하박국

1장

1. 대언자 하박국이 본 엄중한 부담이라. 1. The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

2. 오 {주}여, 내가 부르짖어도 주께서 들으려 하지 아니하시기를 어느 때까지 하시리이까! 내가 폭력으로 말미암아 주께 외쳐도 주께서는 구원하려 하지 아니하시나이다. 2. O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!

3. 어찌하여 주께서 내게 불법을 보이시며 나로 하여금 학대를 보게 하시나이까? 노략과 폭력이 내 앞에 있사오니 곧 불화와 다툼을 일으키는 것이 있나이다. 3. Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

4. 그러므로 율법이 해이해지고 판단의 공의가 전혀 앞으로 나아가지 못하나니 사악한 자가 의로운 자를 에워싸므로 부당한 판단이 나아가나이다. 4. Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

5. ¶ 너희는 이교도들 가운데서 보고 관심을 두며 놀랍도록 이상히 여기라. 내가 너희의 날들에 한 일을 행하리니 누가 너희에게 그것을 말하여도 너희가 그것을 믿지 아니하리라. 5. ¶ Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

6. 보라, 내가 저 모질고 성급한 민족 곧 그 땅의 넓은 곳으로 진격하며 자기 소유가 아닌 거처들을 소유할 갈대아 사람들을 일으키노라. 6. For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.

7. 그들은 두렵고 무서우며 그들의 심판과 그들의 위엄이 그들에게서 나오느니라. 7. They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.

8. 그들의 말들은 또한 표범보다 더 빠르고 저녁때의 이리보다 더 사나우며 그들의 기병들은 스스로 퍼지고 멀리서 오나니 그들은 마치 먹으려고 서두르는 독수리같이 날아오리라. 8. Their horses also are swifter than the leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves: and their horsemen shall spread themselves, and their horsemen shall come from far; they shall fly as the eagle that hasteth to eat.

9. 그들은 다 폭력을 행사하러 오는데 그들의 얼굴은 동풍처럼 먹어 치울 태세를 취하고 그들은 모래를 모으듯 포로 된 자들을 모으며 9. They shall come all for violence: their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand.

10. 또 왕들을 비웃고 통치자들을 조롱하며 모든 강한 요새를 비웃으리니 그들이 흙을 쌓아 그것을 취하리라. 10. And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn unto them: they shall deride every strong hold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

11. 그때에 그의 생각이 변하매 그가 이것 즉 자기의 능력을 자기 신에게로 돌리며 정도를 지나쳐 죄를 지으리라. 11. Then shall his mind change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing this his power unto his god.

12. ¶ 오 {주} 내 하나님이여, 나의 거룩한 이여, 주께서는 영원부터 계시지 아니하시나이까? 우리가 죽지 아니하리이다. 오 {주}여, 주께서 심판하시려고 그들을 정하셨나이다. 오 능하신 하나님이여, 주께서 바로잡아 주시려고 그들을 세우셨나이다. 12. ¶ Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.

13. 주께서는 눈이 정결하셔서 악을 보지 못하시며 또 불법을 보지 못하시거늘 어찌하여 배신하는 자들을 바라만 보시고 사악한 자가 자기보다 더 의로운 자를 삼키는데도 주의 혀를 억제하시나이까? 13. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

14. 또 주께서는 어찌하여 사람들을 바다의 물고기 같게 하시며 자기들을 다스릴 치리자도 없는, 기어 다니는 것들 같게 하시나이까? 14. And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

15. 그들은 낚시로 그들 모두를 끌어올리고 자기들의 그물로 그들을 잡으며 자기들의 끄는 그물로 그들을 모으고 그런 까닭에 기뻐하고 즐거워하나이다. 15. They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

16. 그러므로 그들이 자기들의 그물에게 희생물을 드리고 자기들의 끄는 그물에게 분향하나니 이는 그것들로 말미암아 그들의 몫이 기름지게 되고 그들의 먹을 것이 풍족하게 되기 때문이니이다. 16. Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous.

17. 그런즉 그들이 자기들의 그물을 비우며 계속해서 민족들을 아끼지 아니하고 죽여야 하리이까? 17. Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare continually to slay the nations?

2장

1. 내가 나의 파수 보는 곳에 서며 나를 망대에 세우고 그분께서 내게 무어라 말씀하실지 또 내가 책망 받을 때에 무어라 대답할지 보려고 깨어 있으리라, 하였더니 1. I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

2. {주}께서 내게 응답하여 이르시되, 그 환상 계시를 기록하고 판들 위에 분명하게 그것을 새겨서 그것을 읽는 자가 달음질치게 하라. 2. And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

3. 그 환상 계시는 여전히 정한 때를 위한 것이나 그 끝에 이르러서는 그것이 말할 것이요, 거짓말하지 아니하리라. 비록 그것이 더딜지라도 그것을 기다리라. 그것이 반드시 올 터이므로 그것이 지체하지 아니하리라. 3. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

4. 보라, 위로 높여진 자의 혼은 그의 속에서 곧바르지 아니하나 오직 의인은 자기 믿음으로 살리라. 4. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

5. ¶ 또한 참으로 그는 포도주로 범법하므로 거만한 자요 집에 가만히 있지 아니하는 자니라. 그는 지옥같이 자기 욕망을 넓히며 또 그는 사망 같아서 만족하지 못하고 자기에게로 모든 민족들을 모으며 자기에게로 모든 백성들을 쌓아 올리나니 5. ¶ Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

6. 이 모든 사람들이 비유를 들어 그를 치고 조롱하는 속담을 들어 그를 치지 아니하겠느냐? 곧 이르기를, 자기 소유가 아닌 것을 늘리는 자에게 화가 있을지어다! 네가 어느 때까지 그리하려느냐? 두터운 진흙으로 짐을 진 자에게 화가 있을지어다! 6. Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

7. 너를 물어뜯을 자들이 갑자기 일어나지 아니하겠으며 너를 괴롭게 할 자들이 깨지 아니하겠느냐? 그리한즉 네가 그들에게 전리품이 되리로다. 7. Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

8. 네가 많은 민족들을 노략하였으므로 그 백성의 남은 자들이 다 너를 노략하리니 사람들의 피와 또 그 땅과 그 도시와 그 안에 거하는 모든 사람에게 행한 폭력으로 인하여 그리하리라. 8. Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

9. ¶ 자기 집을 위해 악한 탐욕으로 탐욕을 부리며 이로써 자기 보금자리를 높은 곳에 두어 재앙의 힘에서 구출 받고자 하는 자에게 화가 있을지어다! 9. ¶ Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

10. 네가 많은 백성들을 끊음으로 네 집에 수치를 가져왔으며 네 혼을 대적하여 죄를 지었도다. 10. Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.

11. 돌이 담 속에서부터 부르짖고 들보가 목재 속에서부터 그것에게 응답하리라. 11. For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

12. ¶ 피로 고을을 건설하며 불법으로 도시를 세우는 자에게 화가 있을지어다! 12. ¶ Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

13. 보라, 그 백성이 바로 그 불 속에서 수고하며 그 백성이 바로 그 헛된 것으로 인하여 지치게 되리니 그것이 만군의 {주}에게서 나오지 아니하였느냐? 13. Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

14. 물들이 바다를 덮는 것 같이 {주}의 영광을 아는 지식이 땅에 가득하리로다. 14. For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

15. ¶ 자기 이웃에게 마실 것을 주고 네 술 부대를 그에게 주며 또한 그를 취하게 함으로써 너로 하여금 그들의 벌거벗은 것을 보게 하는 자에게 화가 있을지어다! 15. ¶ Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

16. 네가 영광대신 수치로 가득한즉 너도 마시고 너의 포피를 드러낼지어다. {주}의 오른손의 잔이 네게로 돌아올 것이요, 수치스럽게 토한 것이 네 영광 위에 임하리니 16. Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD'S right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

17. 레바논에게 행한 폭력과 짐승들을 노략한 일이 너를 덮으리라. 사람들의 피와 또 그 땅과 그 도시와 그 안에 거하는 모든 사람에게 행한 폭력으로 인하여 그것이 그들을 두렵게 하였느니라. 17. For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

18. ¶ 새긴 형상이 무슨 유익을 주기에 그것을 만드는 자가 그것을 새겼느냐? 부어 만든 형상 곧 거짓들을 가르치는 선생이 무슨 유익을 주기에 자기 작품을 만드는 자가 그것을 신뢰하여 말 못하는 우상들을 만들려 하느냐? 18. ¶ What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

19. 나무에게 이르기를, 깨라, 하며 말 못하는 돌에게 이르기를, 일어나라. 그것이 가르치리라, 하는 자에게 화가 있을지어다! 보라, 그것은 금과 은으로 입혀졌은즉 그것의 한가운데에는 전혀 숨이 없느니라. 19. Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

20. 그러나 {주}는 자신의 거룩한 전에 있으니 온 땅은 그의 앞에서 잠잠할지니라. 20. But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

3장

1. 시기오놋에 맞춘 대언자 하박국의 기도라. 1. A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.

2. 오 {주}여, 내가 주께서 말씀하시는 것을 듣고 두려웠나이다. 오 {주}여, 그 해들의 한중간에 주의 일을 되살리시옵소서. 그 해들의 한중간에 알리시옵소서. 진노하실 때에 긍휼을 기억하시옵소서. 2. O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

3. 하나님께서 데만에서 오셨고 [거룩하신 이]께서 바란 산에서 오셨도다. 셀라. 그분의 영광이 하늘들을 덮으며 그분의 찬양이 땅에 가득하도다. 3. God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.

4. 그분의 광채는 빛과 같고 뿔들이 그분의 손에서 나와 그분께 있나니 거기에 그분의 권능이 감추어져 있도다. 4. And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.

5. 역병이 그분 앞에서 나갔고 타오르는 숯이 그분의 발에서 나아갔도다. 5. Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.

6. 그분께서 서서 땅을 측량하셨으며 그분께서 바라보시고 민족들을 쪼개어 몰아내시매 영존하는 산들이 흩어졌고 영원한 작은 산들이 엎드렸나니 그분의 길들은 영존하는도다. 6. He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.

7. 내가 고통 중에 있는 구산의 장막들을 보았나니 미디안 땅의 휘장들이 떨었도다. 7. I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.

8. {주}께서 그 강들을 불쾌히 여기셨을까? 주께서 그 강들에게 분노하셨나이까? 주께서 그 바다에게 진노하셨으므로 주의 말들을 타시며 주의 구원의 병거들을 타셨나이까? 8. Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?

9. 지파들에 관한 맹세 곧 주의 말씀에 따라 주의 활이 아주 활집에서 나왔나이다. 셀라. 주께서 강들로 땅을 쪼개셨나이다. 9. Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.

10. 산들이 주를 보고 떨었으며 물이 넘쳐흘러 지나갔고 깊음이 자기 목소리를 내며 자기 손을 높이 들었나이다. 10. The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.

11. 해와 달이 자기들의 처소에서 멈추어 섰다가 주의 화살들의 빛과 주의 번쩍이는 창의 광채로 말미암아 갔나이다. 11. The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.

12. 주께서 격노하사 그 땅을 지나 행진하셨으며 주께서 분노하사 그 이교도들을 타작하셨나이다. 12. Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.

13. 주께서 주의 백성의 구원을 위해 곧 주의 기름 부음 받은 자의 구원을 위해 나아가사 그 사악한 자의 집에서 그 기초를 목까지 드러내심으로써 그 머리를 상하게 하셨나이다. 셀라. 13. Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.

14. 주께서 그의 마을들의 머리를 그의 막대기들로 찌르셨나이다. 그들이 회오리바람같이 나와서 나를 흩으려 하며 은밀하게 가난한 자 삼키기를 기뻐하였나이다. 14. Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.

15. 주께서 주의 말들과 더불어 바다 곧 큰 물 더미를 지나며 걸으셨나이다. 15. Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters.

16. 내가 들을 때에 내 배가 떨었으며 그 목소리로 말미암아 내 입술이 떨렸도다. 썩게 하는 것이 내 뼈 속으로 들어오매 내가 내 속에서 떨었나니 이것은 고난의 날에 내가 안식하려 함이라. 그가 백성에게로 올라올 때에 자기 군대로 그들을 침략하리라. 16. When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.

17. ¶ 비록 무화과나무가 꽃을 피우지 못하고 포도나무에 열매가 없으며 올리브나무에 수고의 열매가 없고 밭이 먹을 것을 내지 아니하며 우리에서 양 떼가 끊어지고 외양간에 소 떼가 없을지라도 17. ¶ Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18. 나는 여전히 {주}를 기뻐하며 내 구원의 하나님을 기뻐하리로다. 18. Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19. {주} 하나님은 나의 힘이시니 그분께서 나의 발을 암사슴의 발 같게 하사 나를 나의 높은 곳들에서 다니게 하시리로다. 이 노래는 내 현악기들에 맞추어 우두머리 노래하는 자에게 준 것이니라. 19. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

나훔

1장

1. 니느웨에 대한 엄중한 부담 곧 엘고스 사람 나훔의 환상 계시에 관한 책이라. 1. The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

2. 하나님은 질투하는 분이시며 {주}께서는 원수 갚는 분이시니라. {주}께서는 보복하며 격노하는 분이시니 {주}께서는 자신의 대적들에게 보복하시고 자신의 원수들을 위해 진노를 간직하시는도다. 2. God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

3. {주}께서는 분노하기를 더디 하시고 권능이 크시며 사악한 자를 결코 사면하지 아니하시리로다. {주}께서는 회오리바람과 폭풍우 속에 자신의 길을 두시며 구름들은 그분 발의 티끌이로다. 3. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

4. 그분께서 바다를 꾸짖어 마르게 하시고 모든 강을 말리시니 바산과 갈멜이 쇠하며 레바논의 꽃이 시드는도다. 4. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.

5. 그분으로 말미암아 산들이 흔들리고 작은 산들이 녹으며 그분 앞에서 땅이 불타나니 참으로 세상과 그 안에 거하는 모든 것이 그러하도다. 5. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

6. 누가 능히 그분의 격노 앞에 서리요? 누가 능히 그분의 맹렬한 분노 가운데 거하리요? 그분의 격노가 불같이 쏟아졌고 그분으로 말미암아 바위들이 무너져 내렸도다. 6. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

7. {주}께서는 선하시고 고난의 날에 강한 요새가 되시나니 그분은 자신을 신뢰하는 자들을 아시느니라. 7. The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

8. 그러나 그분께서는 넘쳐 나는 큰물로 거기의 처소를 철저히 끝내시고 자신의 원수들을 어둠으로 추격하시리라. 8. But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

9. 너희가 {주}를 대적하려고 무슨 일을 꾀하느냐? 그분께서 철저히 끝을 내시리니 고통이 두 번 다시 일어나지 아니하리라. 9. What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

10. 그들이 가시나무들같이 함께 엉켜 있고 술 취한 자들같이 취해 있는 동안에 완전히 마른 지푸라기같이 소멸되리라. 10. For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

11. 악을 꾀하여 {주}를 대적하는 한 사람이 네게서 나오나니 곧 사악한 조언자라. 11. There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counsellor.

12. {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 그들이 비록 평안하고 또한 많을지라도 그가 지나갈 때에 이같이 그들이 베어져서 쓰러지리라. 내가 비록 너를 괴롭혔을지라도 다시는 너를 괴롭히지 아니하리니 12. Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

13. 이제 내가 네게서 그의 멍에를 꺾고 네 결박을 부수리라. 13. For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

14. {주}가 너에 관하여 명령을 내렸은즉 다시는 네 이름이 전파되지 아니하리라. 내가 네 신들의 집에서 새긴 형상과 부어 만든 형상을 끊으며 네 무덤을 만들리라. 이는 네가 비열하기 때문이라. 14. And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

15. 보라, 좋은 소식을 가져오며 화평을 널리 알리는 자의 발이 산들 위에 있도다! 오 유다야, 네 엄숙한 명절들을 지키고 네 서원을 이행하라. 그 사악한 자가 완전히 끊어져서 다시는 너를 지나가지 아니하리라. 15. Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

2장

1. 산산조각 부수는 자가 네 얼굴 앞에 올라왔으니 요새를 지키고 길을 감시하며 네 허리를 강하게 하고 네 힘을 심히 강하게 할지어다. 1. He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

2. {주}께서 이스라엘의 뛰어남을 외면하신 것 같이 야곱의 뛰어남을 외면하셨으니 비우는 자들이 그들을 비웠고 그들의 포도나무 가지를 못 쓰게 하였느니라. 2. For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

3. 그의 용사들의 방패는 붉게 되고 그 용맹한 자들은 주홍색 옷을 입었도다. 그가 예비하는 날에 병거들은 불 뿜는 횃불을 갖추고 전나무들은 무섭게 흔들리리로다. 3. The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.

4. 병거들이 거리에서 맹위를 떨치고 넓은 길에서 서로 밀치며 나아가리니 그것들이 횃불같이 보이며 그것들이 번개같이 달려가리라. 4. The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

5. 그가 자기의 훌륭한 자들을 나열하리니 그들이 걷는 가운데 걸려 넘어지며 급히 그곳의 성벽에 이르러 방어할 것을 예비하리로다. 5. He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.

6. 강들의 문들이 열리고 궁궐이 해체되며 6. The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

7. 훗삽은 포로로 끌려가고 이끌려 가리니 그녀의 시녀들이 가슴을 치면서 비둘기 소리를 내며 그녀를 인도하리라. 7. And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

8. 오직 니느웨는 옛적부터 물이 모인 연못 같으나 그들이 도망하리라. 그들이 외쳐 말하기를, 서라, 서라, 하여도 아무도 뒤를 돌아보지 아니하리라. 8. But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.

9. 너희는 은을 노략하고 금을 노략하라. 그 저축한 것이 끝이 없고 모든 아름다운 가구에서 나오는 영광이 끝이 없도다. 9. Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

10. 그녀가 텅 비고 비어 피폐하게 되었도다. 마음이 녹으매 무릎들이 서로 부딪히며 모든 허리에 큰 고통이 있고 그들의 얼굴이 다 검게 되는도다. 10. She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

11. 사자들의 거처가 어디이며 젊은 사자들의 먹는 곳이 어디이냐? 전에는 사자 곧 늙은 사자와 그 사자의 새끼가 거기서 거닐되 아무도 그것들을 두렵게 하지 못하였으며 11. Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?

