하노라. 25. Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
26. 너는 손을 마주쳐 서약하는 자나 빚 보증인이 되는 자들 중의 하나와 같이 되지 말라. 26. Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.
27. 만일 네게 갚을 것이 없으면 어찌하여 그가 네 잠자리를 네 밑에서 빼앗아 가겠느냐? 27. If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28. 네 조상들이 세워 놓은 옛 지계표를 옮기지 말라. 28. Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
29. 자기 업무에 부지런한 사람을 네가 보느냐? 그는 왕들 앞에 설 것이요, 천한 자들 앞에 서지 아니하리라. 29. Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
1. 네가 치리자와 함께 앉아 먹게 되거든 네 앞에 무엇이 있는지 부지런히 살펴보고 1. When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:
2. 네가 만일 식욕에 빠진 자이거든 네 목에 칼을 둘지니라. 2. And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
3. 그의 맛있는 음식들은 속이는 음식이니 그것들을 바라지 말라. 3. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
4. 부자가 되려고 수고하지 말고 네 자신의 지혜에서 떠날지어다. 4. Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
5. 네가 존재하지 않는 것에 네 눈을 두려 하느냐? 재물은 반드시 스스로 날개를 내어 독수리같이 하늘을 향해 날아가느니라. 5. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
6. 너는 악한 눈을 가진 자의 빵을 먹지 말고 그의 맛있는 음식을 탐내지 말라. 6. Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:
7. 그가 자기 마음속으로 생각하듯이 실제도 그러한즉 그가 네게, 먹고 마시라, 할지라도 그의 마음은 너와 함께하지 아니하느니라. 7. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
8. 네가 먹은 한 조각 빵도 네가 토하겠고 네 달콤한 말들도 잃으리라. 8. The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
9. 어리석은 자의 귀에 대고 말하지 말라. 그가 네 말들의 지혜를 업신여기리라. 9. Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
10. 오래된 지계표를 옮기지 말고 아버지 없는 자들의 밭에 들어가지 말라. 10. Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
11. 그들의 구속자께서 강하시매 그분께서 너와 함께하며 그들의 사정을 변호하시리라. 11. For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.
12. 네 마음을 훈계에 기울이며 네 귀를 지식의 말씀들에 기울이라. 12. Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
13. 바로잡는 것을 아이에게 금하지 말라. 네가 그를 회초리로 때릴지라도 그가 죽지 아니하리라. 13. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
14. 너는 그를 회초리로 때려서 그의 혼을 지옥에서 건질지니라. 14. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
15. 내 아들아, 만일 네 마음이 지혜로우면 내 마음도 곧 내 마음도 기쁘겠고 15. My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16. 참으로 네 입술이 바른 것들을 말하면 내 속 중심이 기뻐하리라. 16. Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
17. 너는 마음에서 죄인들을 부러워하지 말며 종일토록 {주}를 두려워하라. 17. Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
18. 분명히 끝이 있고 너의 기대하는 바가 끊어지지 아니하리로다. 18. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
19. 내 아들아, 너는 듣고 지혜로운 자가 되어 네 마음을 그 길로 인도할지니라. 19. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
20. 술을 많이 먹는 자들 가운데 있지 말고 떠들며 고기를 먹는 자들 가운데 있지 말라. 20. Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
21. 술주정뱅이나 음식을 탐하는 자는 가난하게 되며 잠자기를 좋아하는 자는 누더기를 입으리로다. 21. For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.
22. 너를 낳은 네 아버지의 말에 귀를 기울이고 네 어머니가 늙을 때에 그녀를 업신여기지 말라. 22. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23. 진리를 사되 팔지는 말며 지혜와 훈계와 명철도 그리할지니라. 23. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24. 의로운 자의 아버지는 크게 기뻐할 것이요, 지혜로운 자식을 낳은 자는 그로 인하여 기쁨을 얻으리니 24. The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25. 네 아버지와 어머니가 즐거워하며 너를 낳은 여인이 기뻐하리로다. 25. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
26. 내 아들아, 네 마음을 내게 주며 네 눈이 내 길들을 지키게 할지니 26. My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
27. 창녀는 깊은 도랑이요, 낯선 여자는 좁은 구덩이이니라. 27. For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28. 또 그녀가 먹이를 노리듯 숨어서 기다리고 사람들 가운데 범법자가 늘어나게 하느니라. 28. She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
29. 재난이 누구에게 있느냐? 슬픔이 누구에게 있느냐? 다툼이 누구에게 있느냐? 재잘거림이 누구에게 있느냐? 까닭 없는 상처가 누구에게 있느냐? 붉은 눈이 누구에게 있느냐? 29. Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30. 오랫동안 포도주에 머무는 자들에게 있고 섞은 포도주를 구하러 다니는 자들에게 있느니라. 30. They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
31. 너는 포도주가 붉거나 잔에서 제 빛깔을 내거나 스스로 똑바로 움직일 때에 그것을 바라보지 말라. 31. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
32. 마침내 그것이 뱀같이 물고 독사같이 쏘나니 32. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
