1장

 

1. 니느웨에 대한 엄중한 부담 곧 엘고스 사람 나훔의 환상 계시에 관한 책이라. 1. The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

2. 하나님은 질투하는 분이시며 {주}께서는 원수 갚는 분이시니라. {주}께서는 보복하며 격노하는 분이시니 {주}께서는 자신의 대적들에게 보복하시고 자신의 원수들을 위해 진노를 간직하시는도다. 2. God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

3. {주}께서는 분노하기를 더디 하시고 권능이 크시며 사악한 자를 결코 사면하지 아니하시리로다. {주}께서는 회오리바람과 폭풍우 속에 자신의 길을 두시며 구름들은 그분 발의 티끌이로다. 3. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

4. 그분께서 바다를 꾸짖어 마르게 하시고 모든 강을 말리시니 바산과 갈멜이 쇠하며 레바논의 꽃이 시드는도다. 4. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

5. 그분으로 말미암아 산들이 흔들리고 작은 산들이 녹으며 그분 앞에서 땅이 불타나니 참으로 세상과 그 안에 거하는 모든 것이 그러하도다. 5. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

6. 누가 능히 그분의 격노 앞에 서리요? 누가 능히 그분의 맹렬한 분노 가운데 거하리요? 그분의 격노가 불같이 쏟아졌고 그분으로 말미암아 바위들이 무너져 내렸도다. 6. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

7. {주}께서는 선하시고 고난의 날에 강한 요새가 되시나니 그분은 자신을 신뢰하는 자들을 아시느니라. 7. The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

8. 그러나 그분께서는 넘쳐 나는 큰물로 거기의 처소를 철저히 끝내시고 자신의 원수들을 어둠으로 추격하시리라. 8. But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

9. 너희가 {주}를 대적하려고 무슨 일을 꾀하느냐? 그분께서 철저히 끝을 내시리니 고통이 두 번 다시 일어나지 아니하리라. 9. What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

10. 그들이 가시나무들같이 함께 엉켜 있고 술 취한 자들같이 취해 있는 동안에 완전히 마른 지푸라기같이 소멸되리라. 10. For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

11. 악을 꾀하여 {주}를 대적하는 한 사람이 네게서 나오나니 곧 사악한 조언자라. 11. There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

12. {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 그들이 비록 평안하고 또한 많을지라도 그가 지나갈 때에 이같이 그들이 베어져서 쓰러지리라. 내가 비록 너를 괴롭혔을지라도 다시는 너를 괴롭히지 아니하리니 12. Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

13. 이제 내가 네게서 그의 멍에를 꺾고 네 결박을 부수리라. 13. For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

14. {주}가 너에 관하여 명령을 내렸은즉 다시는 네 이름이 전파되지 아니하리라. 내가 네 신들의 집에서 새긴 형상과 부어 만든 형상을 끊으며 네 무덤을 만들리라. 이는 네가 비열하기 때문이라. 14. And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

15. 보라, 좋은 소식을 가져오며 화평을 널리 알리는 자의 발이 산들 위에 있도다! 오 유다야, 네 엄숙한 명절들을 지키고 네 서원을 이행하라. 그 사악한 자가 완전히 끊어져서 다시는 너를 지나가지 아니하리라. 15. Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

 

 

2장

 

1. 산산조각 부수는 자가 네 얼굴 앞에 올라왔으니 요새를 지키고 길을 감시하며 네 허리를 강하게 하고 네 힘을 심히 강하게 할지어다. 1. He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

2. {주}께서 이스라엘의 뛰어남을 외면하신 것 같이 야곱의 뛰어남을 외면하셨으니 비우는 자들이 그들을 비웠고 그들의 포도나무 가지를 못 쓰게 하였느니라. 2. For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

3. 그의 용사들의 방패는 붉게 되고 그 용맹한 자들은 주홍색 옷을 입었도다. 그가 예비하는 날에 병거들은 불 뿜는 횃불을 갖추고 전나무들은 무섭게 흔들리리로다. 3. The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.

4. 병거들이 거리에서 맹위를 떨치고 넓은 길에서 서로 밀치며 나아가리니 그것들이 횃불같이 보이며 그것들이 번개같이 달려가리라. 4. The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

5. 그가 자기의 훌륭한 자들을 나열하리니 그들이 걷는 가운데 걸려 넘어지며 급히 그곳의 성벽에 이르러 방어할 것을 예비하리로다. 5. He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.

6. 강들의 문들이 열리고 궁궐이 해체되며 6. The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

7. 훗삽은 포로로 끌려가고 이끌려 가리니 그녀의 시녀들이 가슴을 치면서 비둘기 소리를 내며 그녀를 인도하리라. 7. And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

8. 오직 니느웨는 옛적부터 물이 모인 연못 같으나 그들이 도망하리라. 그들이 외쳐 말하기를, 서라, 서라, 하여도 아무도 뒤를 돌아보지 아니하리라. 8. But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.