12. 그 사자가 자기 새끼들을 위해 먹이를 충분히 갈기갈기 찢고 자기의 암사자들을 위해 먹이의 목을 조르며 또 자기 구멍을 먹이로, 자기 굴을 강탈한 것으로 채웠도다. 12. The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

13. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 보라, 내가 너를 대적하노라. 내가 그녀의 병거들을 연기 속에서 불태우고 네 젊은 사자들을 칼로 삼키며 또 내가 네 먹이를 땅에서 끊으리니 네 사자(使者)들의 목소리가 다시는 들리지 아니하리라. 13. Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

1. 피 흘리는 도시에 화가 있을지어다! 그것은 전체가 거짓과 강탈로 가득하며 탈취가 떠나지 아니하는도다. 1. Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;

2. 채찍질하는 소리와 바퀴들의 덜컥거리는 소리와 말들의 달려가는 소리와 병거들의 뛰는 소리로다. 2. The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

3. 기병이 빛나는 칼과 번쩍이는 창을 들어 올린즉 거기에 살육 당한 무리가 있으며 수많은 사체가 있고 그들의 송장들이 끝이 없어 그들이 그들의 송장들에 걸려 넘어지나니 3. The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

4. 이는 마술의 여주인 곧 잘생긴 창녀가 많은 행음을 벌였기 때문이라. 그녀가 자기의 행음으로 민족들을 팔며 자기의 마술로 가족들을 파느니라. 4. Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

5. 만군의 {주}가 말하노라. 보라, 내가 너를 대적하노라. 내가 네 옷자락을 네 얼굴 위로 들추어 올려 그 민족들에게 네 벌거벗은 것을 보이며 그 왕국들에게 네 수치를 보일 것이요, 5. Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

6. 또 내가 가증하고 더러운 것을 네 위에 던져 너를 비천하게 하며 구경거리로 세우리니 6. And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

7. 너를 바라보는 모든 자들이 네게서 도망하며 이르기를, 니느웨가 피폐하게 되었은즉 누가 그녀를 위해 애곡하리요? 내가 어디서 너를 위해 위로할 자들을 구하리요? 하리라. 7. And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

8. 네가 사람이 많이 거하는 노보다 나으냐? 노는 강들 가운데 놓여서 물들이 그것의 사방을 둘렀으므로 바다가 노의 방벽이 되었고 그것의 성벽은 바다에서부터 시작되었느니라. 8. Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?

9. 에티오피아와 이집트가 그녀의 힘이 되매 그것이 끝이 없었으며 붓과 룹이 너를 돕는 자가 되었도다. 9. Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

10. 그럼에도 그녀가 끌려가서 포로가 되매 그녀의 어린아이들도 모든 거리의 꼭대기에서 내던져져서 산산조각 났으며 그들이 그녀의 존귀한 자들을 두고 제비를 뽑았고 그녀의 모든 큰 자는 사슬에 결박되었도다. 10. Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

11. 너도 술 취하여 숨을 것이요, 너도 그 원수로 인하여 힘을 구하리라. 11. Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

12. 네 모든 강한 요새는 처음 익은 무화과들이 달린 무화과나무들 같도다. 그것들을 흔들면 그것들이 먹는 자의 입으로 떨어지리라. 12. All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

13. 보라, 네 한가운데 있는 네 백성은 여자들이니라. 네 땅의 성문들은 네 원수들을 향해 넓게 열려 있으니 불이 네 빗장들을 삼키리라. 13. Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

14. 너는 물을 길어 에워싸일 것을 대비하고 네 강한 요새들을 견고하게 하며 진흙에 들어가서 반죽을 밟아 벽돌 가마를 튼튼하게 하라. 14. Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

15. 거기서 불이 너를 삼키며 칼이 너를 끊되 그것이 자벌레처럼 너를 먹어치우리라. 너는 자벌레같이 네 자신을 많이 불어나게 할지어다. 너는 메뚜기같이 네 자신을 많이 불어나게 할지어다. 15. There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

16. 네가 네 상인들을 하늘의 별들보다 많게 하였으나 자벌레가 노략하고 날아가는도다. 16. Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.

17. 관을 쓴 너의 사람들은 메뚜기들 같고 너의 대장들은 큰 메뚜기들 같도다. 추운 날에는 그것들이 울타리에 진을 치나 해가 뜨면 도망하므로 그것들이 있는 곳 즉 그것들의 처소를 알 수 없느니라. 17. Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

18. 오 아시리아 왕이여, 네 목자들은 잠자고 네 고귀한 자들은 티끌 속에 거하며 네 백성은 산들 위에서 흩어지나 아무도 그들을 모으지 아니하는도다. 18. Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.

19. 네 상처는 치유할 수 없고 네 부상은 심하도다. 네 소문을 듣는 모든 자가 너로 말미암아 손뼉을 치리니 이는 네 사악함이 항상 그들 위로 지나갔기 때문이 아니냐? 19. There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?

1. 유다 왕 요담과 아하스와 히스기야 시대에 모레셋 사람 미가에게 임한 {주}의 말씀 곧 그가 사마리아와 예루살렘에 관하여 본 말씀이라. 1. The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

2. 너희 모든 백성들아, 들을지어다. 오 땅과 그 안에 있는 모든 것들아, 귀를 기울일지어다. [주] {하나님} 곧 자신의 거룩한 전에서 나오시는 [주]께서 너희를 대적하는 증인이 되시리로다. 2. Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

3. 보라, {주}께서 자신의 처소에서 나오시고 내려오사 땅의 높은 곳들을 밟으시리니 3. For, behold, the LORD cometh forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth.

4. 산들이 그분 밑에서 녹고 골짜기들이 갈라지되 불 앞의 밀초같이, 가파른 곳에 쏟아진 물들같이 그리되리라. 4. And the mountains shall be molten under him, and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as the waters that are poured down a steep place.

5. 이것은 다 야곱의 범법으로 인함이요, 이스라엘의 집의 죄들로 인함이라. 야곱의 범법이 무엇이냐? 사마리아가 아니냐? 유다의 산당들이 무엇이냐? 예루살렘이 아니냐? 5. For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem?

6. 그러므로 내가 사마리아를 들의 돌무더기 같게 하고 포도원을 세울 동산 같게 하며 또 그것의 돌들을 골짜기에 쏟아 붓고 그것의 기초들을 드러내리라. 6. Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof.

7. 그것의 모든 새긴 형상이 두들겨 맞아 산산조각 나며 그것의 모든 품삯이 불타겠고 또 그것의 모든 우상을 내가 황폐하게 하리니 이는 그녀가 창녀의 품삯으로 그것을 모았기 때문이라. 그런즉 그것들이 창녀의 품삯으로 되돌아가리라. 7. And all the graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate: for she gathered it of the hire of an harlot, and they shall return to the hire of an harlot.

8. 그러므로 내가 통곡하며 울부짖고 벌거벗은 채 벗은 몸으로 다니며 용들같이 통곡하고 올빼미들같이 애곡하리라. 8. Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the dragons, and mourning as the owls.

9. 그녀의 상처는 고칠 수 없도다. 그것이 유다에까지 이르렀으며 그가 내 백성의 성문 곧 예루살렘에까지 이르렀도다. 9. For her wound is incurable; for it is come unto Judah; he is come unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.

10. ¶ 너희는 그것을 가드에서 밝히 알리지 말며 결코 울지도 말고 아브라의 집에서 네 몸을 티끌에 굴릴지어다. 10. ¶ Declare ye it not at Gath, weep ye not at all: in the house of Aphrah roll thyself in the dust.

11. 너 사빌의 거주민아, 네가 네 수치를 벌거벗겨 드러내었으니 너희는 사라질지어다. 사아난의 거주민은 벧에셀이 애곡하는 가운데 나아오지 못하였으니 그가 너희에게서 자기의 설 곳을 받으리라. 11. Pass ye away, thou inhabitant of Saphir, having thy shame naked: the inhabitant of Zaanan came not forth in the mourning of Beth-ezel; he shall receive of you his standing.

12. 마롯의 거주민이 염려하며 복을 기다렸으나 재앙이 {주}로부터 내려와 예루살렘 성문에 이르렀도다. 12. For the inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem.

13. 오 라기스의 거주민아, 너는 빠른 짐승에게 병거를 맬지어다. 라기스는 시온의 딸에게 죄의 시작이 되나니 이스라엘의 범법들이 네 안에서 발견되었느니라. 13. O thou inhabitant of Lachish, bind the chariot to the swift beast: she is the beginning of the sin to the daughter of Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee.

14. 그러므로 네가 모레셋가드에게 예물들을 주리니 악십의 집들이 이스라엘의 왕들에게 거짓말이 되리라. 14. Therefore shalt thou give presents to Moresheth-gath: the houses of Achzib shall be a lie to the kings of Israel.

15. 오 마레사의 거주민아, 그러할지라도 내가 상속자를 네게로 데려오리니 그가 이스라엘의 영광인 아둘람에 이르리라. 15. Yet will I bring an heir unto thee, O inhabitant of Mareshah: he shall come unto Adullam the glory of Israel.

16. 너는 네 아름다운 자녀들로 인하여 네 머리털을 짧게 깎아 대머리가 되게 할지어다. 네 대머리를 독수리같이 크게 할지어다. 그들이 너를 떠나 포로가 되어 갔느니라. 16. Make thee bald, and poll thee for thy delicate children; enlarge thy baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee.

2장

1. 자기 침상에서 불법을 꾀하며 악을 행하는 자들에게 화가 있을지어다! 그 일이 그들의 손의 권세 안에 있으므로 아침이 빛을 발하면 그들이 그 일을 실행하는도다. 1. Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.

2. 그들이 밭들을 탐하여 폭력으로 그것들을 취하고 집들을 탐하여 그것들을 빼앗나니 이와 같이 그들이 사람과 그의 집을 억압하되 곧 사람과 그의 유산을 억압하는도다. 2. And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

3. 그러므로 {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 보라, 내가 이 가족을 치려고 한 재앙을 계획하노라. 그 재앙으로부터 너희가 너희 목을 움직이지 못하며 또한 거만하게 다니지 못하리니 이는 이때가 악하기 때문이니라. 3. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil.

4. ¶ 그 날에 사람이 비유를 지어 너희를 대적하며 매우 슬픈 애가로 애가를 지어 이르기를, 우리가 철저히 노략을 당하였도다. 그분께서 내 백성의 몫을 바꾸어 놓으셨도다. 그분께서 어찌 그리 그것을 옮기사 내게서 떠나게 하셨는가! 그분께서 돌이키사 우리의 밭을 나누셨도다. 4. ¶ In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.

5. 그러므로 {주}의 회중 가운데서 제비를 뽑아 줄을 던질 자가 네게 하나도 없으리라. 5. Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.

6. 그들이 대언하는 자들에게 이르기를, 너희는 대언하지 말라, 하나니 그들은 그들에게 대언하지 말며 이로써 수치를 당하지 말지니라. 6. Prophesy ye not, say they to them that prophesy: they shall not prophesy to them, that they shall not take shame.

7. ¶ 오 너 야곱의 집이라는 이름을 가진 자야, {주}의 영이 제약을 받느냐? 이 일들이 그가 행한 바냐? 내 말들이 곧바르게 걷는 자에게 선을 베풀지 아니하느냐? 7. ¶ O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?

8. 심지어 최근에는 내 백성이 원수처럼 일어났나니 너희가 전쟁을 미워하고 안전하게 지나가는 자들로부터 겉옷과 속옷을 벗기며 8. Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.

9. 내 백성의 여인들을 그들의 즐거운 집에서 쫓아내고 그들의 자녀들에게서 내 영광을 영원히 빼앗아 갔도다. 9. The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever.

10. 이것은 너희가 안식할 곳이 아니니 너희는 일어나 떠날지어다. 그것이 더러워졌으므로 너희를 멸하되 극심한 멸망으로 그리하리라. 10. Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction.

11. 사람이 만일 영과 거짓 속에서 걸으며 거짓말하여 이르기를, 내가 포도주와 독주에 대해 네게 대언하리라, 할 것 같으면 그가 심지어 이 백성의 대언자가 되리로다. 11. If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

12. ¶ 오 야곱아, 내가 반드시 네 모든 사람을 모으며 내가 반드시 이스라엘의 남은 자를 모으고 보스라의 양들같이, 그들의 우리 한가운데 있는 양 떼같이 그들을 함께 두리니 사람이 많으므로 그들이 큰 소리를 내리라. 12. ¶ I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men.

13. 부수는 자가 그들 앞에 올라왔은즉 그들이 이미 부수어 열고 성문을 지나 그것의 곁으로 나갔으며 그들의 왕은 그들 앞에 가고 {주}는 그들의 선두에 서리라. 13. The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.

3장

1. 또 내가 말하였노라. 오 야곱의 우두머리들아, 이스라엘의 집 통치자들아, 청하건대 너희는 들을지어다. 너희가 판단의 공의를 알아야 하지 아니하겠느냐? 1. And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?

2. 너희가 선을 미워하고 악을 사랑하여 그들에게서 가죽을 벗겨 내고 그들의 뼈에서 살을 뜯어내며 2. Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

3. 또 내 백성의 살을 먹고 그들에게서 가죽을 벗겨 내나니 그들이 냄비와 솥에 담을 고기처럼 저들의 뼈들을 꺾어 조각조각 자르는도다. 3. Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

4. 그때에 그들이 {주}에게 부르짖을지라도 그가 그들의 말을 듣지 아니하고 그들이 자기들의 행위들로 스스로 악하게 행한 것 같이 그때에 그가 그들에게 심지어 자신의 얼굴을 숨기리라. 4. Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

5. ¶ 내 백성으로 하여금 잘못하게 하는 대언자들은 자기들의 이로 물면서도 외치기는, 평안하다, 하며 또 자기들의 입에 넣어 주지 아니하는 자를 향하여는 전쟁을 예비하거니와 이런 대언자들에 관하여 {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 5. ¶ Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

6. 그러므로 밤이 너희에게 이르리니 너희가 환상 계시를 갖지 못할 것이요, 그것이 너희에게 어둡게 되리니 이로써 너희가 점을 치지 못하리라. 그 대언자들 위로 해가 지므로 그들 위에서 낮이 어둡게 되리라. 6. Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.

7. 그런즉 선견자들이 부끄러워하며 점치는 자들이 당황할 것이요, 참으로 그들이 다 자기 입술을 가리리니 이는 하나님의 응답이 없기 때문이라. 7. Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.

8. ¶ 그러나 진실로 나는 {주}의 영으로 말미암아 권능과 판단의 공의와 능력으로 충만하여 야곱에게는 그의 범법을, 이스라엘에게는 그의 죄를 밝히 알리리라. 8. ¶ But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

9. 야곱의 집 우두머리들과 이스라엘의 집 통치자들 곧 판단의 공의를 몹시 싫어하고 모든 공평을 굽게 하는 자들아, 청하노니 너희는 이 말을 들을지어다. 9. Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.

10. 그들이 시온을 피로, 예루살렘을 불법으로 건축하는도다. 10. They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.

11. 그것의 우두머리들은 대가를 바라고 재판하며 그것의 제사장들은 품삯을 바라고 가르치며 그것의 대언자들은 돈을 바라고 점을 치면서도 그들이 여전히 {주}를 의지하여 말하기를, {주}께서 우리 가운데 계시지 아니하냐? 어떤 재앙도 우리에게 임하지 못하리라, 하는도다. 11. The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.

12. 그런즉 너희로 인하여 시온은 밭같이 쟁기로 갈리고 예루살렘은 돌무더기같이 되며 그 집의 산은 숲의 높은 곳과 같이 되리라. 12. Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

1. 그러나 마지막 날들에 {주}의 집의 산이 산들의 꼭대기에 굳게 세워지며 작은 산들 위로 높여지리니 백성들이 그곳으로 흘러들리라. 1. But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

2. 많은 민족들이 오며 이르기를, 오라. 우리가 {주}의 산에 오르고 야곱의 하나님의 집에 이르자. 그분께서 자신의 길들을 우리에게 가르치실 터인즉 우리가 그분의 행로들로 걸으리라, 하리니 이는 법이 시온에서 나아가며 {주}의 말씀이 예루살렘으로부터 나아갈 것이기 때문이라. 2. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

3. ¶ 그가 많은 백성들 가운데서 심판하며 멀리 있는 강한 민족들을 꾸짖으리니 그들이 자기들의 칼을 쳐서 보습을 만들고 자기들의 창을 쳐서 가지 치는 낫을 만들리라. 민족이 민족을 치려고 칼을 들지 아니하며 그들이 다시는 전쟁을 배우지 아니하고 3. ¶ And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

4. 오직 각 사람이 자기의 포도나무와 무화과나무 밑에 앉으리라. 아무도 그들을 두렵게 하지 못하리니 만군의 {주}의 입이 그것을 말하였느니라. 4. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.

5. 모든 백성들이 각각 자기 신의 이름으로 걷되 오직 우리는 {주} 우리 하나님의 이름으로 영원무궁토록 걸으리로다. 5. For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

6. {주}가 말하노라. 그 날에는 내가 다리 저는 여자를 모으고 쫓겨난 여자를 모으며 또 내가 괴롭게 한 여자를 모아 6. In that day, saith the LORD, will I assemble her that halteth, and I will gather her that is driven out, and her that I have afflicted;

7. 다리 절던 여자를 남은 자가 되게 하며 쫓겨난 여자를 강한 민족이 되게 하고 {주}가 이제부터 심지어 영원토록 시온 산에서 그들을 통치하리라. 7. And I will make her that halted a remnant, and her that was cast far off a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.

8. ¶ 오 너 양 떼의 망대요, 시온의 딸의 강한 요새여, 심지어 처음의 통치 권세가 네게 이를 것이요, 왕국이 예루살렘의 딸에게 이르리로다. 8. ¶ And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.

9. 이제 네가 어찌하여 크게 부르짖느냐? 네 안에 왕이 없느냐? 네 조언자가 멸망하였느냐? 산고를 겪는 여인에게 임하는 것 같은 산통이 너를 엄습하였도다. 9. Now why dost thou cry out aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail.

10. 오 시온의 딸아, 산고를 겪는 여인같이 고통을 당하며 낳으려고 수고할지어다. 이제 네가 그 도시에서 나아가 들에 거하고 또 심지어 바빌론에까지 가서 거기서 구출을 받으리니 거기서 {주}가 너를 네 원수들의 손에서 구속하리라. 10. Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

11. ¶ 이제 또한 많은 민족들이 모여서 너를 치며 이르기를, 시온을 더럽게 하고 우리 눈으로 시온을 바라보자, 하거니와 11. ¶ Now also many nations are gathered against thee, that say, Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion.

12. 그들은 {주}의 생각들을 알지 못하며 그의 계획을 깨닫지 못하느니라. 곡식 단을 타작마당에 모음같이 그가 그들을 모으리라. 12. But they know not the thoughts of the LORD, neither understand they his counsel: for he shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor.

13. 오 시온의 딸아, 일어나서 타작할지어다. 내가 네 뿔을 쇠 같게 하고 네 굽을 놋 같게 하리니 네가 많은 백성들을 쳐서 산산조각 내리라. 내가 그들이 얻은 것을 거룩히 구분하여 {주}에게 드리며 또 그들의 재물을 온 땅의 [주]에게 거룩히 구분하여 드리리라. 13. Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: for I will make thine horn iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I will consecrate their gain unto the LORD, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth.

5장

1. 오 군대들의 딸아, 이제 너는 군대들을 형성하여 모일지어다. 그가 우리를 치려고 에워쌌으니 그들이 막대기로 이스라엘의 재판관의 뺨을 치리로다. 1. Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

2. 그러나 너 베들레헴 에브라다야, 네가 유다의 수천 가운데서 작을지라도 이스라엘에서 치리자가 될 자가 네게서 내게로 나아오리라. 그의 나아감은 옛적부터 있었으며 영원부터 있었느니라. 2. But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

3. 그러므로 산고를 겪는 그녀가 출산할 때까지 그가 그들을 내주리라. 그 뒤에 그의 형제들 중의 남은 자들이 이스라엘 자손에게로 돌아오리라. 3. Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

4. ¶ 또 그가 {주}의 능력과 {주} 자기 하나님의 이름의 위엄으로 서서 먹이리니 그들이 머물리로다. 이제 그가 크게 되어 땅 끝까지 이르리로다. 4. ¶ And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

5. 이 사람은 화평이 되리라. 그 아시리아 사람이 우리 땅에 들어와 우리의 궁궐에서 밟을 때에는 우리가 그를 치려고 일곱 명의 목자와 여덟 명의 우두머리를 일으키리니 5. And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

6. 그들이 칼로 아시리아 땅을 황폐하게 하며 니므롯 땅의 어귀에서 그 땅을 피폐하게 하리라. 그 아시리아 사람이 우리 땅에 들어와 우리 경계 안에서 밟을 때에는 그가 이같이 우리를 그에게서 건져 내리라. 6. And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

7. 또 야곱의 남은 자들은 {주}로부터 내려오는 이슬처럼, 사람을 기다리지 아니하고 사람들의 아들들을 기다리지 아니하며 풀 위에 떨어지는 소나기처럼 많은 백성들의 한가운데 있으리라. 7. And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.