33. 네 눈은 낯선 여자들을 바라볼 것이요, 네 마음은 비뚤어진 일들을 말하리로다. 33. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
34. 참으로 너는 바다 한가운데 누운 자 같으며 돛대 꼭대기에 누운 자 같으리니 34. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
35. 네가 말하기를, 그들이 나를 쳐도 나는 아프지 아니하였고 그들이 나를 때려도 내가 그것을 느끼지 못하였도다. 내가 어느 때나 깰까? 내가 또 여전히 그것을 구하리라, 하리라. 35. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
1. 너는 악한 자들을 보고 부러워하지 말며 그들과 함께하기를 바라지도 말라. 1. Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2. 그들의 마음은 멸망을 연구하고 그들의 입술은 해악을 말하느니라. 2. For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
3. 집은 지혜로 말미암아 건축되고 명철로 말미암아 굳게 세워지며 3. Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4. 또 방들은 지식으로 말미암아 귀하고 아름다운 모든 재물로 채워지리로다. 4. And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5. 지혜로운 자는 강하고 참으로 지식 있는 자는 힘을 늘리나니 5. A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
6. 너는 지혜로운 조언으로 전쟁을 할지니라. 조언자가 많으면 안전하니라. 6. For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
7. 지혜는 너무 높아서 어리석은 자가 감당하지 못하나니 그는 성문에서 자기 입을 열지 못하느니라. 7. Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8. 악을 행하려고 꾀하는 자는 해로운 자라 불리리로다. 8. He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
9. 어리석은 생각은 죄요, 비웃는 자는 사람들에게 가증한 자니라. 9. The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
10. 역경을 당하는 날에 네가 기진하면 네 힘이 적은 것이니라. 10. If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
11. 네가 만일 죽음으로 끌려가는 자들과 죽임 당할 자들을 구출하려 하지 아니하고 11. If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;
12. 말하기를, 보라, 우리는 그것을 알지 못하였노라, 할지라도 마음을 살피시는 이가 그것을 깊이 생각하지 아니하시겠느냐? 또 네 혼을 지키시는 이가 그것을 알지 아니하시겠느냐? 그분께서 각 사람의 행위대로 각 사람에게 보응하지 아니하시겠느냐? 12. If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
13. 내 아들아, 너는 꿀을 먹으라. 그것이 좋으니라. 벌집을 먹으라. 그것이 네 입맛에 다니라. 13. My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
14. 지혜를 아는 것이 네 혼에게 이와 같으리라. 네가 그것을 얻으면 보상이 있겠고 너의 기대하는 바가 끊어지지 아니하리라. 14. So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
15. 오 사악한 자여, 의로운 자의 거처를 치려고 숨어 기다리지 말며 그의 안식하는 처소를 노략하지 말라. 15. Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
16. 의인은 일곱 번 넘어질지라도 다시 일어나려니와 사악한 자는 넘어져서 해악에 빠지리라. 16. For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
17. 네 원수가 넘어질 때에 기뻐하지 말며 그가 걸려 넘어질 때에 마음으로 즐거워하지 말지니 17. Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
18. {주}께서 그것을 보시고 기뻐하지 아니하사 자신의 진노를 그에게서 옮기실까 염려하노라. 18. Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19. 너는 악한 자들로 인하여 초조해하지 말며 사악한 자를 부러워하지 말라. 19. Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked;
20. 악한 자에게는 보상이 없으며 사악한 자의 등잔불은 꺼지리로다. 20. For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
21. 내 아들아, 너는 {주}와 왕을 두려워하고 변하는 데 능숙한 자들과 상관하지 말라. 21. My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
22. 그들의 재앙이 갑자기 생기리니 그들 둘의 멸망을 누가 알겠느냐? 22. For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
23. 이것들도 지혜로운 자에게 속한 것이라. 재판할 때에 사람들의 외모를 중시하는 것은 좋지 못하니라. 23. These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24. 사악한 자에게, 너는 의로운 자라, 하는 자는 백성들이 저주하며 민족들이 몹시 싫어하려니와 24. He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
25. 그를 꾸짖는 자들에게는 기쁨이 있겠고 또 좋은 복이 그들 위에 임하리라. 25. But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26. 모든 사람이 바른 대답을 내는 자의 입술에 입을 맞추리라. 26. Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.
27. 밖에서 네 일을 예비하고 들에서 그 일이 너를 위해 잘 맞도록 만들며 그 뒤에 네 집을 지을지니라. 27. Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
28. 까닭 없이 네 이웃을 치는 증인이 되지 말며 네 입술로 속이지 말라. 28. Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
29. 너는 말하기를, 그가 내게 행한 대로 나도 그에게 행하고 그 사람의 행위대로 그에게 갚으리라, 하지 말라. 29. Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
30. 내가 게으른 자의 밭과 명철이 없는 자의 포도원 곁을 지나갔는데 30. I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31. 보라, 그것이 다 가시덤불로 덮여 있었고 그것의 표면이 쐐기풀로 뒤덮여 있었으며 그것의 돌담이 무너져 있었으므로 31. And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32. 그때에 내가 보고 그것을 매우 깊이 생각해 보았으며 그것을 바라보고 훈계를 받았느니라. 32. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.