9. 너희는 은을 노략하고 금을 노략하라. 그 저축한 것이 끝이 없고 모든 아름다운 가구에서 나오는 영광이 끝이 없도다. 9. Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

10. 그녀가 텅 비고 비어 피폐하게 되었도다. 마음이 녹으매 무릎들이 서로 부딪히며 모든 허리에 큰 고통이 있고 그들의 얼굴이 다 검게 되는도다. 10. She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

11. 사자들의 거처가 어디이며 젊은 사자들의 먹는 곳이 어디이냐? 전에는 사자 곧 늙은 사자와 그 사자의 새끼가 거기서 거닐되 아무도 그것들을 두렵게 하지 못하였으며 11. Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?

12. 그 사자가 자기 새끼들을 위해 먹이를 충분히 갈기갈기 찢고 자기의 암사자들을 위해 먹이의 목을 조르며 또 자기 구멍을 먹이로, 자기 굴을 강탈한 것으로 채웠도다. 12. The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

13. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 보라, 내가 너를 대적하노라. 내가 그녀의 병거들을 연기 속에서 불태우고 네 젊은 사자들을 칼로 삼키며 또 내가 네 먹이를 땅에서 끊으리니 네 사자(使者)들의 목소리가 다시는 들리지 아니하리라. 13. Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

 

 

3장

 

1. 피 흘리는 도시에 화가 있을지어다! 그것은 전체가 거짓과 강탈로 가득하며 탈취가 떠나지 아니하는도다. 1. Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;

2. 채찍질하는 소리와 바퀴들의 덜컥거리는 소리와 말들의 달려가는 소리와 병거들의 뛰는 소리로다. 2. The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

3. 기병이 빛나는 칼과 번쩍이는 창을 들어 올린즉 거기에 살육 당한 무리가 있으며 수많은 사체가 있고 그들의 송장들이 끝이 없어 그들이 그들의 송장들에 걸려 넘어지나니 3. The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

4. 이는 마술의 여주인 곧 잘생긴 창녀가 많은 행음을 벌였기 때문이라. 그녀가 자기의 행음으로 민족들을 팔며 자기의 마술로 가족들을 파느니라. 4. Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

5. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 보라, 내가 너를 대적하노라. 내가 네 옷자락을 네 얼굴 위로 들추어 올려 그 민족들에게 네 벌거벗은 것을 보이며 그 왕국들에게 네 수치를 보일 것이요, 5. Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

6. 또 내가 가증하고 더러운 것을 네 위에 던져 너를 비천하게 하며 구경거리로 세우리니 6. And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

7. 너를 바라보는 모든 자들이 네게서 도망하며 이르기를, 니느웨가 피폐하게 되었은즉 누가 그녀를 위해 애곡하리요? 내가 어디서 너를 위해 위로할 자들을 구하리요? 하리라. 7. And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

8. 네가 사람이 많이 거하는 노보다 나으냐? 노는 강들 가운데 놓여서 물들이 그것의 사방을 둘렀으므로 바다가 노의 방벽이 되었고 그것의 성벽은 바다에서부터 시작되었느니라. 8. Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?

9. 에티오피아와 이집트가 그녀의 힘이 되매 그것이 끝이 없었으며 붓과 룹이 너를 돕는 자가 되었도다. 9. Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

10. 그럼에도 그녀가 끌려가서 포로가 되매 그녀의 어린아이들도 모든 거리의 꼭대기에서 내던져져서 산산조각 났으며 그들이 그녀의 존귀한 자들을 두고 제비를 뽑았고 그녀의 모든 큰 자는 사슬에 결박되었도다. 10. Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

11. 너도 술 취하여 숨을 것이요, 너도 그 원수로 인하여 힘을 구하리라. 11. Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

12. 네 모든 강한 요새는 처음 익은 무화과들이 달린 무화과나무들 같도다. 그것들을 흔들면 그것들이 먹는 자의 입으로 떨어지리라. 12. All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

13. 보라, 네 한가운데 있는 네 백성은 여자들이니라. 네 땅의 성문들은 네 원수들을 향해 넓게 열려 있으니 불이 네 빗장들을 삼키리라. 13. Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

14. 너는 물을 길어 에워싸일 것을 대비하고 네 강한 요새들을 견고하게 하며 진흙에 들어가서 반죽을 밟아 벽돌 가마를 튼튼하게 하라. 14. Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

15. 거기서 불이 너를 삼키며 칼이 너를 끊되 그것이 자벌레처럼 너를 먹어치우리라. 너는 자벌레같이 네 자신을 많이 불어나게 할지어다. 너는 메뚜기같이 네 자신을 많이 불어나게 할지어다. 15. There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

16. 네가 네 상인들을 하늘의 별들보다 많게 하였으나 자벌레가 노략하고 날아가는도다. 16. Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.

17. 관을 쓴 너의 사람들은 메뚜기들 같고 너의 대장들은 큰 메뚜기들 같도다. 추운 날에는 그것들이 울타리에 진을 치나 해가 뜨면 도망하므로 그것들이 있는 곳 즉 그것들의 처소를 알 수 없느니라. 17. Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

18. 오 아시리아 왕이여, 네 목자들은 잠자고 네 고귀한 자들은 티끌 속에 거하며 네 백성은 산들 위에서 흩어지나 아무도 그들을 모으지 아니하는도다. 18. Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

19. 네 상처는 치유할 수 없고 네 부상은 심하도다. 네 소문을 듣는 모든 자가 너로 말미암아 손뼉을 치리니 이는 네 사악함이 항상 그들 위로 지나갔기 때문이 아니냐? 19. There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