8. ¶ 또 야곱의 남은 자들은 숲의 짐승들 가운데 있는 사자처럼, 양 떼들 가운데 있는 젊은 사자처럼 많은 백성들의 한가운데서 이방인들 가운데 있으리라. 그런즉 그가 지나가면 짓밟고 갈기갈기 찢으리니 아무도 능히 건져 내지 못하리라. 8. ¶ And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.

9. 네 손이 네 대적들 위로 들려져서 네 모든 원수를 끊으리로다. 9. Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.

10. {주}가 말하노라. 그 날에는 내가 네 말들을 네 한가운데서 끊고 네 병거들을 멸하며 10. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:

11. 네 땅의 도시들을 끊고 네 모든 강한 요새를 무너뜨리며 11. And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:

12. 또 내가 마술을 네 손에서 끊으리니 네게 다시는 점쟁이가 없으리로다. 12. And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:

13. 내가 또한 너의 새긴 형상들과 서 있는 형상들을 네 한가운데서 끊으리니 네가 다시는 네 손으로 만든 것에게 경배하지 아니하리라. 13. Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.

14. 내가 너의 작은 숲들을 네 한가운데서 뽑아내고 또 그와 같이 네 도시들도 멸하리라. 14. And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.

15. 내가 이교도들 곧 내 말을 듣지 아니한 자들에게 분노와 격노로 원수 갚는 일을 집행하리라. 15. And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.

6장

1. 너희는 이제 {주}께서 말씀하시는 것을 들을지어다. 너는 일어나 산들 앞에서 다투며 작은 산들이 네 목소리를 듣게 하라, 하셨나니 1. Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

2. 오 산들아, 땅의 강한 기초들아, 너희는 {주}께서 논쟁하시는 것을 들으라. {주}께서 자신의 백성과 논쟁하시며 이스라엘과 변론하시리라. 2. Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD'S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

3. 이르시되, 오 내 백성아, 내가 네게 무엇을 행하였느냐? 무슨 일로 내가 너를 지치게 하였느냐? 내게 증언하라. 3. O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

4. 내가 너를 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나오고 종들의 집에서 너를 구속하며 네 앞에 모세와 아론과 미리암을 보내었느니라. 4. For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

5. 오 내 백성아, 시팀에서 길갈에 이르기까지 모압 왕 발락이 의논한 것과 브올의 아들 발람이 그에게 대답한 것을 이제 기억할지니 이것은 너희가 {주}의 의를 알게 하려 함이니라. 5. O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD.

6. ¶ 내가 무엇을 가지고 {주} 앞에 가며 높으신 하나님 앞에서 절을 할까? 내가 번제 헌물과 일 년 된 송아지를 가지고 그분 앞에 갈까? 6. ¶ Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

7. {주}께서 수천의 숫양이나 수만의 강물 같은 기름을 기뻐하실까? 내가 내 범법으로 인하여 내 맏아들을, 내 혼의 죄로 인하여 내 몸의 열매를 드릴까? 7. Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8. 오 사람아, 그분께서 무엇이 선한 것인지 네게 보이셨나니 {주}께서 네게 요구하시는 것은 오직 의롭게 행하고 긍휼을 사랑하며 겸손하게 네 하나님과 함께 걷는 것이 아니냐? 8. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

9. {주}의 음성이 도시를 향하여 부르짖는도다. 지혜로운 자는 주의 이름을 보리이다. 너희는 매 소리를 들으며 그것을 정하신 이의 말을 들으라. 9. The LORD'S voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

10. ¶ 사악한 자의 집에 아직도 사악한 보물이 있으며 부족하여 가증한 되가 있느냐? 10. ¶ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?

11. 내가 사악한 저울과 속이는 추를 담은 자루를 지니고 다니는 자들을 깨끗하다 하겠느냐? 11. Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

12. 그곳의 부자들은 폭력으로 가득하고 그곳의 거주민들은 거짓을 말하며 그들의 혀는 그들의 입에서 속임수로 가득하니 12. For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

13. 그러므로 나도 너를 쳐서 병들게 하고 네 죄들로 인하여 너를 황폐하게 하리라. 13. Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

14. 네가 먹어도 만족하지 못하고 네 한가운데서 내던져지며 네가 굳게 붙잡아도 건지지 못하리니 네가 건지는 것을 내가 칼에 내주리라. 14. Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.

15. 네가 씨를 뿌려도 거두지 못하고 올리브를 밟아도 기름을 네 몸에 바르지 못하며 단 포도즙이 있어도 포도즙을 마시지 못하리라. 15. Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.

16. ¶ 너희가 오므리의 법규와 아합의 집의 모든 행위를 지키고 그들의 조언대로 걷나니 그런즉 내가 너를 황폐하게 하며 그곳의 거주민들을 조롱거리가 되게 하리로다. 그러므로 너희가 내 백성의 치욕을 담당하리라. 16. ¶ For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

7장

1. 내게 화가 있도다! 내가 그들이 여름 과일을 거둔 때와 포도 수확기에 포도를 거둔 때같이 되어 먹을 포도송이가 없도다. 내 혼이 처음 익은 과일을 사모하였노라. 1. Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grapegleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the firstripe fruit.

2. 선한 사람이 땅에서 사라졌고 곧바른 자가 사람들 가운데 하나도 없도다. 그들이 다 피를 흘리려고 숨어 기다리며 저마다 자기 형제를 그물로 잡는도다. 2. The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

3. ¶ 또 그들이 두 손으로 열심히 악을 행하나니 통치자와 재판관은 대가를 요구하며 큰 자는 자기의 악한 욕심을 말하여 이처럼 그들이 그것을 싸서 감추느니라. 3. ¶ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.

4. 그들 중에 가장 선한 자가 찔레 같고 가장 곧바른 자가 가시 울타리보다 날카롭도다. 네 파수꾼들의 날 곧 너를 징벌하는 날이 이르나니 이제는 그들이 당황하리로다. 4. The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.

5. ¶ 너희는 친구를 신뢰하지 말고 안내자를 신임하지 말며 네 품에 눕는 여인에게라도 네 입의 문들을 지킬지어다. 5. ¶ Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

6. 아들이 아버지를 욕되게 하며 딸이 일어나 자기 어머니를, 며느리가 일어나 자기 시어머니를 대적하나니 사람의 원수들이 자기 집 사람들이로다. 6. For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

7. 그러므로 나는 {주}를 바라보며 내 구원의 하나님을 기다리리니 내 하나님께서 내 말을 들으시리로다. 7. Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

8. ¶ 오 내 원수야, 나를 치며 기뻐하지 말지어다. 나는 쓰러질지라도 일어날 것이요, 어둠 속에 앉을지라도 {주}께서 나를 위하여 빛이 되시리로다. 8. ¶ Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

9. 내가 {주}께 죄를 지었으므로 그분의 격노를 담당하려니와 마침내 그분께서 내 사정을 변호하시고 나를 위하여 심판을 집행하시며 또 나를 빛으로 데려가시리니 내가 그분의 의를 보리로다. 9. I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

10. 그때에 내 원수인 여자가 그것을 보고 수치로 자기 몸을 덮을 터인데 그녀는 전에 내게 말하기를, {주} 네 하나님이 어디 있느냐? 하던 여자니라. 내 눈이 그녀를 바라보리니 이제 그녀가 거리의 진흙같이 짓밟히리라. 10. Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

11. 네 성벽을 건축하는 날 곧 그 날에는 그 칙령이 멀리 옮겨질 것이요, 11. In the day that thy walls are to be built, in that day shall the decree be far removed.

12. 또한 그 날에는 그가 아시리아에서, 견고한 도시들에서 네게로 오며 또 요새에서 심지어 강에 이르기까지, 바다에서 바다에 이르기까지, 산에서 산에 이르기까지 올 것이로되 12. In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.

13. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 땅은 그 안에 거하는 자들과 그들의 행위들의 열매로 인하여 황폐하리로다. 13. Notwithstanding the land shall be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.

14. ¶ 주의 막대기로 주의 백성 곧 갈멜의 한가운데서 숲 속에 홀로 거하는 주의 상속 백성 양 떼를 먹이시되 옛날같이 바산과 길르앗에서 그들을 먹이시옵소서. 14. ¶ Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thine heritage, which dwell solitarily in the wood, in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

15. 네가 이집트 땅에서 나오던 날들에 한 것 같이 내가 그에게 놀라운 일들을 보이리라. 15. According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I shew unto him marvellous things.

16. ¶ 민족들이 보고 그들의 모든 힘으로 말미암아 당황하여 자기들의 손을 자기들의 입에 댈 것이요, 그들의 귀가 막히리라. 16. ¶ The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.

17. 그들이 뱀처럼 티끌을 핥고 땅의 벌레들처럼 자기들의 구멍에서 나와 {주} 우리 하나님을 무서워하며 주로 인하여 두려워하리이다. 17. They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of thee.

18. 어떤 [신]이 주와 같으니이까? 주께서는 불법을 용서하시고 자신의 상속 백성 중 남은 자들의 범법을 지나치시나이다. 그분께서는 긍휼을 기뻐하시므로 자신의 분노를 영원토록 품지 아니하시는도다. 18. Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.

19. 그분께서 다시 돌이키시고 우리를 불쌍히 여기시며 우리의 불법들을 누르시리니 주께서 그들의 모든 죄를 바다의 깊음 속에 던지시리이다. 19. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

20. 주께서 옛날부터 우리 조상들에게 맹세하신 대로 야곱에게 진리를 이행하시고 아브라함에게 긍휼을 이행하시리이다. 20. Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

1장

1. 이제 {주}의 말씀이 아밋대의 아들 요나에게 임하니라. 이르시되, 1. Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

2. 일어나 저 큰 도시 니느웨로 가서 그것을 향하여 외치라. 그들의 사악함이 내 앞에 이르렀느니라, 하시니라. 2. Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

3. 그러나 요나가 {주}의 앞을 떠나 다시스로 도망하려고 일어나 욥바로 내려가서 다시스로 가는 배를 만나매 이에 그가 {주}의 앞을 떠나 그들과 함께 다시스로 가려고 뱃삯을 내고 그 안으로 들어가니라. 3. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

4. ¶ 그러나 {주}께서 큰 바람을 바다로 보내시매 바다에 강력한 폭풍이 일어나서 그 배가 거의 부서지게 되었으므로 4. ¶ But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

5. 이에 선원들이 두려워하여 저마다 자기 신에게 부르짖으며 또 배를 가볍게 하려고 그 안에 있던 물건들을 바다로 던지니라. 그러나 요나는 뱃전으로 내려가서 누워 곧 잠이 드니라. 5. Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

6. 그러므로 선장이 그에게 가서 그에게 이르되, 오 잠자는 자여, 어찌 된 일이냐? 일어나 네 하나님을 부르라. 혹시 하나님이 우리를 생각하시면 우리가 망하지 아니하리라, 하니라. 6. So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

7. 또 그들이 저마다 자기 동료에게 이르되, 오라, 우리가 제비를 뽑아 이 재앙이 누구로 인하여 우리에게 임하였는지 알아보자, 하고 이처럼 제비를 뽑으니 제비가 요나에게 떨어지니라. 7. And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

8. 이에 그들이 그에게 이르되, 원하건대 이 재앙이 누구로 인하여 우리에게 임하였는지 우리에게 말하라. 네 직업은 무엇이냐? 너는 어디서 왔느냐? 네 나라는 어디냐? 너는 어느 나라 백성이냐? 하니 8. Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

9. 그가 그들에게 이르되, 나는 히브리 사람으로 바다와 육지를 만드신 {주} 곧 하늘의 하나님을 두려워하노라, 하니라. 9. And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

10. 그때에 요나가 그 사람들에게 말하였으므로 그들이 그가 {주}의 앞을 떠나 도망한 것을 알고 심히 두려워하며 그에게 이르되, 네가 어찌하여 이 일을 행하였느냐? 하니라. 10. Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

11. ¶ 바다가 움직이며 사나워지므로 그때에 그들이 그에게 이르되, 우리가 네게 어떻게 하여야 바다가 우리를 위해 잔잔하겠느냐? 하니 11. ¶ Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

12. 그가 그들에게 이르되, 나를 들어 바다에 던지라. 그리하면 바다가 너희를 위해 잔잔하리라. 나로 인하여 이 큰 폭풍이 너희에게 임한 줄을 내가 아노라, 하니라. 12. And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

13. 그럼에도 불구하고 그 사람들이 힘써 노를 저어 배를 육지로 가져가려 하였으나 바다가 움직이며 그들을 향해 사나워지므로 능히 하지 못하더라. 13. Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.

14. 그러므로 그들이 {주}께 부르짖어 이르되, 오 {주}여, 주께 간청하고 간청하오니 이 사람의 생명으로 인하여 우리가 망하지 않게 하옵소서. 무죄한 피를 우리에게 돌리지 마옵소서. 오 {주}여, 주께서는 친히 기뻐하시는 대로 행하셨나이다, 하고 14. Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

15. 이처럼 요나를 들어 바다에 던지니 바다가 격렬히 뛰놀기를 그치매 15. So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

16. 그때에 그 사람들이 {주}를 심히 두려워하여 {주}께 희생물을 드리고 서원을 하였더라. 16. Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.

17. ¶ 이제 {주}께서 이미 큰 물고기를 예비하사 요나를 삼키게 하시매 요나가 밤낮으로 사흘 동안 그 물고기 배 속에 있었더라. 17. ¶ Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

2장

1. 그때에 요나가 물고기 배 속에서 {주} 자기 하나님께 기도하며 1. Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,

2. 이르되, 내가 내 고난으로 인하여 {주}께 부르짖었더니 그분께서 내 말을 들으셨고 내가 지옥의 배 속에서 부르짖었더니 주께서 내 목소리를 들으셨나이다. 2. And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

3. 주께서 나를 깊음 속으로, 바다들 한가운데로 던지셨으므로 넘치는 큰물이 나를 에워쌌고 주의 모든 큰 물결과 파도가 내 위에 넘쳤나이다. 3. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

4. 그때에 내가 말하기를, 내가 주의 눈앞에서 쫓겨났을지라도 다시 주의 거룩한 전을 바라보리이다, 하였나이다. 4. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

5. 물들이 나를 에워싸되 혼까지 에워쌌으며 깊음이 나를 둘러막고 해초가 내 머리를 감쌌나이다. 5. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

6. 내가 산들의 밑바닥까지 내려갔으며 땅이 자기 빗장들과 함께 영원히 내 곁에 있었사오나, 오 {주} 내 하나님이여, 주께서 내 생명을 썩음에서 끌어올리셨나이다. 6. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

7. 내 혼이 내 속에서 기진할 때에 내가 {주}를 기억하였더니 내 기도가 주께 이르렀으며 주의 거룩한 전에 이르렀나이다. 7. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8. 거짓되고 헛된 것들을 준수하는 자들은 자기들의 긍휼을 버리오나 8. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

9. 나는 감사의 목소리로 주께 희생물을 드리며 내가 서원한 것을 갚겠나이다. 구원은 {주}께 속하나이다, 하니라. 9. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

10. ¶ {주}께서 그 물고기에게 말씀하시매 물고기가 요나를 육지에 토하여 내니라. 10. ¶ And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

3장

1. {주}의 말씀이 두 번째 요나에게 임하니라. 이르시되, 1. And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

2. 일어나 저 큰 도시 니느웨로 가서 내가 네게 명한바 그 선포할 것을 그곳에 선포하라, 하시매 2. Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

3. 이에 요나가 {주}의 말씀대로 일어나 니느웨로 가니라. 이제 니느웨는 사흘 길을 다닐 만큼 심히 큰 도시더라. 3. So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

4. 비로소 요나가 그 도시로 들어가 하루 동안 다니며 외쳐 이르되, 이제 사십 일이 지나면 니느웨가 무너지리라, 하였더라. 4. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

5. ¶ 이에 니느웨 백성이 하나님을 믿고 금식을 선포하며 그들 중에 가장 큰 자로부터 가장 작은 자에 이르기까지 굵은 베옷을 입었고 5. ¶ So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

6. 말이 니느웨 왕에게 이르매 그가 자기 왕좌에서 일어나 자기 몸에서 옷을 벗어 내려놓고는 굵은 베옷으로 몸을 덮고 재 속에 앉았더라. 6. For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7. 또 그가 왕과 왕의 고관들의 칙령으로 니느웨 전역에 선포하고 널리 알리게 하며 이르되, 사람이나 짐승이나 가축 떼나 양 떼나 어떤 것도 맛보지 말지니라. 그들이 먹지도 말고 물을 마시지도 말며 7. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

8. 사람과 짐승이 굵은 베옷을 입고 힘써 하나님께 부르짖으며 참으로 그들이 각각 자기의 악한 길과 자기 손의 폭력에서 떠날지니라. 8. But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

9. 하나님께서 돌아서시고 뜻을 돌이키사 자신의 맹렬한 분노에서 떠나심으로 우리가 멸망하지 아니할지 누가 알겠느냐? 하니라. 9. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10. ¶ 하나님께서 그들이 행한 일 곧 그들이 자기들의 악한 길에서 돌이킨 것을 보시고 재앙 즉 친히 그들에게 행하리라고 말씀하신 그 재앙에서 하나님께서 뜻을 돌이키사 그것을 행하지 아니하시니라. 10. ¶ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

4장

1. 그러나 요나가 그 일을 심히 못마땅하게 여기고 매우 분노하여 1. But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

2. {주}께 기도하며 이르되, 오 {주}여, 간구하오니 내가 아직 내 나라에 있을 때에 내 말이 이러하지 아니하였나이까? 그러므로 내가 먼저 다시스로 도망하였사오니 이는 주께서 은혜로우시며 긍휼이 많으시고 분노하기를 더디 하시며 큰 친절을 베푸사 재앙에서 뜻을 돌이키시는 하나님이신 줄을 내가 알았기 때문이니이다. 2. And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

3. 오 {주}여, 그러므로 이제 간청하오니 내게서 내 생명을 취하소서. 사는 것보다 죽는 것이 내게 더 낫나이다, 하니라. 3. Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

4. ¶ 그때에 {주}께서 이르시되, 네가 분노하는 것이 잘하는 것이냐? 하시니라. 4. ¶ Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

5. 이에 요나가 그 도시에서 나가 그 도시의 동쪽 편에 앉고 거기서 자기를 위하여 초막을 만들고는 마침내 그 도시가 어떻게 되는지 보려고 그 밑의 그늘에 앉았더라. 5. So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

6. {주} 하나님께서 박을 예비하시고 그것이 위로 올라가 요나를 가리게 하셨으니 이것은 그것이 그의 머리 위에서 그늘이 되게 하여 그를 고통에서 건지려 하심이었더라. 이에 요나가 그 박을 심히 기뻐하니라. 6. And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

7. 그러나 하나님께서 그 다음 날 아침이 이를 때에 벌레 한 마리를 예비하사 그것이 박을 쳐서 시들게 하시니라. 7. But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

8. 해가 뜰 때에 하나님께서 뜨거운 동풍을 예비하셨고 또 해가 요나의 머리에 내리쬐매 그가 기진하여 스스로 죽기를 바라며 이르되, 사는 것보다 죽는 것이 내게 더 낫나이다, 하니라. 8. And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

9. 하나님께서 요나에게 이르시되, 네가 그 박으로 인하여 분노하는 것이 잘하는 것이냐? 하시니 그가 이르되, 죽는다 할지라도 내가 분노하는 것이 잘하는 것이니이다, 하니라. 9. And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

10. 그때에 {주}께서 이르시되, 네가 수고하지도 아니하고 자라게 하지도 아니한 박 곧 하룻밤 사이에 났다가 하룻밤 사이에 없어진 그 박을 불쌍히 여겼거든 10. Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

11. 오른손과 왼손을 분간하지 못하는 자가 십이만 명이 넘고 또 많은 가축이 있는 저 큰 도시 니느웨를 내가 아껴야 하지 아니하겠느냐? 하시니라. 11. And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

1장

1. 오바댜의 환상 계시라. [주] {하나님}께서 에돔에 관하여 이같이 말씀하시느니라. 우리가 {주}로부터 한 소문을 들었도다. 한 대사가 이교도들 가운데로 보내어졌는데 그가 말하기를, 너희는 일어날지어다. 우리가 일어나서 에돔을 대적하여 싸우자, 하는도다. 1. The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

2. 보라, 내가 너를 이교도들 가운데서 작게 만들었으므로 네가 크게 멸시를 받는도다. 2. Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.