33. 좀 더 자자. 좀 더 졸자. 손을 모으고 좀 더 자자, 하면 33. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34. 네 빈궁이 여행자같이, 네 궁핍이 군사같이 이르리로다. 34. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
1. 이것들도 솔로몬의 잠언이요, 유다 왕 히스기야의 사람들이 베껴 쓴 것이니라. 1. These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2. 일을 숨기는 것은 하나님의 영광이나 문제를 찾아내는 것은 왕들의 영예니라. 2. It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
3. 하늘의 높음과 땅의 깊음과 왕들의 마음은 헤아릴 수 없느니라. 3. The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4. 은에서 찌꺼기를 제거하라. 그리하면 정련공을 위한 그릇이 나오리라. 4. Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5. 왕 앞에서 사악한 자를 제거하라. 그리하면 그의 왕좌가 의 안에서 굳게 서리라. 5. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6. 왕 앞에서 스스로 나서지 말며 위대한 자들의 자리에 서지 말라. 6. Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
7. 사람이 네게, 이리로 올라오라, 하는 것이 네 눈에 보이는 통치자의 앞에서 네가 낮아지는 것보다 나으니라. 7. For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
8. 급히 나아가서 다투지 말라. 그것의 마지막에 곧 네 이웃이 너를 모욕할 때에 네가 어찌할 줄을 알지 못할까 염려하노라. 8. Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9. 네 사정에 대하여 네 이웃과 직접 변론하고 은밀한 일을 남에게 드러내지 말라. 9. Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
10. 그것을 듣는 자가 너를 모욕하므로 너에 대한 악평이 떠나지 아니할까 염려하노라. 10. Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
11. 적절히 말한 말은 은 그림들에 있는 금 사과들 같으니라. 11. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12. 순종하는 귀에 대고 지혜롭게 책망하는 자는 금귀고리 같으며 정금 장식 같으니라. 12. As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13. 신실한 사자(使者)는 그를 보낸 자들에게 마치 수확 때에 내린 차가운 눈 같으니 그는 자기 주인들의 혼을 시원하게 하느니라. 13. As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
14. 누구든지 스스로 거짓 선물을 자랑하는 자는 비 없는 구름들과 바람 같으니라. 14. Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
15. 오래 참음을 통해 통치자도 설득되나니 부드러운 혀는 뼈를 꺾느니라. 15. By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16. 네가 꿀을 발견하였느냐? 네게 족한 만큼만 먹으라. 그것으로 배가 차서 네가 토할까 염려하노라. 16. Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17. 네 이웃의 집에서 네 발을 뒤로 물리라. 그가 네게 싫증이 나서 너를 미워할까 염려하노라. 17. Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
18. 자기 이웃을 대적하여 거짓 증언하는 자는 큰 망치요 칼이요 뾰족한 화살이니라. 18. A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19. 고난의 때에 신실하지 아니한 자를 신뢰하는 것은 부러진 이와 관절에서 빠진 발 같으니라. 19. Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20. 마음이 무거운 자에게 노래를 불러 주는 자는 추운 날씨에 옷을 빼앗는 자 같고 천연소다에 붓는 식초 같으니라. 20. As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
21. 네 원수가 주리거든 그에게 빵을 주어 먹게 하고 그가 목마르거든 그에게 물을 주어 마시게 하라. 21. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22. 네가 그의 머리 위에 불타는 숯을 쌓으면 {주}께서 네게 보답해 주시리라. 22. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
23. 북풍이 비를 몰아내는 것 같이 성난 얼굴은 헐뜯는 혀를 몰아내느니라. 23. The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24. 다투는 여자와 함께 넓은 집에서 사는 것보다 지붕 모퉁이에서 사는 것이 나으니라. 24. It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25. 먼 나라에서 오는 좋은 소식은 목마른 혼에게 냉수 같으니라. 25. As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26. 의로운 자가 사악한 자 앞에 굴복하는 것은 휘저은 샘과 썩은 옹달샘 같으니라. 26. A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27. 꿀을 많이 먹는 것이 좋지 못한 것 같이 사람들이 자기 영광을 구하는 것은 영광이 아니니라. 27. It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
28. 자기 영을 다스리지 못하는 자는 무너져 내려 성벽이 없는 도시와 같으니라. 28. He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
1. 어리석은 자에게는 명예가 어울리지 아니하니 그것은 마치 여름의 눈 같고 수확 때의 비 같으니라. 1. As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
2. 까닭 없는 저주는 떠도는 새와 날아가는 제비처럼 임하지 아니하리로다. 2. As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
3. 말에게는 채찍이요, 나귀에게는 재갈이며 어리석은 자의 등에는 회초리니라. 3. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
4. 어리석은 자의 어리석은 것을 따라서 그에게 대답하지 말라. 너도 그와 같을까 염려하노라. 4. Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5. 어리석은 자의 어리석은 것을 따라서 그에게 대답하라. 그가 스스로 지혜롭게 여길까 염려하노라. 5. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6. 어리석은 자의 손에 소식을 보내는 자는 발을 베어 내고 손해를 마시느니라. 6. He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.