3. ¶ 바위틈에 거하며 높은 곳에 처소를 둔 자여, 네 마음의 교만이 너를 속였도다. 그자가 마음속으로 이르기를, 누가 나를 땅으로 끌어내리겠느냐? 하는도다. 3. ¶ The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

4. 네가 네 자신을 독수리처럼 높이며 네 보금자리를 별들 가운데 둘지라도 내가 거기서 너를 끌어내리리라. {주}가 말하노라. 4. Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

5. 도둑들이 네게 이르렀고 강도들이 밤에 네게 이르렀다면 그들이 충분히 얻을 때까지만 훔치지 아니하였겠느냐? 포도를 따서 모으는 자들이 네게 이르렀다면 그들이 얼마의 포도는 남기지 아니하였겠느냐? (네가 어찌 그리 끊어졌는가!) 5. If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

6. 그들이 에서의 물건들을 어찌 그리 찾아내었는가! 그가 숨긴 물건들을 어찌 그리 찾았는가! 6. How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!

7. 너와 연합한 모든 사람들이 너를 데려다가 접경 지역에 이르게 하였고 너와 평화롭게 지내던 사람들이 너를 속이고 너를 쳐서 이겼으며 네 빵을 먹는 자들이 네 밑에 상처를 깔아 두었도다. 그에게는 지각이 없도다. 7. All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.

8. {주}가 말하노라. 그 날에 내가 에돔에서 심지어 지혜로운 사람들을 멸하며 에서의 산에서 지각을 멸하지 아니하겠느냐? 8. Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

9. 오 데만아, 네 용사들은 놀랄 것이요, 이로써 에서의 산의 모든 사람이 살육으로 말미암아 끊어지리라. 9. And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

10. ¶ 네가 네 형제 야곱에게 행사한 폭력으로 인하여 수치가 너를 덮고 네가 영원히 끊어지리라. 10. ¶ For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

11. 네가 저편에 서 있던 날 곧 타국인들이 그의 군대를 포로로 사로잡아 가며 외국인들이 그의 성문들로 들어가 예루살렘을 놓고 제비를 뽑던 날에 너도 심지어 그들 중의 하나 같았느니라. 11. In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

12. 그러나 너는 네 형제의 날 곧 그가 낯선 자가 되던 날에 바라만 보지 말았어야 했고 유다 자손이 멸망하던 날에 그들로 인해 기뻐하지 말았어야 했으며 그들이 곤경에 처하던 날에 교만히 말하지 말았어야 했느니라. 12. But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

13. 너는 내 백성이 재난을 당하던 날에 그들의 성문에 들어가지 말았어야 했고 참으로 그들이 재난을 당하던 날에 그들의 고통을 바라만 보지 말았어야 했으며 그들이 재난을 당하던 날에 그들의 재물에 손을 대지 말았어야 했고 13. Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;

14. 네거리에 서서 그에게 속한 자들 중에서 도망한 자들을 끊지 말았어야 했으며 그들이 곤경에 처하던 날에 그에게 속한 자들 중에서 남은 자들을 넘겨주지 말았어야 했느니라. 14. Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.

15. {주}의 날이 모든 이교도들 위에 가까이 이르렀도다. 네가 행한 대로 네게 이루어지리니 너에 대한 보응이 네 머리로 돌아가리라. 15. For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

16. 너희가 내 거룩한 산에서 마신 것 같이 모든 이교도들도 계속해서 마시리니 참으로 그들이 마시고 삼킬 터이므로 저들은 마치 이전에 없었던 것처럼 되리라. 16. For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

17. ¶ 그러나 시온 산 위에는 구출이 있겠고 거룩함이 있을 것이요, 야곱의 집은 자기 소유를 소유하리라. 17. ¶ But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

18. 야곱의 집은 불이 되고 요셉의 집은 불꽃이 되며 에서의 집은 지푸라기가 되리라. 그들이 저들을 불사르고 삼킬 터인즉 에서의 집에 남은 자가 하나도 없으리라. {주}가 그것을 말하였느니라. 18. And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

19. 남쪽에 있는 자들이 에서의 산을 소유하고 평야에 있는 자들이 블레셋 사람들을 소유할 것이요, 또 그들이 에브라임의 들과 사마리아의 들을 소유하고 베냐민은 길르앗을 소유하며 19. And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

20. 포로로 잡혀간 이스라엘 자손들의 이 군대는 가나안 사람들의 땅을 사르밧까지 소유하고 예루살렘의 포로 된 자들 곧 스바랏에 있는 자들은 남쪽의 도시들을 소유하리로다. 20. And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

21. 구원자들이 시온 산 위로 올라와서 에서의 산을 심판하리니 그 왕국이 {주}의 것이 되리로다. 21. And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.

1장

1. 유다 왕 웃시야 시대, 이스라엘 왕 요아스의 아들 여로보암 시대 곧 지진이 있기 이 년 전에 드고아의 가축치는 자들 가운데 거하던 아모스가 이스라엘에 관하여 본 말씀들이라. 1. The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

2. 그가 이르되, {주}께서 시온에서부터 부르짖으시며 예루살렘에서부터 자신의 목소리를 내시리니 목자들의 처소들이 애곡하며 갈멜 산 꼭대기가 시들리로다. 2. And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

3. {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 다마스쿠스의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 쇠 타작 기계로 길르앗을 타작하였기 때문이라. 3. Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:

4. 그러나 내가 하사엘의 집에 불을 보내리니 그것이 벤하닷의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 4. But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.

5. 내가 또한 다마스쿠스의 빗장을 꺾고 아웬 평야에서 거주민을 끊으며 에덴의 집에서 홀(笏) 잡는 자를 끊으리니 시리아의 백성이 포로가 되어 기르에 이르리라. {주}가 말하노라. 5. I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden: and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir, saith the LORD.

6. ¶ {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 가자의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 모든 포로를 포로로 사로잡아 에돔에게 넘겨주었기 때문이라. 6. ¶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:

7. 그러나 내가 가자의 성벽에 불을 보내리니 그것이 거기의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 7. But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:

8. 내가 또 아스돗에서 그 거주민을, 아스글론에서 홀 잡는 자를 끊고 또 내 손을 돌려 에그론을 치리니 블레셋 사람들의 남은 자들이 멸망하리라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 8. And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.

9. ¶ {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 두로의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 모든 포로를 에돔에게 넘겨주고 형제의 언약을 기억하지 아니하였기 때문이라. 9. ¶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:

10. 그러나 내가 두로의 성벽에 불을 보내리니 그것이 거기의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 10. But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.

11. ¶ {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 에돔의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그가 칼을 들고 자기 형제를 쫓아가며 불쌍히 여기는 것을 다 버리고 영구히 분노하여 찢으며 자기의 진노를 영원히 간직하였기 때문이라. 11. ¶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:

12. 그러나 내가 데만에 불을 보내리니 그것이 보스라의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 12. But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

13. ¶ {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 암몬 자손의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 자기 경계를 넓히려고 길르앗의 아이 밴 여인들의 배를 갈랐기 때문이라. 13. ¶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:

14. 그러나 내가 랍바의 성벽에 불을 놓으리니 그것이 전쟁하는 날에 외치는 소리와 회오리바람이 부는 날에 폭풍과 더불어 거기의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 14. But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:

15. 그들의 왕이 곧 그와 그의 통치자들이 함께 포로가 되리라. {주}가 말하노라. 15. And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.

2장

1. {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 모압의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그가 에돔 왕의 뼈를 불태워 석회가 되게 하였기 때문이라. 1. Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:

2. 그러나 내가 모압에 불을 보내리니 그것이 그리욧의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 모압이 떠드는 소리와 외치는 소리와 나팔 소리와 더불어 죽으리라. 2. But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet:

3. 내가 그것의 한가운데서 재판관을 끊으며 그것의 모든 통치자를 그와 함께 죽이리라. {주}가 말하노라. 3. And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith the LORD.

4. ¶ {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 유다의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 {주}의 율법을 멸시하며 그의 명령들을 지키지 아니하고 자기들의 거짓말 곧 자기 조상들이 따라가던 그 거짓말로 말미암아 잘못하였기 때문이라. 4. ¶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after the which their fathers have walked:

5. 그러나 내가 유다에 불을 보내리니 그것이 예루살렘의 궁궐들을 삼키리라. 5. But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

6. ¶ {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 이스라엘의 세 가지 범법 곧 네 가지 범법으로 인하여 내가 그것의 형벌을 돌이키지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 은을 얻기 위해 의로운 자를 팔며 신 한 켤레를 얻기 위해 가난한 자를 팔았기 때문이라. 6. ¶ Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

7. 그들이 가난한 자의 머리 위에 있는 땅의 티끌을 탐내며 온유한 자의 길을 굽게 하고 한 남자와 그의 아버지가 같은 젊은 여자에게로 들어가 내 거룩한 이름을 더럽히려 하며 7. That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane my holy name:

8. 또 모든 제단 옆에서 전당 잡은 옷 위에 스스로 눕고 자기들의 신을 섬기는 집에서 정죄 받은 자들의 포도주를 마시느니라. 8. And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.

9. ¶ 그럼에도 내가 그 아모리 사람을 그들 앞에서 멸하였느니라. 그의 키는 백향목의 높이와 같고 그는 상수리나무같이 강하나 그럼에도 내가 위로부터 그의 열매를 멸하고 아래로부터 그의 뿌리들을 멸하였느니라. 9. ¶ Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

10. 내가 또한 너희를 이집트 땅에서 데리고 나와 사십 년 동안 인도하여 광야를 지나가게 하고 그 아모리 사람의 땅을 소유하게 하였으며 10. Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.

11. 너희 아들들 중에서 대언자들을, 너희 젊은이들 중에서 나사르 사람들을 일으켰나니, 오 너희 이스라엘 자손들아, 그 일이 과연 그렇지 아니하냐? {주}가 말하노라. 11. And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD.

12. 그러나 너희가 나사르 사람들에게 포도즙을 주어 마시게 하고 대언자들에게 명령하여 이르기를, 대언하지 말라, 하였느니라. 12. But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.

13. 보라, 곡식 단을 가득 실은 수레가 눌림같이 내가 너희 밑에서 눌렸나니 13. Behold, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves.

14. 그러므로 빠른 자도 도주하지 못하고 강한 자도 자기 힘을 강하게 하지 못하며 힘센 자도 자신을 건지지 못하고 14. Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:

15. 활을 다루는 자도 서지 못하며 발이 빠른 자도 자신을 건지지 못하고 말을 타는 자도 자신을 건지지 못하며 15. Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself.

16. 용사들 가운데서 용감한 자도 그 날에는 벌거벗은 채 도망하리라. {주}가 말하노라. 16. And he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith the LORD.

3장

1. 오 이스라엘 자손들아, {주}가 너희를 대적하여 이른 이 말을 들으라. 내가 이집트 땅에서 데리고 올라온 온 가족을 대적하여 말하노라. 1. Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

2. 내가 땅의 모든 가족 중에서 너희만을 알았나니 그런즉 내가 너희의 모든 불법으로 인하여 너희를 벌하리라. 2. You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

3. 두 사람이 합의하지 아니하고서야 함께 걸을 수 있겠느냐? 3. Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

4. 사자가 먹이가 없는데 숲 속에서 부르짖겠느냐? 젊은 사자가 아무것도 잡지 못하였으면 자기 굴에서 소리를 지르겠느냐? 4. Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

5. 새를 잡는 덫이 없는 곳에서 새가 올무에 걸려 땅에 떨어질 수 있겠느냐? 사람이 아무것도 잡지 못하였는데 덫을 땅에서 집어 올리겠느냐? 5. Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

6. 도시에서 나팔을 부는데 백성이 두려워하지 아니하겠느냐? {주}가 행하지 아니하였는데 도시에 재앙이 있겠느냐? 6. Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

7. 분명히 [주] {하나님}은 자신의 은밀한 일을 자신의 종 대언자들에게 계시하지 아니하고는 아무것도 행하지 아니하느니라. 7. Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8. 사자가 부르짖은즉 누가 두려워하지 아니하겠느냐? [주] {하나님}이 말하였은즉 누가 대언하지 아니하겠느냐? 8. The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

9. ¶ 아스돗의 궁궐들과 이집트 땅의 궁궐들에서 널리 알려 이르기를, 너희는 사마리아의 산들에 집결하여 거기의 한가운데 있는 큰 소동과 거기의 한가운데 있는 학대받는 자들을 보라, 하라. 9. ¶ Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

10. 자기 궁궐에서 폭력과 강탈을 쌓아 올리는 자들은 바르게 행할 줄을 알지 못하느니라. {주}가 말하노라. 10. For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

11. 그러므로 [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 그 땅의 사방에 한 대적이 있어 그가 네게서 네 힘을 쇠하게 하며 네 궁궐들을 노략하리라. 11. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.

12. {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 목자가 사자의 입에서 두 다리나 귀 조각을 빼내는 것 같이 사마리아에서 침상 모서리에 거하거나 다마스쿠스에서 잠자리에 거하는 이스라엘 자손도 구출을 받으리라. 12. Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

13. 너희는 듣고 야곱의 집에서 증언하라. [주] {하나님} 곧 만군의 하나님이 말하노라. 13. Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,

14. 내가 이스라엘의 범법들을 그에게 벌하는 날에 벧엘의 제단들도 벌하고 그 제단의 뿔들을 꺾어 땅에 떨어뜨리며 14. That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Beth-el: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

15. 또 겨울 집과 여름 집을 치리니 상아 집들이 사라지고 큰 집들이 끝이 나리라. {주}가 말하노라. 15. And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.

4장

1. 사마리아 산에 있는 바산의 암소들아, 너희는 이 말을 들을지어다. 너희가 가난한 자를 학대하고 궁핍한 자를 짓밟으며 그들의 주인들에게 이르기를, 술을 가져다가 우리가 마시게 하라, 하는도다. 1. Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

2. [주] {하나님}께서 자신의 거룩함을 두고 맹세하시되, 보라, 날들이 너희에게 이르리니 그가 갈고리로 너희를 끌고 가며 낚시 바늘로 너희 후손들을 끌고 가리라. 2. The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

3. 너희가 무너진 곳을 통하여 나가되 모든 암소가 각각 자기 앞의 무너진 곳을 통하여 나갈 것이요, 너희가 그들을 궁궐 속으로 던지리라. {주}가 말하노라, 하셨느니라. 3. And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.

4. ¶ 벧엘에 가서 죄를 짓고 길갈에서 범법을 크게 더하며 아침마다 너희 희생물을, 삼 년 뒤에 너희 십일조를 가져오고 4. ¶ Come to Beth-el, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:

5. 감사의 희생물을 누룩과 함께 드리며 자원하는 헌물을 드리도록 포고하고 널리 알리라. 오 너희 이스라엘 자손들아, 이것을 너희가 좋아하느니라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 5. And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

6. ¶ 내가 또한 너희의 모든 도시에서 너희 이를 깨끗하게 하며 너희의 모든 처소에서 빵이 부족하게 하였느니라. 그럼에도 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라. {주}가 말하노라. 6. ¶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

7. 또한 수확할 때까지 아직 세 달이 남았을지라도 내가 너희에게 비를 멈추게 하여 어떤 도시에는 비가 내리게 하고 다른 도시에는 내리지 아니하게 하였으므로 어떤 부분에는 비가 내리고 비가 내리지 아니한 부분은 마르매 7. And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

8. 이에 두세 도시가 떠돌아다니다가 한 도시에 이르러 물을 마시려 하였으되 만족하지 못하였느니라. 그럼에도 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라. {주}가 말하노라. 8. So two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

9. 내가 마름병과 곰팡이로 너희를 치고 너희 동산과 포도원과 무화과나무와 올리브나무가 불어날 때에 털벌레가 그것들을 삼키게 하였느니라. 그럼에도 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라. {주}가 말하노라. 9. I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

10. 내가 이집트에서 행한 방식대로 너희 가운데 역병을 보내고 칼로 너희의 젊은이들을 죽이며 너희의 말들을 빼앗아 가고 너희 진영의 고약한 냄새가 너희 콧구멍에까지 이르게 하였느니라. 그럼에도 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라. {주}가 말하노라. 10. I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

11. 하나님이 소돔과 고모라를 무너뜨린 것 같이 내가 너희 중의 얼마를 무너뜨렸으므로 너희가 불타는 데서 빼낸 나무 조각같이 되었느니라. 그럼에도 너희가 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였느니라. {주}가 말하노라. 11. I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

12. 오 이스라엘아, 그러므로 내가 네게 이와 같이 행하리라. 오 이스라엘아, 내가 이것을 네게 행하리니 네 하나님 만나기를 예비할지니라. 12. Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

13. 보라, 그가 산들을 짓고 바람을 창조하며 자신의 생각이 어떠한지 사람에게 밝히 알리고 아침을 어둡게 하며 땅의 높은 곳들을 밟나니 {주} 만군의 하나님이 그의 이름이니라. 13. For, lo, he that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is his name.

5장

1. 오 이스라엘의 집아, 너희는 내가 너희를 대적하여 지은 이 말 곧 애가를 들으라. 1. Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

2. 이스라엘의 처녀가 쓰러졌으니 다시는 일어나지 못하리로다. 그녀가 자기 땅에서 버려졌으며 그녀를 일으킬 자가 없도다. 2. The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.

3. [주] {하나님}이 이같이 말하노라. 천 명이 나간 도시가 이스라엘의 집을 위해 백 명만 남기고 백 명이 나간 도시가 열 명만 남기리라. 3. For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

4. ¶ {주}가 이스라엘의 집에게 이같이 말하노라. 너희는 나를 찾으라. 그리하면 너희가 살리라. 4. ¶ For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

5. 벧엘을 찾지 말고 길갈로 들어가지 말며 브엘세바로 나아가지 말라. 길갈은 반드시 포로가 되고 벧엘은 없어지리라. 5. But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.

6. {주}를 찾으라. 그리하면 너희가 살 것이요, 그리하지 아니하면 그가 요셉의 집에서 불같이 일어나 그 집을 삼키리니 벧엘에서 그 불을 끌 자가 없으리라. 6. Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.

7. 판단의 공의를 쑥으로 바꾸며 땅에서 의를 버리는 자들아, 7. Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

8. 너희는 일곱 별과 오리온을 만들고 사망의 그늘을 아침으로 바꾸며 낮을 밤으로 어둡게 만들고 바닷물을 불러 지면에 쏟는 자를 찾으라. {주}가 그의 이름이니라. 8. Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

9. 그는 노략 당한 자를 강하게 하여 강한 자를 치게 하나니 이로써 그 노략 당한 자가 가서 요새를 치리로다. 9. That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

10. 그들이 성문에서 꾸짖는 자를 미워하며 올바르게 말하는 자를 몹시 싫어하는도다. 10. They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.

11. 너희가 가난한 자를 짓밟고 그에게서 밀의 무거운 조세를 거두나니 그러므로 너희가 다듬은 돌로 집들을 건축하였으나 그 안에 거하지 못할 것이요, 좋은 포도원들을 세웠으나 그것들의 포도즙을 마시지 못하리라. 11. Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

12. 너희의 범법이 많고 너희의 큰 죄가 많음을 내가 아노라. 그들이 의인을 괴롭히며 뇌물을 받고 성문에서 가난한 자를 외면하여 그들의 정당함을 묵살하느니라. 12. For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.

13. 그러므로 그런 때에는 분별 있는 자가 침묵을 지키리니 그때는 악한 때니라. 13. Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

14. 너희가 살기 위해 선을 구하고 악을 구하지 말라. {주} 만군의 하나님이 너희가 말한 것과 같이 너희와 함께하리라. 14. Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

15. 악을 미워하고 선을 사랑하며 성문에서 판단의 공의를 굳게 세우라. 그리하면 혹시 {주} 만군의 하나님이 요셉의 남은 자들에게 은혜를 베풀리라. 15. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

16. 그러므로 {주} 만군의 하나님 [주]가 이같이 말하노라. 모든 거리에서 통곡하는 일이 있고 그들이 모든 큰길에서 이르기를, 슬프도다! 슬프도다! 하며 농부들을 불러 애곡하게 하고 애도하는 데 능한 자들을 불러 통곡하게 하리라. 16. Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.

17. 또 모든 포도원에서 통곡하는 일이 있으리니 이는 내가 너를 지나갈 것이기 때문이라. {주}가 말하노라. 17. And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD.

18. {주}의 날을 사모하는 너희에게 화가 있을지어다! 그 날이 너희에게 무슨 의미가 있느냐? {주}의 날은 어둠이요 빛이 아니니 18. Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

19. 그것은 마치 사람이 사자를 피해 도망하다가 곰을 만나거나 혹은 집으로 들어가 손을 벽에 대었다가 뱀에게 물린 것 같도다. 19. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

20. {주}의 날은 어둠이 아니겠느냐? 그것은 빛이 아니니라. 심지어 너무 어두우므로 그 날에는 밝음이 없지 아니하겠느냐? 20. Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

21. ¶ 내가 너희의 명절날들을 미워하고 멸시하며 너희의 엄숙한 집회들에서 냄새를 맡지 아니하리라. 21. I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

22. 비록 너희가 나를 위하여 번제 헌물과 너희의 음식 헌물을 드릴지라도 내가 그것들을 받지 아니하며 너희의 살진 짐승으로 드리는 화평 헌물도 내가 중히 여기지 아니하리라. 22. Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.

23. 너는 네 노래 소리를 내 앞에서 없애라. 네 현악기의 곡조를 내가 듣지 아니하리라. 23. Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.

24. 오직 판단의 공의를 물같이, 의를 힘찬 시내같이 흐르게 할지어다. 24. But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.

25. 오 이스라엘의 집아, 너희가 광야에서 사십 년 동안 희생물과 헌물을 내게 드린 적이 있었느냐? 25. Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?

26. 오히려 너희가 너희의 몰록의 장막과 너희의 형상들 기윤 곧 너희가 너희를 위하여 만든 너희 신의 별을 가지고 다녔나니 26. But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

27. 그러므로 내가 너희를 다마스쿠스 너머로 포로가 되어 가게 하리라. 이름이 만군의 하나님인 {주}가 말하노라. 27. Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

6장

1. 시온에서 안락하게 거하며 사마리아의 산을 신뢰하는 자들 곧 민족들의 우두머리라는 이름으로 불리는 자들에게 화가 있을지어다! 이스라엘의 집이 그들에게로 갔도다. 1. Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

2. 너희는 갈네로 건너가 보고 거기서 큰 하맛으로 가며 그 뒤에 블레셋 사람들의 가드로 내려가라. 그것들이 이 왕국들보다 나으냐? 그것들의 경계가 너희의 경계보다 크냐? 2. Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

3. 너희가 재앙의 날을 멀리 두고 폭력의 자리를 가까이 오게 하는도다. 3. Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

4. 그들은 상아 침상에 눕고 자기 잠자리에서 기지개를 켜며 양 떼에서 어린양과 외양간 한가운데서 송아지를 꺼내어 먹고 4. That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

5. 현악기 소리에 맞추어 노래를 부르며 다윗같이 자기를 위하여 악기를 창안하고 5. That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

6. 대접으로 포도주를 마시며 으뜸가는 기름으로 자기 몸을 바르면서도 요셉의 고통에 대하여는 근심하지 아니하는도다. 6. That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

7. ¶ 그러므로 이제 그들이 포로가 되어 잡혀가는 첫 사람들과 함께 포로로 잡혀가리니 기지개를 켠 자들의 연회가 없어지리라. 7. ¶ Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

8. {주} 만군의 하나님이 말하노라. [주] {하나님}이 자신을 두고 맹세하였노라. 내가 야곱의 뛰어남을 몹시 싫어하며 그의 궁궐들을 미워하므로 그 도시와 그 안의 모든 것을 넘겨주리라. 8. The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

9. 한 집에 열 남자가 남는다 할지라도 그들이 죽으리라. 9. And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

10. 그 사람의 삼촌 곧 죽은 자를 불태우는 자가 그를 취하여 그 뼈들을 집 밖으로 가져갈 때에 그 집의 곁에 있는 자에게 이르기를, 아직도 너와 함께한 자가 있느냐? 하면 그가 이르기를, 없다, 하리니 그러면 그가 이르기를, 네 혀를 억제하라. 우리가 {주}의 이름을 언급해서는 아니 되느니라, 하리라. 10. And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.

11. 보라, {주}가 명령하며 그가 큰 집을 쳐서 무너지게 하고 작은 집을 쳐서 갈라지게 하리라. 11. For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

12. ¶ 말들이 바위 위에서 달리겠느냐? 사람이 거기서 소들로 쟁기질을 하겠느냐? 너희가 판단의 공의를 쓸개로 바꾸고 의의 열매를 독초로 바꾸었도다. 12. ¶ Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

13. 너희가 아무것도 아닌 것을 기뻐하며 이르기를, 우리가 우리 힘으로 우리를 위하여 뿔들을 취하지 아니하였느냐? 하는도다. 13. Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

14. 그러나 {주} 만군의 하나님이 말하노라. 오 이스라엘의 집아, 보라, 내가 너희를 치려고 한 민족을 일으키리니 그들이 하맛 어귀에서부터 광야의 강에 이르기까지 너희를 괴롭게 하리라. 14. But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

7장

1. [주] {하나님}께서 이같이 내게 보이셨느니라. 보라, 나중에 자라는 풀이 움돋기 시작할 때에 그분께서 메뚜기들을 지으셨느니라. 보라, 그때는 왕의 풀을 벤 뒤에 나중에 자라는 풀이 움돋는 때였느니라. 1. Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

2. 그것들이 그 땅의 풀 먹기를 마치매 내가 이르기를, 오 [주] {하나님}이여, 간청하건대 용서하소서. 야곱이 미약하오니 그가 누구를 의지하여 일어서리이까? 하매 2. And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord GOD, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

3. {주}께서 이것으로 인해 뜻을 돌이키시며 이르시되, {주}가 말하노라. 그 일이 있지 아니하리라, 하셨느니라. 3. The LORD repented for this: It shall not be, saith the LORD.

4. ¶ [주] {하나님}께서 이같이 내게 보이셨느니라. 보라, [주] {하나님}께서 불로 싸우려고 부르시니 그 불이 큰 깊음을 삼키고 일부분을 먹어 치웠느니라. 4. ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord GOD called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.

5. 이에 내가 이르되, 오 [주] {하나님}이여, 간청하건대 그치소서. 야곱이 미약하오니 그가 누구를 의지하여 일어서리이까? 하매 5. Then said I, O Lord GOD, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.

6. {주}께서 이것으로 인해 뜻을 돌이키시며 이르시되, [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 이 일도 있지 아니하리라, 하셨느니라. 6. The LORD repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord GOD.

7. ¶ 그분께서 이같이 내게 보이셨느니라. 보라, 다림줄을 써서 쌓은 성벽 위에 [주]께서 자신의 손에 다림줄을 잡고 서 계시더라. 7. ¶ Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

8. {주}께서 내게 이르시되, 아모스야, 네가 무엇을 보느냐? 하시기에 내가 이르되, 다림줄이니이다, 하매 그때에 [주]께서 이르시되, 보라, 내가 다림줄을 내 백성 이스라엘의 한가운데 두고 다시는 그들 곁을 또 그냥 지나가지 아니하리니 8. And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:

9. 이삭의 산당들이 황폐하게 되고 이스라엘의 성소들이 피폐하게 되리라. 내가 일어나서 칼로 여로보암의 집을 치리라, 하셨느니라. 9. And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

10. ¶ 그때에 벧엘의 제사장 아마샤가 이스라엘 왕 여로보암에게 사람을 보내어 이르되, 이스라엘의 집 한가운데서 아모스가 왕을 대적하려고 음모를 꾸몄는데 그의 모든 말을 그 땅이 감당할 수 없나이다. 10. ¶ Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

11. 아모스가 이같이 말하기를, 여로보암은 칼에 죽고 이스라엘은 반드시 포로로 사로잡혀 자기들의 땅에서 떠나리라, 하나이다. 11. For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.

12. 아마샤가 또한 아모스에게 이르되, 오 너 선견자야, 너는 가서 유다 땅으로 도망하고 거기서 빵을 먹으며 거기서 대언하고 12. Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

13. 다시는 벧엘에서 또 대언하지 말라. 그곳은 왕의 예배처요, 왕의 뜰이니라, 하니라. 13. But prophesy not again any more at Beth-el: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.

14. ¶ 이에 아모스가 아마샤에게 응답하여 이르되, 나는 대언자가 아니며 대언자의 아들도 아니었노라. 다만 나는 가축치는 자요, 돌무화과나무 열매를 모으는 자였는데 14. ¶ Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:

15. 내가 양 떼를 따라갈 때에 {주}께서 나를 데려가시고 {주}께서 내게 이르시기를, 가서 내 백성 이스라엘에게 대언하라, 하셨느니라. 15. And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

16. ¶ 그런즉 이제 너는 {주}의 말씀을 들을지니라. 네가 이르기를, 이스라엘을 대적하여 대언하지 말며 이삭의 집을 대적하여 네 말을 내지 말라, 하는도다. 16. ¶ Now therefore hear thou the word of the LORD: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.

17. 그러므로 {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 네 아내는 도시에서 창녀가 되고 네 아들딸들은 칼에 쓰러지며 네 땅은 줄로 측량되어 나누어지고 너는 더러워진 땅에서 죽을 것이요, 이스라엘은 반드시 포로가 되어 자기 땅에서 떠나리라. 17. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.

8장

1. [주] {하나님}께서 이같이 내게 보이셨느니라. 보라, 여름 과일 한 바구니이니라. 1. Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

2. 그분께서 이르시되, 아모스야, 네가 무엇을 보느냐? 하시기에 내가 이르되, 여름 과일 한 바구니이니이다, 하니 그때에 {주}께서 내게 이르시되, 내 백성 이스라엘에게 끝이 이르렀은즉 내가 다시는 그들 곁을 또 그냥 지나가지 아니하리라. 2. And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

3. 그 날에는 성전의 노래들이 울부짖음이 되며 곳곳에 죽은 시체가 많이 있어 그들이 묵묵히 그 시체들을 내버리리라. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 3. And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

4. ¶ 오 궁핍한 자를 삼키며 그 땅의 가난한 자를 망하게 하는 자들아, 너희는 이 말을 들을지어다. 4. ¶ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

5. 너희가 말하기를, 월삭이 언제나 지나가서 우리가 곡식을 팔까? 안식일이 언제나 지나가서 우리가 에바를 작게 하고 세겔을 크게 하며 속임수로 저울을 틀리게 하고 밀을 내놓을까? 5. Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

6. 또 우리가 은으로 가난한 자를 사며 신 한 켤레로 궁핍한 자를 사고 참으로 밀 찌끼를 팔까? 하는도다. 6. That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

7. {주}께서 야곱의 뛰어남을 두고 맹세하시되, 반드시 내가 그들의 행위 중 어느 것도 결코 잊지 아니하리라, 하셨나니 7. The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

8. 이것으로 인하여 그 땅이 떨지 아니하겠으며 그 안에 거하는 모든 사람이 애곡하지 아니하겠느냐? 그 땅이 홍수같이 전부 솟아올랐다가 이집트의 홍수로 말미암아 밀려나서 가라앉는 것 같이 가라앉으리라. 8. Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

9. [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 그 날에 내가 해를 정오에 지게 하고 밝은 대낮에 땅을 캄캄하게 하며 9. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

10. 너희의 명절들을 애곡으로, 너희의 모든 노래를 애가로 변하게 하고 모든 허리에 굵은 베를 두르게 하며 모든 사람의 머리를 대머리가 되게 하고 그것을 외아들로 인한 애곡 같게 하며 그것의 끝을 쓰라린 날과 같게 하리라. 10. And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

11. ¶ [주] {하나님}이 말하노라. 보라, 날들이 이르리니 내가 그 땅에 기근을 보내리라. 그것은 빵으로 인한 기근도 아니요 물로 인한 갈증도 아니며 오직 {주}의 말씀들을 듣는 것에 대한 기갈이니라. 11. ¶ Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

12. 그들이 바다에서 바다까지, 북쪽에서 동쪽까지 떠돌아다니며 {주}의 말씀을 구하려고 이리저리 달음질하여도 그것을 얻지 못하리니 12. And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

13. 그 날에 아름다운 처녀들과 청년들이 갈증으로 인하여 기진하리라. 13. In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

14. 사마리아의 죄를 두고 맹세하여 이르기를, 오 단아, 네 신이 살아 있다, 하거나, 브엘세바의 풍습이 살아 있다, 하는 자들 곧 그들도 쓰러져서 결코 다시 일어나지 못하리라. 14. They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beer-sheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

9장

1. 내가 보니 [주]께서 제단 위에 서서 이르시되, 문의 인방을 쳐서 기둥들이 흔들리게 하고 그것들의 머리를 다 자르라. 내가 그들 중에서 마지막 남은 자들을 칼로 죽이리니 그들 중에서 도피하는 자도 도피하여 벗어나지 못하고 그들 중에서 도망하는 자도 구출을 받지 못하리라. 1. I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.

2. 그들이 땅을 파고 지옥으로 들어갈지라도 내 손이 거기서 그들을 붙잡으리라. 그들이 하늘로 올라갈지라도 내가 거기서 그들을 끌어내리리라. 2. Though they dig into hell, thence shall mine hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down:

3. 그들이 갈멜 산 꼭대기에 숨을지라도 내가 거기서 그들을 찾아내어 끄집어 내리라. 그들이 내 눈앞에서 떠나 바다 밑에 숨을지라도 내가 거기서 뱀에게 명령하여 그것이 그들을 물게 하리라. 3. And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

4. 그들이 자기 원수들 앞에서 포로가 되어 갈지라도 내가 거기서 칼에게 명령하여 그것이 그들을 죽이게 하리라. 내가 내 눈을 그들 위에 두어 화를 내리고 복을 내리지 아니하리라. 4. And though they go into captivity before their enemies, thence will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

5. [주] 만군의 {하나님}은 그 땅에 손을 대어 그것을 녹게 하고 그 안에 거하는 모든 자가 애곡하게 하며 그 땅을 홍수같이 전부 솟아오르게 하였다가 이집트의 홍수로 말미암아 가라앉는 것 같이 가라앉게 하는 자니라. 5. And the Lord GOD of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt, and all that dwell therein shall mourn: and it shall rise up wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

6. 그가 하늘에 자신을 위하여 여러 층을 건축하며 땅에 자신의 군대를 세우고 바다의 물들을 불러 지면에 그것들을 쏟나니 {주}가 그의 이름이니라. 6. It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.

7. {주}가 말하노라. 오 이스라엘의 자손들아, 너희는 내게 에티오피아 사람들의 자손들 같지 아니하냐? 내가 이스라엘을 이집트 땅에서 데려오지 아니하였느냐? 또 블레셋 사람들을 갑돌에서, 시리아 사람들을 기르에서 데려오지 아니하였느냐? 7. Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

8. 보라, [주] {하나님}의 눈은 죄를 짓는 왕국 위에 있나니 내가 그 왕국을 지면에서 끊어 멸하려니와 야곱의 집은 철저히 멸하지 아니하리라. {주}가 말하노라. 8. Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.

9. 보라, 내가 명령하고 체로 곡식을 체질하는 것 같이 모든 민족들 가운데서 이스라엘의 집을 체질하리라. 그럼에도 가장 작은 알갱이조차 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라. 9. For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.

10. 내 백성 중의 모든 죄인 곧, 재앙이 우리를 따라잡지 못하며 우리보다 앞서 가지 못하리라, 하는 자들은 칼에 죽으리라. 10. All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.

11. ¶ 그 날에 내가 다윗의 쓰러진 장막을 일으켜 세우고 그것의 무너진 곳을 막으며 내가 그의 허물어진 것들을 일으켜 세우고 내가 그것을 옛날과 같이 건축하리니 11. ¶ In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:

12. 이것은 그들이 에돔의 남은 자들과 내 이름으로 불리는 모든 이교도들의 남은 자들을 소유하게 하려 함이라. 이 일을 행하는 {주}가 말하노라. 12. That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.

13. {주}가 말하노라. 보라, 날들이 이르리니 쟁기질하는 자는 곡식 거두는 자를 따라잡고 포도를 밟는 자는 씨 뿌리는 자를 따라잡으며 산들은 단 포도즙을 흘리고 모든 작은 산들은 녹으리라. 13. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.

14. 또 내가 내 백성 이스라엘의 포로 된 자들을 다시 데려오리니 그들이 피폐한 도시들을 건축하여 거기 거주하며 포도원들을 세우고 그것들의 포도즙을 마시며 또한 동산들을 만들어 그것들의 열매를 먹으리라. 14. And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

15. 내가 그들을 그들의 땅에 심으리니 그들이 내가 그들에게 준 그들의 땅에서 다시는 뽑히지 아니하리라. {주} 네 하나님이 말하노라. 15. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.