7. 저는 자의 다리가 같지 아니한 것처럼 어리석은 자들의 입의 비유도 그러하니라. 7. The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8. 어리석은 자에게 명예를 주는 자는 무릿매에 돌을 매어 주는 자 같으니라. 8. As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9. 가시나무가 술 취한 자의 손으로 들어가는 것처럼 어리석은 자들의 입의 비유도 그러하니라. 9. As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10. 모든 것을 조성하신 위대한 하나님은 어리석은 자에게도 보응하시고 범법자들에게도 보응하시느니라. 10. The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.
11. 개가 자기의 토한 것으로 돌아가는 것 같이 어리석은 자도 자기의 어리석은 짓으로 돌아가느니라. 11. As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
12. 네가 스스로 지혜롭게 여기는 자를 보느냐? 그보다는 오히려 어리석은 자에게 더 소망이 있느니라. 12. Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
13. 게으른 자는 말하기를, 길에 사자가 있다. 거리에 사자가 있다, 하느니라. 13. The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
14. 문짝이 자기의 돌쩌귀 위에서 도는 것 같이 게으른 자도 자기 침상 위에서 도느니라. 14. As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.
15. 게으른 자는 자기 손을 품에 감추고 그것을 다시 자기 입으로 가져가는 것을 괴로워하느니라. 15. The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16. 게으른 자는 이유를 댈 수 있는 일곱 사람보다 자기를 더 지혜롭게 여기느니라. 16. The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
17. 지나가다가 자기에게 속하지 않은 다툼에 개입하는 자는 개의 귀를 잡는 자와 같으니라. 17. He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18. 미친 사람이 횃불과 화살과 죽음을 던지는 것 같이 18. As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,
19. 자기 이웃을 속이고 말하기를, 내가 장난하지 아니하였느냐? 하는 자도 그러하니라. 19. So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
20. 나무가 없는 곳에서는 불이 꺼지는 것 같이 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자가 없는 곳에서는 다툼이 그치느니라. 20. Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
21. 타오르는 숯에 숯을 더하는 것과 불에 나무를 더하는 것 같이 논쟁하기 좋아하는 자는 다툼을 일으키느니라. 21. As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22. 소문을 퍼뜨리는 자의 말들은 상처들과 같아서 배 속의 가장 안쪽 부분들로 내려가느니라. 22. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
23. 불타는 입술과 사악한 마음은 은 찌꺼기를 입힌 질그릇 조각 같으니라. 23. Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.
24. 미워하는 자는 자기 입술로 시치미를 떼고 자기 속에 속임수를 쌓아 두나니 24. He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;
25. 그가 좋게 말할지라도 그의 말을 믿지 말라. 그의 마음속에 일곱 가지 가증한 것이 있느니라. 25. When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26. 그가 속임수로 자기의 미움을 감춘다 하여도 그의 사악함은 온 회중 앞에 드러나리라. 26. Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.
27. 누구든지 구덩이를 파는 자는 그 안에 빠질 것이요, 돌을 굴리는 자는 그 돌이 그에게 되돌아오리라. 27. Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.
28. 거짓말하는 혀는 그 혀로 인해 고난 받는 자들을 미워하고 아첨하는 입은 패망을 이루느니라. 28. A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
1. 너는 내일을 자랑하지 말라. 하루 동안에 무슨 일이 일어날지 네가 알지 못하느니라. 1. Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2. 다른 사람이 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입으로는 하지 말며 낯선 자가 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입술로는 하지 말지니라. 2. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
3. 돌은 무겁고 모래도 무게가 있으나 어리석은 자의 진노는 그 둘보다 무거우니라. 3. A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.
4. 진노는 잔인하고 분노는 포악하거니와 시기 앞에야 누가 능히 서리요? 4. Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
5. 드러내어 꾸짖는 것이 은밀하게 사랑하는 것보다 나으니라. 5. Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6. 친구가 주는 상처는 믿음직하나 원수의 입맞춤은 속임수가 가득하니라. 6. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
7. 배부른 혼은 벌집도 싫어하나 주린 혼에게는 쓴 것도 모두 다니라. 7. The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
8. 자기 처소를 떠나 떠도는 자는 자기 보금자리를 떠나 떠도는 새와 같으니라. 8. As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.
9. 향유와 향수가 마음을 기쁘게 하나니 이처럼 마음에서 우러난 친구의 권고도 사람에게 달콤하니라. 9. Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
10. 네 친구와 네 아버지의 친구를 저버리지 말며 네 재난의 날에 네 형제의 집에 들어가지 말라. 가까이 있는 이웃이 멀리 있는 형제보다 나으니라. 10. Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.
11. 내 아들아, 지혜로운 자가 되어 내 마음을 즐겁게 하라. 그리하면 나를 모욕하는 자에게 내가 대답하리라. 11. My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
12. 분별 있는 자는 재앙을 미리 보고 숨거니와 단순한 자는 나아가다가 벌을 받느니라. 12. A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
13. 낯선 자를 위해 보증인이 된 자의 옷을 취하고 낯선 여자를 위해 보증을 선 자에게서 담보물을 취하라. 13. Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
14. 아침에 일찍 일어나 큰 소리로 자기 친구를 축복하면 그가 그것을 저주로 여기리라. 14. He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
15. 비가 몹시 오는 날에 계속해서 떨어지는 물방울과 다투기를 좋아하는 여자는 같으니 15. A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
16. 누구든지 그녀를 숨기는 자는 바람을 숨기며 오른손의 향유 곧 저절로 새는 향유를 숨기느니라. 16. Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
17. 쇠가 쇠를 예리하게 하는 것 같이 사람이 자기 친구의 얼굴을 예리하게 하느니라. 17. Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
18. 누구든지 무화과나무를 지키는 자가 그것의 열매를 먹는 것 같이 자기 주인을 모시는 자는 존귀하게 되리라. 18. Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.
19. 물에서 얼굴이 얼굴과 일치하는 것 같이 사람의 마음도 사람과 일치하느니라. 19. As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
20. 지옥과 멸망이 결코 가득 차지 아니하는 것 같이 사람의 눈도 결코 만족하지 아니하느니라. 20. Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
21. 도가니로 은을, 용광로로 금을 시험하듯 칭찬으로 사람을 시험하느니라. 21. As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.
22. 네가 비록 어리석은 자를 절구에 넣고 밀과 함께 공이로 찧을지라도 그의 어리석음은 그를 떠나지 아니하리라. 22. Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23. 너는 네 양 떼의 형편을 부지런히 알아보며 네 소 떼를 잘 보살피라. 23. Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
24. 재물은 영원히 있지 아니하니 왕관이 지속되어 모든 세대에 이르느냐? 24. For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
25. 마른풀이 나타나고 연한 풀이 스스로 모습을 드러내며 산의 채소들이 거두어지나니 25. The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
26. 어린양들은 네 옷이 되며 염소들은 밭 값이 되고 26. The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
27. 네게 염소의 젖이 넉넉하여 네 음식과 네 집안사람들의 음식과 네 여종들의 먹을 것이 되리라. 27. And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
1. 사악한 자들은 쫓아오는 자가 없어도 도망하나 의로운 자들은 사자같이 담대하니라. 1. The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
2. 땅의 범법으로 인해 그곳의 통치자가 많거니와 명철과 지식이 있는 한 사람으로 말미암아 그곳의 상태가 연장되리라. 2. For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.
3. 가난한 자를 학대하는 가난한 자는 아무 양식도 남기지 않고 휩쓸어가는 비 같으니라. 3. A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
4. 법을 버리는 자들은 사악한 자들을 칭찬하나 법을 지키는 자들은 그들과 싸우느니라. 4. They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.
5. 악한 자들은 판단의 공의를 깨닫지 못하나 {주}를 찾는 자들은 모든 것을 깨닫느니라. 5. Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.
6. 자기의 곧바름 속에서 걷는 가난한 자는 부유하지만 자기 길들이 비뚤어진 자보다 나으니라. 6. Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
7. 누구든지 법을 지키는 자는 지혜로운 아들이거니와 방탕한 자들의 벗이 되는 자는 자기 아버지를 부끄럽게 하느니라. 7. Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
8. 이자 놀이와 불의한 이익으로 자기 재물을 늘리는 자는 가난한 자를 불쌍히 여길 자를 위하여 그것을 모으리로다. 8. He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.
9. 사람이 자기 귀를 돌려 율법을 듣지 아니하면 그의 기도조차 가증한 것이 되리로다. 9. He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
10. 누구든지 의로운 자를 악한 길로 끌어들여 길을 잃게 하는 자는 스스로 자기 구덩이에 빠지려니와 곧바른 자는 좋은 것들을 소유하리로다. 10. Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.
11. 부자는 스스로 지혜롭게 여기거니와 명철이 있는 가난한 자는 자기를 살펴 아느니라. 11. The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.
12. 의로운 자들이 기뻐하면 큰 영광이 있거니와 사악한 자들이 일어나면 사람이 숨느니라. 12. When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.
13. 자기 죄들을 숨기는 자는 형통하지 못하려니와 누구든지 그것들을 자백하고 버리는 자는 긍휼을 얻으리라. 13. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
14. 항상 두려워하는 자는 행복하거니와 자기 마음을 강퍅하게 하는 자는 해악에 빠지리라. 14. Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
15. 가난한 백성을 다스리는 사악한 치리자는 울부짖는 사자와 돌아다니는 곰 같으니라. 15. As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.
16. 명철이 부족한 통치자는 또한 크게 학대하는 자이거니와 탐욕을 미워하는 자는 자기 날들을 길게 하리라. 16. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
17. 폭력을 써서 어떤 사람의 피를 흘리는 자는 구덩이로 도망하리니 아무도 그를 멈추게 하지 말지니라. 17. A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.