1장

1. 브두엘의 아들 요엘에게 임한 {주}의 말씀이라. 1. The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

2. 늙은 자들아, 너희는 이것을 들을지어다. 그 땅의 모든 거주민들아, 너희는 귀를 기울일지어다. 너희 날들에나 너희 조상들의 날들에 이런 일이 있었느냐? 2. Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

3. 너희는 그것을 너희 자녀들에게 말하고 너희 자녀들은 그들의 자녀들에게 말하며 그들의 자녀들은 다른 세대에게 말할지니라. 3. Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

4. 털벌레가 남긴 것을 메뚜기가 먹었고 메뚜기가 남긴 것을 자벌레가 먹었으며 자벌레가 남긴 것을 쐐기벌레가 먹었도다. 4. That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

5. 술 취한 자들아, 너희는 깨어 울지어다. 포도주를 마시는 모든 자들아, 너희는 새 포도즙으로 인하여 울부짖을지어다. 그것이 너희 입에서 끊어졌도다. 5. Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

6. 한 민족이 내 땅에 올라왔는데 그들은 강하고 수없이 많으며 그들의 이는 사자의 이빨 같고 또 그가 큰 사자의 어금니를 가졌도다. 6. For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

7. 그가 내 포도나무를 피폐하게 하였으며 내 무화과나무의 껍질을 벗기되 깨끗이 벗겨 내버렸으므로 그것의 가지들이 하얗게 되었도다. 7. He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

8. ¶ 어렸을 때의 남편으로 인해 굵은 베를 두른 처녀같이 애곡하라. 8. ¶ Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

9. 음식 헌물과 음료 헌물이 {주}의 집에서 끊어졌고 제사장들 곧 {주}를 섬기는 자들이 애곡하는도다. 9. The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.

10. 밭이 소멸되었고 땅이 애곡하니 이는 곡식이 소멸되었고 새 포도즙이 말랐으며 기름이 떨어지기 때문이라. 10. The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

11. 오 너희 농부들아, 너희는 부끄러워할지어다. 오 포도원을 가꾸는 자들아, 너희는 밀과 보리로 인하여 울부짖을지어다. 밭의 수확할 것이 사라졌도다. 11. Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

12. 포도나무가 말랐고 무화과나무가 시들며 석류나무와 또한 종려나무와 사과나무와 심지어 들의 모든 나무들이 시들었으니 이는 기쁨이 말라 사람들의 아들들에게서 사라졌기 때문이로다. 12. The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

13. 제사장들아, 너희는 띠를 동여매고 애곡할지어다. 제단을 섬기는 자들아, 너희는 울부짖을지어다. 내 하나님을 섬기는 자들아, 너희는 와서 굵은 베옷을 입고 밤새도록 누울지어다. 너희가 음식 헌물과 음료 헌물을 너희 하나님의 집에서 드리지 못하게 되었느니라. 13. Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

14. ¶ 너희는 금식하는 일을 거룩히 구별하고 엄숙한 집회를 소집하여 그 땅의 장로들과 모든 거주민들을 {주} 너희 하나님의 집으로 모으고 {주}께 부르짖을지어다. 14. ¶ Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

15. 슬프다 그 날이여! {주}의 날이 가까우며 그 날이 [전능자]에게서 나온 멸망같이 이르리로다. 15. Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

16. 먹을 것이 우리 눈앞에서 끊어지지 아니하였느냐? 참으로 기쁨과 즐거움이 우리 하나님의 집에서 끊어지지 아니하였느냐? 16. Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17. 씨가 자기의 흙덩어리 밑에서 썩었고 창고가 황폐하게 되었으며 곳간이 무너졌으니 이는 곡식이 시들었기 때문이로다. 17. The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

18. 짐승들이 어찌 그리 신음하는가! 가축 떼가 어찌할 바를 모르니 이는 그것들에게 초장이 없기 때문이라. 참으로 양 떼가 황폐하게 되었도다. 18. How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

19. 오 {주}여, 불이 광야의 초장들을 삼키고 불꽃이 들의 모든 나무들을 태웠으므로 내가 주께 부르짖으리이다. 19. O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

20. 물 많은 강들이 마르고 불이 광야의 초장들을 삼켰으므로 들의 짐승들도 주께 부르짖나이다. 20. The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

2장

1. 너희는 시온에서 나팔을 불며 내 거룩한 산에서 경고의 소리를 내어 그 땅의 모든 거주민들이 떨게 하라. {주}의 날이 이르느니라. 그 날이 매우 가까우니 1. Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

2. 곧 어둡고 캄캄한 날이요, 구름이 끼고 짙은 어둠이 덮인 날이라. 이 날은 아침이 산들 위로 퍼지는 것 같으니 이는 크고 강한 백성으로 인함이라. 이와 같은 것이 지금까지 없었고 그것 이후에도 많은 세대의 여러 햇수에 이르도록 다시는 없으리로다. 2. A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

3. 불이 그들의 앞에서 삼키고 불꽃이 그들의 뒤에서 태우는도다. 그 땅이 그들이 이르기 전에는 에덴의 동산 같으나 그들이 이른 뒤에는 황폐한 광야 같으니 참으로 아무것도 그들을 피하지 못하리로다. 3. A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

4. 그들의 모양은 말의 모양 같고 그들의 달리는 것은 기병 같으며 4. The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.

5. 그들의 뛰는 것은 산꼭대기에서 나는 병거 소리 같고 지푸라기를 삼키는 불꽃 소리와도 같으며 강한 백성이 전열을 갖추고 싸우는 것 같으니 5. Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.

6. 그들의 얼굴 앞에서 백성들이 크게 고통을 받으며 모든 얼굴이 검게 되리라. 6. Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

7. 그들이 용사같이 달리고 군사같이 성벽을 오르며 각각 자기 길로 전진하고 자기 줄을 흐트러뜨리지 아니하며 7. They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:

8. 서로 밀치지 아니하고 그들이 각각 자기 길로 걸으며 칼에 넘어져도 상하지 아니하리라. 8. Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

9. 그들이 그 도시에서 이리저리 달려가며 성벽 위에서 달려가고 집 위로 올라가며 도둑같이 창문을 통해 들어가리니 9. They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.

10. 그들 앞에서 땅이 진동하고 하늘들이 떨며 해와 달이 어두워지고 별들이 빛을 내던 것을 멈추리로다. 10. The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

11. {주}께서 자신의 군대 앞에서 친히 목소리를 내시리로다. 그분의 진영은 심히 크며 자신의 말씀을 집행하시는 이는 강하시도다. {주}의 날이 크고 심히 두려우니 누가 그 날을 견디리요? 11. And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

12. ¶ {주}께서 이르시되, 그런즉 너희는 이제 또한 금식하고 슬피 울고 애곡하며 너희 마음을 다하여 내게로 돌아오라, 하시나니 12. ¶ Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

13. 너희 옷을 찢지 말고 너희 마음을 찢으며 {주} 너희 하나님께로 돌아올지어다. 그분은 은혜로우시며 긍휼이 많으시며 분노하기를 더디 하시며 큰 친절을 베푸사 재앙에서 뜻을 돌이키시나니 13. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

14. 그분께서 돌아오사 뜻을 돌이키시고 복 곧 {주} 너희 하나님께 드리는 음식 헌물과 음료 헌물을 자신의 뒤에 남겨 두실지 누가 아느냐? 14. Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?

15. ¶ 시온에서 나팔을 불어 금식하는 일을 거룩히 구별하고 엄숙한 집회를 소집하라. 15. ¶ Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

16. 백성을 모으고 회중을 거룩히 구별하며 장로들을 소집하고 아이들과 젖 빠는 자들을 모으며 신랑은 그의 방에서 나오게 하고 신부는 그녀의 골방에서 나오게 하라. 16. Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

17. 제사장들 곧 {주}를 섬기는 자들은 주랑과 제단 사이에서 울면서 이르기를, 오 {주}여, 주의 백성을 용서하옵소서. 주의 상속 백성을 치욕에 내주지 마시고 이교도들이 그들을 다스리지 못하게 하옵소서. 어찌하여 그들이 백성 가운데서, 그들의 하나님이 어디 있느냐, 하고 말하여야 하리이까? 할지어다. 17. Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

18. ¶ 그때에 {주}께서 자신의 땅을 위하여 질투하시고 자신의 백성을 불쌍히 여기시리라. 18. ¶ Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

19. 참으로 {주}께서 자신의 백성에게 응답하여 이르시기를, 보라, 내가 너희에게 곡식과 포도즙과 기름을 보내리니 너희가 그것들로 만족하리라. 내가 다시는 너희를 이교도들 가운데서 수치거리로 삼지 아니하며 19. Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:

20. 오히려 북쪽 군대를 너희로부터 멀리 떠나게 하여 메마르고 황폐한 땅으로 그를 쫓아내리니 그의 얼굴은 동쪽 바다를 향하고 그의 뒷부분은 맨 끝 바다를 향하리라. 그의 고약한 냄새가 올라오며 그의 악취가 올라오리니 이는 그가 큰일들을 행하였기 때문이니라, 하시리라. 20. But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.

21. ¶ 오 땅이여, 두려워하지 말고 기뻐하며 즐거워하라. {주}께서 큰일들을 행하시리라. 21. ¶ Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.

22. 들의 짐승들아, 너희는 무서워하지 말라. 광야의 초장들이 싹을 내고 나무가 열매를 맺으며 무화과나무와 포도나무가 힘을 내는도다. 22. Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.

23. 시온의 자녀들아, 너희는 그때에 즐거워하며 {주} 너희 하나님을 기뻐하라. 그분께서 너희에게 이른 비를 적당히 주셨으며 또 너희를 위해 비를 내려 주시되 이른 비와 첫째 달의 늦은 비를 내려 주시리니 23. Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

24. 그런즉 타작마당에는 밀이 가득하고 독에는 포도즙과 기름이 넘쳐나리로다. 24. And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.

25. 내가 전에 너희 가운데로 보낸 나의 큰 군대 곧 메뚜기와 자벌레와 쐐기벌레와 털벌레가 먹은 햇수를 내가 너희에게 되돌려 주리니 25. And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

26. 너희가 풍족히 먹고 만족하며 너희를 놀랍게 대우한 {주} 너희 하나님의 이름을 찬양하리라. 내 백성이 결코 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리로다. 26. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

27. 그런즉 내가 이스라엘의 한가운데 있으며 내가 {주} 너희 하나님이고 다른 이가 없는 줄을 너희가 알리라. 내 백성이 결코 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라. 27. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

28. ¶ 그 뒤에 내가 내 영을 모든 육체 위에 부어 주리니 너희의 아들딸들은 대언하며 너희의 늙은이들은 꿈을 꾸고 너희의 젊은이들은 환상들을 보리라. 28. ¶ And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29. 또 그 날들에 내가 내 영을 남종과 여종들 위에 부어 주며 29. And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

30. 하늘들과 땅에서 이적들을 보이리니 곧 피와 불과 연기 기둥들이로다. 30. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

31. 크고 두려운 {주}의 날이 이르기 전에 해가 변하여 어둠이 되고 달이 변하여 피가 되려니와 31. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

32. 누구든지 {주}의 이름을 부르는 자는 구출을 받으리니 {주}가 말한 대로 시온 산과 예루살렘에 구출이 있으며 또 {주}가 부를 남은 자들에게도 구출이 있으리라. 32. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

3장

1. 보라, 그 날들 곧 내가 유다와 예루살렘의 포로 된 자들을 다시 데려올 그때에 1. For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,

2. 내가 또한 모든 민족들을 모아 여호사밧 골짜기로 데리고 내려가서 내 백성 곧 내 상속 백성 이스라엘을 위하여 거기서 그들과 변론하리라. 그들이 이스라엘을 민족들 가운데로 흩어 버리고 내 땅을 나누었으며 2. I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

3. 또 내 백성을 놓고 제비를 뽑으며 창녀를 얻으려고 남자아이를 내주고 또 마시기 위해 포도주를 구하려고 여자아이를 팔았도다. 3. And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.

4. 참으로 그러하였도다. 오 두로와 시돈과 팔레스타인의 모든 지역들아, 너희가 나와 무슨 상관이 있느냐? 너희가 내게 보복하고자 하느냐? 너희가 내게 보복할진대 내가 너희의 보복하는 것을 빠르고 급하게 너희 머리 위로 돌리리라. 4. Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? will ye render me a recompence? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompence upon your own head;

5. 너희가 나의 은과 금을 취하고 나의 좋고 아름다운 것들을 너희 신전들로 가져갔으며 5. Because ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly pleasant things:

6. 또한 너희가 유다 자손들과 예루살렘 자손들을 그들의 경계에서 멀리 옮겨놓기 위해 그리스말 하는 사람들에게 그들을 팔았도다. 6. The children also of Judah and the children of Jerusalem have ye sold unto the Grecians, that ye might remove them far from their border.

7. 보라, 너희가 그들을 팔아넘긴 곳에서 내가 그들을 빼내어 일으키고 너희가 보복한 것을 너희 머리 위로 돌리리니 7. Behold, I will raise them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompence upon your own head:

8. 즉 내가 너희 아들딸들을 유다 자손의 손에 팔고 그들은 먼 곳에 거하는 백성 곧 스바 사람들에게 저들을 팔리라. {주}가 그것을 말하였느니라. 8. And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the Sabeans, to a people far off: for the LORD hath spoken it.

9. ¶ 너희는 이방인들 가운데서 이것을 선포할지어다. 전쟁을 예비하고 용사들을 깨우며 모든 군사가 가까이 나아와 올라오게 할지어다. 9. ¶ Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:

10. 너희의 보습을 쳐서 칼을 만들지어다. 너희의 가지 치는 낫을 쳐서 창을 만들지어다. 약한 자는 말하기를, 나는 강하다, 할지어다. 10. Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.

11. 모든 이교도들아, 너희는 집결할지어다. 올지어다. 사방에서 함께 모일지어다. 오 {주}여, 주의 강한 자들이 거기로 내려오게 하옵소서. 11. Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD.

12. 이교도들은 깨어서 여호사밧 골짜기로 올라올지어다. 내가 거기에 앉아서 사방의 모든 이교도들을 심판하리라. 12. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.

13. 너희는 낫을 대라. 수확할 것이 익었도다. 너희는 와서 밟으라. 포도즙 틀이 가득 차고 독이 흘러넘치나니 이는 그들의 사악함이 크기 때문이라. 13. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.

14. {주}의 날이 판결 골짜기 안에서 가까우므로 많은 무리, 많은 무리가 판결 골짜기에 있도다. 14. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

15. 해와 달이 어두워지며 별들이 빛을 내던 것을 멈추리로다. 15. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

16. {주}가 또한 시온에서 부르짖으며 예루살렘으로부터 자신의 목소리를 내리니 하늘들과 땅이 흔들리리로다. 그러나 {주}가 자신의 백성의 소망이 되며 이스라엘 자손의 힘이 되리로다. 16. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

17. 그러므로 내가 나의 거룩한 산 시온에 거하는 {주} 너희 하나님인 줄을 너희가 알리라. 그때에는 예루살렘이 거룩할 것이요, 다시는 타국인이 그리로 지나다니지 못하리로다. 17. So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.

18. ¶ 그 날에는 산들이 새 포도즙을 떨어뜨리고 작은 산들이 젖을 흘리며 유다의 모든 강에 물이 흐르고 {주}의 집에서 샘이 나와 시팀 골짜기에 물을 대리로다. 18. ¶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.

19. 이집트는 황폐한 곳이 되고 에돔은 황폐한 광야가 되리니 이는 그들이 유다 자손에게 폭력을 행사하고 그들의 땅에서 무죄한 피를 흘렸기 때문이니라. 19. Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

20. 그러나 유다는 영원히 거하며 예루살렘은 대대로 거하리라. 20. But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.

21. 내가 정결하게 하지 않았던 그들의 피를 내가 정결하게 하리니 이는 {주}가 시온에 거하기 때문이니라. 21. For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.

호세아

1장

1. 유다 왕 웃시야와 요담과 아하스와 히스기야 시대와 이스라엘 왕 요아스의 아들 여로보암 시대에 브에리의 아들 호세아에게 임한 {주}의 말씀이라. 1. The word of the LORD that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

2. 호세아로 말미암은 {주}의 말씀의 시작이라. {주}께서 호세아에게 이르시되, 가서 행음하는 아내를 취하고 행음으로 인한 자식들을 취하라. 그 땅이 {주}를 떠나 크게 행음하였느니라, 하시니라. 2. The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD.

3. 이에 그가 가서 디블라임의 딸 고멜을 취하니 그녀가 수태하여 그에게 아들을 낳으니라. 3. So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.

4. {주}께서 그에게 이르시되, 그의 이름을 예스르엘이라 하라. 잠시 뒤에 내가 예스르엘의 피에 대한 원수를 예후의 집에 갚고 이스라엘의 집의 왕국을 그치게 하리라. 4. And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.

5. 그 날에 내가 예스르엘 골짜기에서 이스라엘의 활을 꺾으리라, 하시니라. 5. And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.

6. ¶ 그녀가 또 수태하여 딸을 낳으니 하나님께서 그에게 이르시되, 그녀의 이름을 로루하마라 하라. 내가 다시는 이스라엘의 집에 긍휼을 베풀지 아니하고 그들을 완전히 제거하리라. 6. ¶ And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.

7. 그러나 내가 유다의 집에는 긍휼을 베풀고 {주} 그들의 하나님으로 말미암아 그들을 구원하며 활이나 칼이나 전쟁이나 말이나 기병으로 그들을 구원하지 아니하리라, 하시니라. 7. But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

8. ¶ 이제 그녀가 로루하마를 젖 뗀 뒤에 수태하여 아들을 낳으니라. 8. ¶ Now when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.

9. 이에 하나님께서 이르시되, 그의 이름을 로암미라 하라. 너희는 내 백성이 아니요, 나는 너희 하나님이 되지 아니하리라. 9. Then said God, Call his name Lo-ammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.

10. ¶ 그러할지라도 이스라엘 자손의 수가 바다의 모래 같아서 헤아릴 수도 없고 셀 수도 없으리니 전에 그들에게 이르기를, 너희는 내 백성이 아니라, 한 그곳에서 곧 거기에서 그들에게 이르기를, 너희는 살아 계신 하나님의 아들들이라, 하리라. 10. ¶ Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

11. 그때에 유다 자손과 이스라엘 자손이 함께 모여 자기들을 위해 한 머리를 정하고 그 땅에서부터 올라오리니 이는 예스르엘의 날이 클 것이기 때문이라. 11. Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

2장

1. 너희 형제들에게는 너희가 암미라 하고 너희 자매들에게는 루하마라 하라. 1. Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-hamah.

2. 너희 어머니와 변론하고 변론하라. 그녀는 내 아내가 아니요, 나도 그녀의 남편이 아니니라. 그런즉 그녀가 자기 눈앞에서 행음을 버리게 하고 자기 젖가슴 사이에서 간음을 버리게 할지니라. 2. Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;

3. 그리하지 아니하면 내가 그녀를 벌거벗기고 그녀가 태어나던 날에 했던 것 같이 그녀를 볼거리로 세우며 또 그녀를 광야같이 되게 하고 마른 땅같이 되게 하여 목마름으로 그녀를 죽이리라. 3. Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.