18. 누구든지 곧바르게 걷는 자는 구원을 받을 터이나 자기 길들이 비뚤어진 자는 곧 넘어지리라. 18. Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
19. 자기 땅을 가는 자는 많은 빵을 소유하려니와 헛된 자들을 따르는 자는 궁핍이 넘치리라. 19. He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
20. 신실한 자는 복이 넘치려니와 속히 부자가 되려 하는 자는 무죄하지 아니하리라. 20. A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
21. 사람들의 외모를 존중하는 것은 좋지 아니하니 그 사람이 빵 한 조각을 위하여 범법하리라. 21. To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.
22. 급히 부자가 되려 하는 자는 악한 눈을 가졌으므로 궁핍이 자기 위에 임할 줄을 깊이 생각하지 아니하느니라. 22. He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.
23. 사람을 꾸짖는 자는 혀로 아첨하는 자보다 나중에 더 많은 호의를 얻으리라. 23. He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
24. 누구든지 자기 아버지나 어머니를 강탈하고서도, 그것은 범법이 아니라, 하는 자, 바로 그자는 파멸시키는 자의 벗이니라. 24. Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.
25. 마음이 교만한 자는 다툼을 일으키거니와 {주}를 신뢰하는 자는 기름지게 되리라. 25. He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.
26. 자기 마음을 신뢰하는 자는 어리석은 자이나 누구든지 지혜롭게 걷는 자는 구출되리라. 26. He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
27. 가난한 자에게 주는 자는 부족하지 아니하려니와 자기 눈을 가리는 자는 많은 저주를 받으리라. 27. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
28. 사악한 자들이 일어나면 사람들이 스스로 숨거니와 그들이 멸망하면 의로운 자들이 늘어나느니라. 28. When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.
1. 자주 책망을 받으면서도 목을 굳게 하는 자는 갑자기 멸망을 당하며 또 구할 길이 없으리라. 1. He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2. 의로운 자들이 권세를 잡으면 백성이 기뻐하나 사악한 자가 다스리면 백성이 애곡하느니라. 2. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
3. 누구든지 지혜를 사랑하는 자는 자기 아버지를 기쁘게 하나 창녀들과 사귀는 자는 자기 재산을 낭비하느니라. 3. Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4. 왕은 판단의 공의로 땅을 굳건히 세우나 뇌물을 받는 자는 그것을 뒤엎느니라. 4. The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
5. 자기 이웃에게 아첨하는 자는 자기 발에 그물을 치느니라. 5. A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6. 악한 자의 범법에는 올무가 있거니와 의로운 자는 노래하고 기뻐하느니라. 6. In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7. 의로운 자는 가난한 자의 사정을 깊이 생각하나 사악한 자는 관심을 기울여 그것을 알려 하지 아니하느니라. 7. The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
8. 조롱하는 자들은 도시를 올무에 걸리게 하거니와 지혜로운 자들은 진노를 돌이키느니라. 8. Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath.
9. 지혜로운 자가 어리석은 자와 다투면 그가 노하든지 웃든지 안식이 없느니라. 9. If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
10. 피에 주린 자들은 곧바른 자를 미워하되 의인들은 그의 혼을 찾느니라. 10. The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
11. 어리석은 자는 자기 생각을 모두 말하되 지혜로운 자는 그것을 나중에까지 지키느니라. 11. A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12. 치리자가 거짓말에 귀를 기울이면 그의 모든 종들이 사악하게 되느니라. 12. If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13. 가난한 자와 속이는 자가 함께 만나거니와 {주}께서 그 두 사람의 눈을 밝게 하시느니라. 13. The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.
14. 왕이 가난한 자를 위해 신실하게 재판하면 그의 왕좌가 영원히 굳게 서리라. 14. The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15. 회초리와 꾸짖음은 지혜를 주거니와 제멋대로 버려둔 자식은 자기 어머니에게 수치를 가져오느니라. 15. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16. 사악한 자들이 많이 늘어나면 범법이 증가하거니와 의로운 자들은 그들이 넘어지는 것을 보리라. 16. When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17. 네 아들을 바로잡으라. 그리하면 그가 네게 안식을 주고 참으로 네 혼에게 기쁨을 주리라. 17. Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
18. 환상 계시가 없는 곳에서는 백성이 망하거니와 법을 지키는 자는 행복하니라. 18. Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
19. 종은 말들만으로 바로잡지 못하리니 그가 깨달아도 대답하려 하지 아니하느니라. 19. A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20. 네가 말이 조급한 사람을 보느냐? 그보다는 어리석은 자에게 더 소망이 있느니라. 20. Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
21. 자기 종을 아이 때부터 자상하게 키우는 자는 마침내 그를 자기 아들같이 되게 하리라. 21. He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
22. 노하는 자는 다툼을 일으키고 성내는 자는 많이 범법하느니라. 22. An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23. 사람의 교만은 그를 낮추려니와 명예는 영이 겸손한 자를 들어 올리리라. 23. A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24. 누구든지 도둑과 짝하는 자는 자기 혼을 미워하나니 그는 저주를 듣고서도 그것을 드러내지 아니하느니라. 24. Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25. 사람을 두려워하면 올무에 걸리려니와 누구든지 {주}를 신뢰하는 자는 안전하리라. 25. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
26. 많은 사람이 치리자의 호의를 구하나 모든 사람에 대한 판단은 {주}로부터 오느니라. 26. Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
27. 불의한 자는 의로운 자에게 가증한 자요, 길이 곧바른 자는 사악한 자에게 가증한 자니라. 27. An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
1. 야게의 아들 아굴의 말씀들 곧 대언이라. 그 사람이 이디엘 곧 이디엘과 우갈에게 말하였느니라. 1. The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
2. 참으로 나는 누구보다도 더 짐승 같으며 내게는 사람의 명철이 있지 아니하노라. 2. Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.
3. 나는 지혜도 배우지 못하였고 내게는 거룩한 것들에 대한 지식도 있지 아니하노라. 3. I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
4. 누가 하늘에 오르셨느냐? 혹은 내려가셨느냐? 누가 바람을 자기 주먹 안에 모으셨느냐? 누가 물을 옷에 싸셨느냐? 누가 땅의 모든 끝을 굳게 세우셨느냐? 네가 말할 수 있거든 그분의 이름은 무엇이며 그분의 아들의 이름은 무엇이냐? 4. Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
5. 하나님의 모든 말씀은 순수하며 그분은 자신을 신뢰하는 자들에게 방패가 되시느니라. 5. Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6. 너는 그분의 말씀들에 더하지 말라. 그분께서 너를 책망하실 터인즉 네가 거짓말쟁이로 드러날까 염려하노라. 6. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7. 내가 두 가지 일을 주께 요청하였사오니 내가 죽기 전에 그것들을 내게 거절하지 마시옵소서. 7. Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
8. 헛된 것과 거짓말들을 내게서 멀리 옮기시오며 나를 가난하게도 마옵시고 부하게도 마옵시며 내게 알맞은 양식으로 나를 먹이시옵소서. 8. Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9. 내가 배불러서 주를 부인하고 말하기를, {주}가 누구냐? 할까 염려하오며 또는 내가 가난하여 도둑질하고 내 하나님의 이름을 헛되이 취할까 염려하나이다. 9. Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
10. 종을 그의 주인에게 고소하지 말라. 그가 너를 저주하면 네가 죄 있는 자로 드러날까 염려하노라. 10. Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
11. 자기 아버지를 저주하며 자기 어머니를 축복하지 아니하는 세대가 있느니라. 11. There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12. 자기 눈에는 순결하여도 여전히 자기의 더러움에서 씻기지 않은 세대가 있느니라. 12. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
13. 한 세대가 있으니 오 그들의 눈이 어찌 그리 높은가! 그들의 눈꺼풀이 높이 들렸도다. 13. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14. 앞니는 검 같고 어금니는 칼 같아서 가난한 자를 삼켜 땅에서 없애며 궁핍한 자를 삼켜 사람들 가운데서 없애는 세대가 있느니라. 14. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15. 말거머리에게, 다오. 다오, 하고 부르짖는 두 딸이 있느니라. 결코 만족하지 못하는 것 세 가지가 있으며 참으로 네 가지가, 충분하다, 하지 아니하나니 15. The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:
16. 곧 무덤과 수태하지 못하는 태와 물로 채우지 못하는 땅과, 충분하다, 하지 아니하는 불이니라. 16. The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.
17. 자기 아버지를 조롱하며 자기 어머니에게 순종하기를 싫어하는 눈은 골짜기의 까마귀들이 쪼아 내고 독수리 새끼들이 먹으리라. 17. The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18. 내게 너무나도 놀라운 것 세 가지가 있으며 참으로 내가 알지 못하는 것 네 가지가 있나니 18. There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
19. 곧 공중에 있는 독수리의 길과 바위 위에 있는 뱀의 길과 바다 한가운데 있는 배의 길과 처녀와 함께한 남자의 길이니라. 19. The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20. 간음하는 여자의 길도 그러하니라. 그녀가 먹고 자기 입을 씻고는 말하기를, 내가 사악한 짓을 행하지 아니하였다, 하느니라. 20. Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
21. 세 가지로 인해 땅이 평안을 잃고 네 가지로 인해 땅이 견딜 수 없나니 21. For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
22. 곧 종이 통치하는 것과 어리석은 자가 음식으로 배부른 것과 22. For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
23. 미운 여자가 시집간 것과 여종이 자기 여주인의 상속자가 된 것이니라. 23. For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24. 땅 위에서 작지만 지혜가 뛰어난 것 네 가지가 있나니 24. There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
25. 곧 강하지 않은 백성이지만 여름에 먹을 것을 예비하는 개미와 25. The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
26. 약한 국민이지만 자기 집을 바위 속에 짓는 산토끼와 26. The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27. 왕이 없어도 모두가 떼를 지어 나아가는 메뚜기와 27. The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28. 자기 손으로 지탱하며 왕궁에 거하는 거미니라. 28. The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.