4. 또 내가 그녀의 자식들에게 긍휼을 베풀지 아니하리니 그들은 행음으로 인한 자식들이니라. 4. And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

5. 그들의 어머니는 창녀 짓을 행하였고 그들을 수태한 여인은 수치스럽게 행하였느니라. 그녀가 이르기를, 내게 내 빵과 내 물과 내 양털과 내 아마와 내 기름과 내 마실 것을 주는 나의 사랑하는 자들을 내가 따라가리라, 하였도다. 5. For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.

6. ¶ 그러므로, 보라, 내가 가시로 네 길에 울타리를 치며 벽을 쌓아 그녀가 행로들을 찾지 못하게 하리니 6. ¶ Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.

7. 그녀가 자기의 사랑하는 자들을 쫓아갈지라도 따라잡지 못하며 그들을 찾을지라도 만나지 못하리라. 그때에야 그녀가 이르기를, 내가 가서 내 첫 남편에게 돌아가리니 그때가 지금보다 내게 더 나았도다, 하리라. 7. And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.

8. 내가 그녀에게 곡식과 포도즙과 기름을 주었고 또 그녀의 은과 금 곧 그들이 바알을 위하여 예비한 그것들도 내가 많이 더해 주었음을 그녀가 알지 못하였도다. 8. For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.

9. 그러므로 내가 돌아가서 내 곡식이 나는 때에 그 곡식을, 내 포도즙이 나는 철에 그 포도즙을 제거하며 그녀의 벌거벗은 것을 가리기 위해 준 내 양털과 내 아마를 회수하리라. 9. Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.

10. 이제 그녀가 사랑하는 자들의 눈앞에서 내가 그녀의 음탕함을 드러내리니 아무도 내 손에서 그녀를 건져 내지 못하리라. 10. And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.

11. 내가 또한 그녀의 모든 희락과 명절날과 월삭과 안식일과 모든 엄숙한 명절이 그치게 하며 11. I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

12. 그녀가 전에 자기의 포도나무와 무화과나무를 가리켜 말하기를, 이것들은 나의 사랑하는 자들이 내게 준 내 보상이라, 하였거니와 내가 그것들을 멸하고 수풀이 되게 하며 들의 짐승들이 그것들을 먹게 하리라. 12. And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.

13. 그녀가 바알들을 섬긴 날수대로 내가 그녀에게 징벌하리니 그때에 그녀가 그것들에게 분향하고 귀고리와 보석으로 자기를 치장하며 자기의 사랑하는 자들을 따라가고 나를 잊었도다. {주}가 말하노라. 13. And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the LORD.

14. ¶ 그러므로, 보라, 내가 그녀를 끌어당겨 광야로 데리고 가서 그녀에게 위로하는 말로 이르고 14. ¶ Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.

15. 또 그때부터 그녀의 포도원을 그녀에게 주며 아골 골짜기를 소망의 문으로 주리니 그녀가 어렸을 때와 이집트 땅에서 올라오던 날에 하던 것 같이 거기서 노래하리라. 15. And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

16. {주}가 말하노라. 그 날에는 네가 나를 이쉬라 부르며 다시는 바알리라 부르지 아니하리니 16. And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.

17. 이는 내가 그녀의 입에서 바알들의 이름을 제거할 터인즉 그것들이 다시는 그것들의 이름으로 기억되지 아니할 것이기 때문이라. 17. For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.

18. 그 날에는 내가 그들을 위하여 들의 짐승들과 하늘의 날짐승들과 땅의 기어 다니는 것들과 언약을 맺으며 또 그 땅에서 활과 칼을 꺾고 전쟁을 중단시켜 그들이 안전히 눕게 하리라. 18. And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.

19. 또 내가 영원토록 너를 나와 정혼하게 하리니 참으로 내가 의와 판단의 공의와 인자함과 긍휼로 너를 나와 정혼하게 하며 19. And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.

20. 신실함으로 너를 나와 정혼하게 하리니 네가 {주}를 알리라. 20. I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.

21. 그 날에는 내가 들으리라. {주}가 말하노라. 나는 하늘들의 말을 듣고 그것들은 땅의 말을 들으며 21. And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;

22. 땅은 곡식과 포도즙과 기름의 말을 듣고 그것들은 예스르엘의 말을 들으리라. 22. And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.

23. 내가 그녀를 땅에서 내게로 심고 긍휼을 얻지 못하였던 그녀에게 긍휼을 베풀며 내 백성이 아니던 자들에게 이르기를, 너는 내 백성이라, 하고 그들은 이르기를, 주는 나의 하나님이시니이다, 하리라. 23. And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.

3장

1. 그때에 {주}께서 내게 이르시되, 다른 신들을 바라보고 포도주 병을 사랑하는 이스라엘 자손을 향한 {주}의 사랑에 따라 또 가서 자기 친구에게 사랑받는 여인 그러나 간음한 여인을 사랑하라, 하시니라. 1. Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

2. 이에 내가 은 열다섯 개와 보리 일 호멜과 보리 반 호멜로 나를 위해 그녀를 사고 2. So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:

3. 그녀에게 이르기를, 너는 많은 날 동안 나를 위해 거하고 창녀 짓을 행하지 말며 다른 남자를 위하지 말라. 그처럼 나도 너를 위하리라, 하였으니 3. And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.

4. 이는 이스라엘 자손이 많은 날 동안 왕도 없고 통치자도 없고 희생물도 없고 형상도 없고 에봇도 없고 드라빔도 없이 거하다가 4. For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:

5. 그 뒤에 이스라엘 자손이 돌아와 {주} 자기들의 하나님과 자기들의 왕 다윗을 찾고 마지막 날들에 {주}와 그분의 선하심을 두려워할 것이기 때문이라. 5. Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.

4장

1. 이스라엘 자손들아, 너희는 {주}의 말씀을 들으라. 그 땅에 진리도 없고 긍휼도 없고 하나님을 아는 지식도 없으므로 {주}께서 그 땅의 거주민들과 논쟁하시느니라. 1. Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.

2. 그들이 맹세하고 거짓말하며 살인하고 도둑질하며 간음을 행함으로 터져서 피와 피가 닿는도다. 2. By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.

3. 그러므로 그 땅이 애곡하며 그 안에 거하는 모든 사람이 들의 짐승들과 하늘의 날짐승들과 더불어 쇠약할 것이요, 참으로 바다의 물고기들도 없어지리라. 3. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

4. 그러나 아무도 다투지 말며 남을 책망하지 말라. 이는 네 백성이 제사장과 다투는 자들같이 되었기 때문이라. 4. Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.

5. 그러므로 너는 낮에 넘어지고 또 대언자는 밤에 너와 함께 넘어지며 또 내가 네 어머니를 멸하리라. 5. Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.

6. ¶ 내 백성이 지식이 부족하므로 망하는도다. 네가 지식을 거부하였으므로 나도 너를 거부하여 네가 나를 위해 제사장이 되지 못하게 할 것이요, 네가 네 하나님의 율법을 잊었은즉 나도 네 자녀들을 잊으리라. 6. ¶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

7. 그들이 불어날수록 내게 죄를 지었은즉 내가 그들의 영광을 수치로 바꾸리라. 7. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.

8. 그들이 내 백성의 죄를 먹고 자기 마음을 자기 불법에 두나니 8. They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

9. 그 백성에 그 제사장이 되리라. 내가 그들의 길들로 인하여 그들을 벌하며 그들의 행위들대로 그들에게 보응하리라. 9. And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.

10. 그들이 {주}에게 주의를 기울이는 일에서 떠났으므로 먹어도 족하지 아니하고 행음해도 늘지 아니하리라. 10. For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.

11. 행음과 포도주와 새 포도즙이 마음을 빼앗아 가느니라. 11. Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

12. ¶ 내 백성이 자기들의 나무토막에게 조언을 구하고 그들의 막대기가 그들에게 밝히 말하나니 이는 행음의 영이 그들로 하여금 잘못을 범하게 하므로 그들이 자기들의 하나님 밑에서 떠나 음행의 길로 갔기 때문이니라. 12. ¶ My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

13. 그들이 산꼭대기에서 희생물을 드리며 작은 산 위에서 분향하되 상수리나무와 포플러나무와 느릅나무 밑에서 하나니 이는 그것들의 그늘이 좋기 때문이라. 그러므로 너희 딸들은 행음하며 너희 배우자들은 간음하리로다. 13. They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.

14. 너희 딸들이 행음하며 너희 배우자들이 간음해도 내가 그들을 벌하지 아니하리니 그들은 스스로 분리하여 음녀들과 함께하며 창녀들과 함께 희생물을 드리느니라. 그러므로 깨닫지 못하는 백성은 넘어지리라. 14. I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.

15. ¶ 비록 너 이스라엘이 창녀 짓을 행하여도 유다는 죄를 범하지 말지니라. 너희는 길갈로 가지도 말고 벧아웬으로 올라가지도 말며 또, {주}께서 살아 계신다, 하고 맹세하지도 말라. 15. ¶ Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.

16. 이스라엘이 뒤로 물러서는 암송아지같이 뒤로 물러서므로 이제 {주}가 넓은 곳에서 어린양을 먹이는 것 같이 그들을 먹이리라. 16. For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

17. 에브라임은 우상들과 연합하였으니 그를 내버려 둘지니라. 17. Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.

18. 그들의 마시는 것이 시게 되었느니라. 그들이 계속해서 행음하며 그녀의 치리자들은 수치스럽게도, 너희는 돈을 내라, 하고 말하기를 좋아하는도다. 18. Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.

19. 바람이 이미 자기 날개로 그녀를 싸매었은즉 그들이 자기들의 희생물로 인하여 부끄러움을 당하리라. 19. The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

5장

1. 오 제사장들아, 너희는 이것을 들으라. 이스라엘의 집아, 너희는 귀를 기울이라. 오 왕의 집아, 너희는 귀를 기울이라. 너희가 미스바 위에 놓은 올무가 되며 다볼 위에 친 그물이 되었으므로 심판이 너희를 향하였도다. 1. Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.

2. 내가 반역하는 자들을 다 책망하였음에도 불구하고 그들이 살육하는 일에 깊이 개입하였도다. 2. And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all.

3. 에브라임은 내가 알고 이스라엘은 나를 떠나 숨지 못하나니, 오 에브라임아, 이제 너는 행음하며 이스라엘은 더러워졌느니라. 3. I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, and Israel is defiled.

4. 그들이 자기들의 하나님께로 돌아서려고 자기들의 행위들을 바로 세우려 하지 아니하리니 이는 행음의 영이 그들의 한가운데 있어서 그들이 {주}를 알지 못하였기 때문이니라. 4. They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.

5. 이스라엘의 교만이 자기 얼굴을 향해 증언하나니 그러므로 이스라엘과 에브라임이 자기들의 불법 가운데서 넘어지고 유다도 그들과 함께 넘어지리라. 5. And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.

6. 그들이 자기들의 양 떼와 소 떼를 끌고 가서 {주}를 찾을지라도 그를 만나지 못하리니 그는 스스로 물러나 그들을 떠났느니라. 6. They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.

7. 그들이 {주}를 대적하며 배신하였도다. 그들이 낯선 자녀들을 낳았으니 이제 한 달이 그들과 그들의 몫을 삼키리라. 7. They have dealt treacherously against the LORD: for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.

8. 너희는 기브아에서 코넷을 불고 라마에서 나팔을 불며 벧아웬에서 크게 외쳐 이르기를, 오 베냐민아, 너를 쫓아온다, 하라. 8. Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: cry aloud at Beth-aven, after thee, O Benjamin.

9. 책망하는 날에 에브라임이 황폐하게 되리니 내가 이스라엘 지파들 가운데서 반드시 있을 일을 알렸노라. 9. Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.

10. 유다의 통치자들은 경계를 옮기는 자들 같은즉 내가 내 진노를 그들 위에 물같이 부으리라. 10. The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.

11. 에브라임은 자원하여 명령을 따라 걸었으므로 학대를 당하고 심판 중에 부서졌도다. 11. Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.

12. 그러므로 내가 에브라임에게는 좀같이 되며 유다의 집에게는 썩은 것같이 되리로다. 12. Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.

13. 에브라임이 자기의 병을 보며 유다가 자기의 상처를 보더니 에브라임은 아시리아 사람에게로 갔고 야렙 왕에게 사람을 보내었으나 그가 능히 너희를 고치지 못하고 너희 상처를 치료하지 못하리라. 13. When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

14. 내가 에브라임에게는 사자같이 되고 유다의 집에게는 젊은 사자같이 되어 나 곧 내가 찢고 떠나가리라. 내가 제거하리니 아무도 그를 구출하지 못하리라. 14. For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.

15. ¶ 그들이 자기들의 범죄를 인정하고 내 얼굴을 구할 때까지 내가 가서 내 처소로 돌아가리라. 그들이 자기들의 고난 중에서 나를 일찍 찾으리라. 15. ¶ I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

6장

1. 오라, 우리가 {주}께로 돌아가자. 그분께서 우리를 찢으셨으나 우리를 낫게 하시리라. 그분께서 우리를 치셨으나 우리를 싸매어 주시리라. 1. Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

2. 이틀 뒤에 그분께서 우리를 되살리시며 셋째 날에 우리를 일으키시리니 우리가 그분의 눈앞에서 살리로다. 2. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

3. 우리가 계속해서 {주}를 알고자 하면 그때에 우리가 알리라. 그분의 나아오심은 아침같이 예비되어 있으며 그분께서는 비같이 곧 땅에 내리는 늦은 비와 이른 비같이 우리에게 임하시리라. 3. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

4. ¶ 오 에브라임아, 내가 네게 어떻게 하랴? 오 유다야, 내가 네게 어떻게 하랴? 너희의 선함은 아침 구름 같고 사라지는 새벽이슬 같나니 4. ¶ O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.

5. 그러므로 내가 대언자들로 그들을 넘어뜨리고 내 입의 말들로 그들을 죽였노라. 너에 대한 심판은 앞으로 나아가는 빛 같으니라. 5. Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.

6. 나는 긍휼을 원하고 희생물을 원치 아니하며 번제 헌물보다 하나님 아는 것을 더 원하였으나 6. For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

7. 그들은 사람들같이 언약을 어기며 거기서 나를 대적하고 배신하였도다. 7. But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

8. 길르앗은 불법을 행하는 자들의 도시로서 피로 더럽게 되었도다. 8. Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.

9. 강도떼가 사람을 기다리는 것 같이 제사장들의 무리가 동의하여 길에서 살인을 행하나니 그들은 음탕한 짓을 행하는도다. 9. And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.

10. 내가 이스라엘의 집에서 끔찍한 일을 보았는데 거기에 에브라임의 행음이 있으며 이스라엘이 더럽혀졌느니라. 10. I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.

11. 또한, 오 유다야, 내가 내 백성의 포로 된 것을 돌이킬 때에 그가 너를 위해 수확할 것을 정하였느니라. 11. Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.

7장

1. 내가 이스라엘을 치료하고자 할 때에 에브라임의 불법과 사마리아의 사악함이 드러났도다. 그들은 거짓을 행하며 도둑은 안으로 들어가고 강도떼는 밖에서 노략하는도다. 1. When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, and the troop of robbers spoileth without.

2. 내가 그들의 모든 사악함을 기억하고 있음을 그들이 마음속으로 깊이 생각하지 아니하는도다. 이제 그들의 행위들이 그들을 에워쌌으며 그것들이 내 얼굴 앞에 있도다. 2. And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.

3. 그들은 자기들의 사악함으로 왕을 즐겁게 하고 자기들의 거짓말로 통치자들을 즐겁게 하는도다. 3. They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.

4. 그들은 다 간음하는 자들로서 빵 굽는 자가 달군 화덕 같으니라. 그는 반죽을 만든 뒤에 그것이 발효되기 전에 부풀리기를 멈추느니라. 4. They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.

5. 우리 왕의 날에 통치자들은 그를 포도주 부대로 병들게 하였으며 그는 비웃는 자들과 함께 손을 내밀었도다. 5. In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.

6. 그들은 숨어서 기다릴 때에 자기들의 마음을 화덕과 같이 예비하였도다. 그들의 빵 굽는 자가 밤새 자다가 아침에 불꽃같이 그것에 불을 붙이매 6. For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.

7. 그들이 다 화덕같이 뜨거워져서 자기들의 재판관들을 삼켰으며 자기들의 모든 왕들을 쓰러지게 하였도다. 그들 가운데는 나를 부르는 자가 하나도 없도다. 7. They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.

8. 에브라임 곧 그가 백성들 가운데서 자신을 섞었으니 에브라임은 뒤집지 않은 납작한 빵이로다. 8. Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

9. 타국인들이 그의 기력을 삼켰으나 그는 그것을 알지 못하는도다. 참으로 흰머리가 그에게 여기저기 생겨도 그가 알지 못하는도다. 9. Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.

10. 이스라엘의 교만이 그의 얼굴을 향해 증언하되 그들이 이 모든 일에도 불구하고 {주} 자기들의 하나님께로 돌아오지 아니하며 그분을 찾지도 아니하는도다. 10. And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.

11. ¶ 또한 에브라임은 심장이 없는 어리석은 비둘기 같아서 그들이 이집트를 부르며 아시리아로 가는도다. 11. ¶ Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.

12. 그들이 갈 때에 내가 내 그물을 그들 위에 쳐서 하늘의 날짐승같이 그들을 떨어뜨리고 그들의 회중이 들은 대로 그들을 징계하리라. 12. When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.

13. 그들이 나를 버리고 도망하였은즉 그들에게 화가 있을지어다! 그들이 내게 범법하였은즉 그들에게 파멸이 있을지어다! 내가 그들을 구속하였을지라도 그들이 나를 대적하여 거짓말을 하고 13. Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

14. 침상에서 울부짖을 때에도 자기 마음을 다하여 내게 부르짖지 아니하였으니 그들은 곡식과 포도즙을 위해 모이고 나를 거역하는도다. 14. And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.

15. 내가 그들의 팔을 싸매어 강하게 하였을지라도 그들이 해악을 꾀하여 나를 대적하는도다. 15. Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.