29. 잘 다니는 것 세 가지가 있으며 참으로 멋있게 다니는 것 네 가지가 있나니 29. There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:
30. 곧 짐승들 가운데 가장 강하여 어떤 것 앞에서도 물러서지 아니하는 사자와 30. A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
31. 그레이하운드와 또 숫염소와 일어나 대적할 수 없는 왕이니라. 31. A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
32. 만일 네가 어리석게 행하여 네 자신을 높였거나 혹은 악을 생각하였거든 네 손으로 입을 막으라. 32. If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
33. 참으로 우유를 저으면 버터가 나오고 코를 비틀면 피가 나는 것 같이 강제로 진노를 일으키면 다툼이 나느니라. 33. Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
1. 르무엘 왕의 말씀들 곧 그의 어머니가 그에게 가르친 대언이라. 1. The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.
2. 내 아들아, 무엇을 말하랴? 내 태의 아들아, 무엇을 말하랴? 내가 서원하여 얻은 아들아, 무엇을 말하랴? 2. What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
3. 네 기력을 여자들에게 주지 말며 네 길들을 왕들을 멸망시키는 것에 주지 말라. 3. Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
4. 오 르무엘아, 포도주를 마시는 것은 왕들에게 합당하지 아니하고 왕들에게 합당하지 아니하며 독주를 마시는 것은 통치자들에게 합당하지 아니하니라. 4. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
5. 그들이 마시다가 법을 잊어버리고 고난 받는 자들 중의 어느 한 사람의 재판을 굽게 할까 염려하노라. 5. Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
6. 독주는 망하려는 자에게 주고 포도주는 마음이 무거운 자들에게 주라. 6. Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
7. 그가 마시고 자기의 빈궁함을 잊어버리며 다시는 자기의 고통을 기억하지 아니하게 할지니라. 7. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
8. 멸망 받기로 작정된 모든 자들의 소송에서 말 못하는 자들을 위하여 네 입을 열라. 8. Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
9. 네 입을 열어 의롭게 재판하고 가난한 자와 궁핍한 자의 사정을 변호하라. 9. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
10. ¶ 누가 현숙한 여인을 찾겠느냐? 그녀의 값은 루비보다 훨씬 더 나가느니라. 10. ¶ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11. 그녀의 남편의 마음이 그녀를 편안히 신뢰하므로 그가 노략물을 필요로 하지 아니하리라. 11. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12. 그녀는 자기 평생 동안 그에게 선을 행하고 악을 행하지 아니하리라. 12. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13. 그녀는 양털과 아마를 구하여 기꺼이 자기 손으로 일하고 13. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14. 상인들의 배들과 같아서 멀리서 자기 양식을 가져오며 14. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15. 또 아직 밤일 때에 일어나 자기 집안사람들에게 먹을 것을 주고 자기 여종들에게 몫을 정하여 주며 15. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16. 밭을 깊이 살펴보고 그것을 사며 자기 손의 열매를 가지고 포도원을 세우며 16. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17. 힘 있게 허리를 동이고 자기 팔을 강하게 하며 17. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18. 자기의 장사하는 일이 잘되는 줄을 깨닫고 밤에 등잔불을 끄지 아니하며 18. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19. 자기 손을 물레 가락에 대고 손으로 물레 실패를 잡으며 19. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20. 가난한 자들에게 손을 내밀고 참으로 궁핍한 자들에게 손을 뻗으며 20. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21. 자기 집안의 모든 사람들이 주홍색 옷을 입었으므로 눈이 와도 자기 집안사람들로 인해 두려워하지 아니하고 21. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22. 스스로 수놓은 융단 덮개를 만들며 비단옷과 자주색 옷을 입고 22. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23. 그녀의 남편은 그 땅의 장로들 가운데 앉을 때에 성문 안에서 알려지느니라. 23. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24. 그녀는 고운 아마포를 만들어 팔고 허리띠를 상인들에게 넘겨주며 24. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25. 능력과 명예로 옷을 삼고 다가올 때를 기뻐하리라. 25. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26. 그녀는 지혜를 가지고 자기 입을 열며 자기 혀 속에 친절의 법을 두고 26. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27. 자기 집안의 길들을 잘 살피며 게을리 얻은 빵을 먹지 아니하나니 27. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28. 그녀의 자녀들은 일어나서 그녀를 가리켜 복 받은 자라 하고 그녀의 남편도 그녀를 칭찬하기를, 28. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29. 많은 딸들이 덕스럽게 행하였으나 그대는 그들 모두보다 뛰어나다, 하느니라. 29. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30. 호의도 거짓되고 아름다운 것도 헛되나 {주}를 두려워하는 여자는 칭찬을 받으리라. 30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
31. 그녀의 손의 열매를 그녀에게 주라. 또 그녀가 직접 행한 일들이 성문 안에서 그녀를 칭찬하게 할지어다. 31. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