16. 그들이 돌아오나 지극히 높은 이에게 돌아오지 아니하니 그들은 속이는 활 같도다. 그들의 통치자들은 자기들의 혀를 날뛰게 하였으므로 칼에 쓰러지리니 이것이 이집트 땅에서 그들에 대한 조롱거리가 되리라. 16. They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

8장

1. 나팔을 네 입에 댈지어다. 그가 독수리같이 {주}의 집을 치려고 임하리니 이는 그들이 내 언약을 어기고 내 율법을 범하였기 때문이라. 1. Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

2. 이스라엘이 내게 부르짖기를, 내 하나님이여, 우리가 주를 아나이다, 하리라. 2. Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

3. 이스라엘이 이미 선한 것을 내버렸으니 원수가 그를 추격하리라. 3. Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

4. 그들이 왕들을 세웠으나 나를 통해 하지 아니하였으며 그들이 통치자들을 세웠으나 내가 그것을 알지 못하였느니라. 그들이 자기를 끊어 버리려고 자기의 은과 금으로 자기를 위해 우상들을 만들었도다. 4. They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

5. ¶ 오 사마리아야, 네 송아지가 너를 내버렸느니라. 내 분노가 그들을 향해 타올랐거니와 그들이 무죄함에 이르려면 얼마나 있어야 하겠느냐? 5. ¶ Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

6. 이스라엘로부터 또한 그것이 나왔도다. 기술자가 그것을 만들었은즉 그것은 하나님이 아니니라. 오직 사마리아의 송아지가 산산조각 나리니 6. For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

7. 그들이 바람을 심었은즉 회오리바람을 거두리라. 그것이 줄기가 없은즉 싹이 양식을 내지 못할 것이요, 혹시 낸다 할지라도 타국인들이 그것을 삼키리라. 7. For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

8. 이스라엘이 삼켜졌은즉 이제 그들이 이방인들 가운데서 기쁨을 담지 않은 그릇같이 되리니 8. Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

9. 이는 그들이 아시리아로 올라가서 자기 홀로 거하는 들나귀가 되었기 때문이라. 에브라임이 사랑하는 자들을 고용하였도다. 9. For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

10. 참으로 그들이 민족들 가운데서 고용하였을지라도 이제 내가 그들을 모으리니 그들이 통치자들의 왕이 지워 준 짐으로 인하여 잠시 슬퍼하리라. 10. Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

11. 에브라임이 죄를 지으려고 많은 제단을 만들었으므로 제단들이 그에게 죄짓게 하는 것이 되리라. 11. Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

12. 내가 그를 위하여 내 율법의 위대한 것들을 기록하였으나 그들은 그것들을 낯선 것으로 여겼도다. 12. I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

13. 그들이 내 헌물의 희생물로 고기를 드리고 그것을 먹을지라도 {주}는 그것들을 받지 아니하고 이제 그들의 불법을 기억하며 그들의 죄들을 벌하리니 그들이 이집트로 돌아가리라. 13. They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

14. 이스라엘은 자기를 [만드신 이]를 잊어버리고 신전들을 지으며 유다는 성벽을 두른 도시들을 많이 늘렸으나 내가 그의 도시들에 불을 보내어 그것이 거기의 궁궐들을 삼키게 하리라. 14. For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

9장

1. 오 이스라엘아, 다른 백성같이 기쁨으로 인해 기뻐하지 말라. 네가 네 하나님을 떠나 음행의 길로 갔으며 모든 곡식 마당에서 음행의 대가를 사랑하였느니라. 1. Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.

2. 타작마당과 포도즙 틀이 그들을 먹이지 못하고 그녀에게 새 포도즙이 떨어지리라. 2. The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.

3. 그들은 {주}의 땅에 거하지 못하고 에브라임은 이집트로 돌아가며 그들이 아시리아에서 부정한 것들을 먹으리라. 3. They shall not dwell in the LORD'S land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.

4. 그들이 {주}께 포도즙 헌물을 드리지 못하며 그분을 기쁘게 하지도 못하리라. 그들의 희생물이 그들에게는 애곡하는 자들의 빵과 같아서 그것을 먹는 모든 자들이 더러워지리니 이는 그들의 혼을 위한 그들의 빵이 {주}의 집으로 들어오지 못할 것이기 때문이니라. 4. They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.

5. 너희가 엄숙한 날과 {주}의 명절에 무엇을 하겠느냐? 5. What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?

6. 보라, 그들이 멸망으로 인해 떠나갔도다. 이집트가 그들을 모으고 멤피스가 그들을 묻으리니 그들의 은을 두는 좋은 장소는 쐐기풀이 차지할 것이요, 그들의 장막들 안에는 가시나무가 있으리라. 6. For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.

7. 징벌하는 날들이 이르렀고 보응하는 날들이 이르렀은즉 이스라엘은 그것을 알지니라. 네 불법이 많고 미워함이 크므로 대언자는 어리석은 자가 되고 영적인 사람은 미치게 되었느니라. 7. The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.

8. 에브라임의 파수꾼이 내 하나님과 함께하였으나 대언자가 그의 모든 길에서 새 사냥꾼의 올무가 되었으며 그의 하나님의 집에서 미운 것이 되었도다. 8. The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.

9. 그들이 기브아의 시대에서와 같이 자신을 심히 부패시켰으니 그러므로 그분께서 그들의 불법을 기억하고 그들의 죄들을 벌하시리라. 9. They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.

10. 내가 광야에서 포도를 만나는 것 같이 이스라엘을 만났으며 무화과나무에서 처음 맺힐 때의 처음 익은 열매를 보는 것 같이 너희 조상들을 보았으되 그들이 바알브올에게로 가서 자신을 분리하여 그 수치스러운 것에 이르렀으니 그들의 가증한 일은 그들이 사랑한 그대로니라. 10. I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baal-peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.

11. 에브라임으로 말하건대 그들의 영광이 태어날 때부터, 태에 있을 때부터, 수태할 때부터 새같이 날아가리라. 11. As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

12. 그들이 비록 자녀들을 기를지라도 내가 그들을 앗아가서 한 사람도 남기지 아니하리라. 참으로 내가 그들을 떠나는 때에는 그들에게 또한 화가 있으리로다! 12. Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!

13. 내가 두로를 보았듯이 에브라임은 좋은 곳에 심겼도다. 그러나 에브라임은 자기 자녀들을 낳아 살인하는 자에게 내주리로다. 13. Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.

14. 오 {주}여, 그들에게 주소서. 주께서 무엇을 주시겠나이까? 그들에게 유산하는 태와 마른 젖가슴을 주시옵소서. 14. Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

15. 그들의 모든 사악함은 길갈에 있도다. 거기서 내가 그들을 미워하였노라. 그들의 행위들이 사악하므로 내가 그들을 내 집에서 쫓아내고 다시는 그들을 사랑하지 아니하리라. 그들의 모든 통치자들은 반역하는 자들이니라. 15. All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.

16. 에브라임은 얻어맞고 뿌리가 말라 열매를 맺지 못하리니 참으로 그들이 낳을지라도 내가 그들의 태에서 나온 그 사랑하는 열매를 죽이리라. 16. Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.

17. 그들이 내 하나님께 귀를 기울이지 아니하였으므로 그분께서 그들을 내버리시리니 그들이 민족들 가운데서 떠도는 자가 되리라. 17. My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

10장

1. 이스라엘은 텅 빈 포도나무요, 자기를 위해 열매를 맺는 나무로다. 자기 열매가 많은 대로 그가 제단들을 늘렸으며 자기 땅이 좋은 대로 그들이 좋은 형상들을 만들었도다. 1. Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

2. 그들의 마음이 나뉘었으니 이제 그들이 잘못한 자로 드러나리라. 그분께서 그들의 제단들을 파괴하시고 그들의 형상들을 못 쓰게 하시리니 2. Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.

3. 이제 그들이 이르기를, 우리가 {주}를 두려워하지 아니하였으므로 우리에게 왕이 없도다. 그런즉 왕이 우리에게 무엇을 하리요? 하리라. 3. For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?

4. 그들이 언약을 맺을 때에 거짓으로 맹세하며 말들을 하였으니 이와 같이 심판이 밭고랑의 독초같이 일어나는도다. 4. They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

5. 사마리아의 거주민들이 벧아웬의 송아지들로 인하여 두려워하리니 이는 거기의 영광이 그것을 떠났으므로 거기의 백성이 그것을 두고 애곡하며 그것을 기뻐하던 거기의 제사장들도 그리할 것이기 때문이라. 5. The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

6. 그것도 아시리아로 옮겨져서 야렙 왕을 위한 예물이 되리니 에브라임은 수치를 받고 이스라엘은 자기 계획을 부끄러워하리로다. 6. It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

7. 사마리아로 말하건대 그녀의 왕이 물 위의 거품같이 끊어졌도다. 7. As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.

8. 또한 이스라엘의 죄 곧 아벤의 산당들은 파괴될 것이요, 그것들의 제단들 위에 가시와 엉겅퀴가 나서 그들이 산들에게 이르기를, 우리를 덮으라, 하며 작은 산들에게 이르기를, 우리 위에 무너지라, 하리라. 8. The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

9. 오 이스라엘아, 네가 기브아의 시대로부터 죄를 지었도다. 그들이 거기에 서 있었는데 불법의 자손들을 치려고 일어난 기브아에서의 전쟁이 그들을 따라잡지 못하였느니라. 9. O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.

10. 내가 원하는 바는 그들을 징계하는 것이라. 그들이 자기들의 두 밭고랑에서 자기들을 묶을 때에 백성이 모여서 그들을 치리라. 10. It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.

11. 에브라임은 마치 가르침을 받은 암송아지 같아서 곡식 밟기를 좋아하나 내가 그녀의 아름다운 목 위로 넘어갔도다. 이제 내가 에브라임이 타게 하리니 유다는 밭을 갈고 야곱은 자기의 흙덩어리를 부수리라. 11. And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.

12. 너희 자신을 위하여 의 안에서 심고 긍휼 안에서 거두며 너희의 묵은 땅을 부수라. 지금은 곧 {주}를 찾을 때니 마침내 그분께서 오셔서 의를 비같이 너희에게 내리시리라. 12. Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

13. 너희가 사악함을 경작하여 불법을 거두고 거짓의 열매를 먹었으니 이는 네가 네 길을 신뢰하고 네 용사들이 많음을 신뢰하였기 때문이라. 13. Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

14. 그러므로 네 백성 가운데서 소동이 일어나며 네 모든 요새가 노략을 당하되 곧 살만이 전쟁의 날에 벧아벨을 노략한 것 같으리라. 그때에 어머니가 자기 자식들 위에서 산산조각 났느니라. 14. Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.

15. 너희의 사악함이 크므로 벧엘이 이와 같이 너희에게 행하리니 이스라엘 왕이 하루 아침에 완전히 끊어지리라. 15. So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.

11장

1. 이스라엘이 아이였을 때에 내가 그를 사랑하였고 내 아들을 이집트에서 불러내었노라. 1. When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

2. 내 종들이 그들을 부를수록 그들이 저들을 떠나가서 바알들에게 희생물을 드리고 새긴 형상들에게 분향하였느니라. 2. As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

3. 내가 또한 에브라임의 팔을 잡고 그들에게 길 가는 것을 가르쳤으나 그들은 내가 자기들을 고친 줄을 알지 못하였느니라. 3. I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.

4. 내가 사람의 줄 곧 사랑의 띠로 그들을 이끌었나니 곧 그들에게 내가 그들의 턱에서 멍에를 벗기는 자들 같았으며 또 내가 그들을 위해 먹을 것을 두었노라. 4. I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.

5. ¶ 그가 이집트 땅으로 돌아가지 못하고 그 아시리아 사람이 그의 왕이 되리니 이는 그들이 돌아오기를 거부하였기 때문이라. 5. ¶ He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.

6. 그들의 계략으로 인해 칼이 그의 도시들에 머무르며 그의 가지들을 소멸시키고 그들을 삼키리라. 6. And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.

7. 내 백성이 나를 떠나 뒤로 물러나기로 작심하였으므로 내 종들이 그들을 [지극히 높으신 이]에게로 불렀을지라도 아무도 전혀 그분을 높이려 하지 아니하는도다. 7. And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.

8. 에브라임아, 내가 어찌 너를 내주겠느냐? 이스라엘아, 내가 어찌 너를 넘겨주겠느냐? 내가 어찌 너를 아드마같이 만들겠느냐? 내가 어찌 너를 스보임같이 두겠느냐? 내 마음이 내 속에서 돌아서매 내가 뜻을 돌이키는 것이 한꺼번에 불같이 타오르는도다. 8. How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

9. 내가 내 맹렬한 분노를 집행하지 아니하며 돌아와서 에브라임을 멸하지 아니하리니 나는 하나님이요, 사람이 아니니라. 나는 네 한가운데 있는 거룩한 자니 내가 그 도시로 들어가지 아니하리라. 9. I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.

10. 그들이 {주}를 따라 걸으리니 그가 사자같이 소리를 내리라. 그가 울부짖으면 그 자손들이 떨면서 서쪽에서부터 나올 것이요, 10. They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.

11. 그들이 이집트에서 나와 새같이 떨며 아시리아 땅에서 나와 비둘기같이 떨리니 내가 그들을 그들의 집에 두리라. {주}가 말하노라. 11. They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD.

12. 에브라임은 거짓으로, 이스라엘의 집은 속임수로 나를 에워싸되 유다는 여전히 하나님과 함께 다스리며 성도들과 함께 신실하도다. 12. Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

12장

1. 에브라임이 바람을 먹으며 동풍을 따라가서 날마다 거짓과 황폐함을 늘리고 그들이 아시리아 사람들과 언약을 맺으며 기름을 이집트에 실어 보내는도다. 1. Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

2. {주}께서 또한 유다와 논쟁하셨고 야곱을 그의 길들대로 벌하시며 그의 행위들대로 그에게 보응하시리라. 2. The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

3. ¶ 그가 태에서 자기 형의 발뒤꿈치를 붙잡고 또 자기 힘으로 하나님과 힘을 겨루되 3. ¶ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

4. 참으로 그가 천사와 힘을 겨루어 이기고 울며 그분께 간구하였도다. 그가 벧엘에서 그분을 만났으며 거기서 그분께서 우리에게 말씀하셨으니 4. Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;

5. 곧 {주} 만군의 하나님이시로다. {주}는 그분을 기억하게 하는 이름이니라. 5. Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

6. 그러므로 너는 네 하나님께로 돌이켜서 긍휼과 판단의 공의를 지키며 계속해서 네 하나님을 바랄지니라. 6. Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

7. ¶ 그는 상인이요, 그의 손에는 속이는 저울이 있도다. 그는 학대하기를 좋아하는도다. 7. ¶ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

8. 에브라임이 말하기를, 그럼에도 나는 부자가 되었도다. 내가 나를 위해 재물을 얻었은즉 그들이 내가 수고한 모든 것 중에서 죄가 된 불법 곧 내 안에 있는 불법을 전혀 찾지 못하리라, 하였도다. 8. And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

9. 이집트 땅에서부터 {주} 네 하나님인 내가 엄숙한 명절의 날들에 하던 것 같이 너로 하여금 장막들에 거하게 하리라. 9. And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

10. 내가 또한 대언자들을 통하여 말하고 대언자들의 사역을 통하여 환상들을 많이 늘리며 또 비유를 사용하였노라. 10. I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

11. 길르앗에 불법이 있느냐? 분명히 그들은 헛된 자들이로다. 그들이 길갈에서 수소로 희생물을 드리나니 참으로 그들의 제단들은 밭고랑에 쌓인 돌무더기 같도다. 11. Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

12. 야곱이 시리아 지방으로 도망하며 이스라엘이 한 아내를 얻기 위해 섬기고 한 아내를 얻기 위해 양들을 지켰느니라. 12. And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

13. {주}께서 한 대언자를 통해 이스라엘을 이집트에서 데리고 나오시매 그가 한 대언자를 통해 보존되었거늘 13. And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

14. 에브라임이 극심하게 그분의 분노를 일으켰으므로 그분께서 그의 피를 그의 위에 남겨 두시며 그의 [주]께서 그의 수치를 그에게 돌리시리라. 14. Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

13장

1. 에브라임이 떨면서 말할 때에는 이스라엘에서 자기를 높였으나 그가 바알로 말미암아 죄를 지을 때에는 죽었느니라. 1. When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

2. 이제 그들이 더욱더 죄를 지어 자기들의 은으로 자기들을 위하여 형상들을 부어 만들되 자기들이 깨달은 대로 우상들을 만들었는데 그 모든 것은 장인들의 작품이라. 그들이 그것들을 가리켜 말하기를, 희생물을 드리는 자들은 송아지들과 입을 맞출 것이라, 하는도다. 2. And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

3. 그러므로 그들은 아침 구름 같고 사라지는 새벽이슬 같으며 타작마당에서 회오리바람에 날리는 겨 같고 굴뚝에서 나는 연기 같으리라. 3. Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

4. 그러나 나는 이집트 땅에서부터 {주} 네 하나님이니라. 너는 나 외에 다른 신을 알지 말라. 나 외에는 구원자가 없느니라. 4. Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

5. ¶ 내가 광야 곧 심히 메마른 땅에서 너를 알았거늘 5. ¶ I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

6. 그들이 자기들의 초장이 내는 대로 배가 불렀고 배가 부르매 그들의 마음이 높아져서 그런 까닭에 그들이 나를 잊었느니라. 6. According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

7. 그러므로 내가 그들에게 사자같이 되고 길가의 표범같이 그들을 지켜보리라. 7. Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

8. 내가 새끼 잃은 곰같이 그들을 만나서 그들의 심장 꺼풀을 찢고 거기서 사자같이 그들을 삼키리니 들짐승이 그들을 찢으리라. 8. I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

9. ¶ 오 이스라엘아, 네가 네 자신을 파멸시켰거니와 네 도움은 내게 있느니라. 9. ¶ O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

10. 내가 네 왕이 되리라. 네 모든 도시에서 너를 구원할 다른 자가 어디 있느냐? 또 전에 네가 이르기를, 내게 왕과 통치자들을 주소서, 하더니 그 재판관들이 어디 있느냐? 10. I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

11. 내가 친히 분노하여 네게 왕을 주고 친히 진노하여 그를 폐하였도다. 11. I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

12. 내가 에브라임의 불법을 묶었은즉 그의 죄가 숨겨졌느니라. 12. The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

13. 해산하는 여인의 고통이 그에게 임하리니 그는 지혜가 없는 아들이니라. 그는 아이들을 쏟아 내는 곳에 오랫동안 머무르지 말아야 하느니라. 13. The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.

14. 내가 그들을 무덤의 권세에서 속량하며 사망으로부터 구속하리니, 오 사망아, 내가 네 재앙이 되리라. 오 무덤아, 내가 네 파멸이 되리라. 뜻을 돌이키는 것이 내 눈을 떠나 숨으리로다. 14. I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

15. ¶ 그가 비록 자기 형제들 가운데서 열매를 맺을지라도 동풍이 오리니 곧 {주}의 바람이 광야에서 올라오매 그의 근원이 마르고 그의 샘이 말라 버리리라. 그가 모든 아름다운 그릇의 보물을 노략하리라. 15. ¶ Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

16. 사마리아가 자기 하나님을 반역하였으므로 황폐하게 되리라. 그들이 칼로 말미암아 넘어지리니 곧 그들의 어린 아기들은 산산조각 나며 아이를 밴 그들의 여인들은 배가 갈라지리로다. 16. Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

14장

1. 오 이스라엘아, {주} 네 하나님께로 돌아오라. 네 불법으로 말미암아 네가 넘어졌느니라. 1. O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.

2. 너희는 말씀들을 가지고 {주}께로 돌이키며 그분께 아뢰기를, 모든 불법을 제거하시고 은혜롭게 우리를 받아 주소서. 우리도 그와 같이 우리 입술의 송아지로 보답하리이다. 2. Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

3. 앗수르가 우리를 구원하지 못하리이다. 우리가 말을 타지 아니하며 다시는 우리 손으로 만든 것에게 이르기를, 너희는 우리의 신이라, 하지 아니하리니 주 안에서 아버지 없는 자들이 긍휼을 얻나이다, 할지니라. 3. Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy.

4. ¶ 내가 그들의 타락한 것을 고치며 그들을 아낌없이 사랑하리니 내 분노가 그에게서 떠났느니라. 4. ¶ I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.

5. 내가 이스라엘에게 이슬과 같으리니 그가 백합같이 자라고 레바논같이 뿌리를 뻗으리라. 5. I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

6. 그의 가지는 퍼지고 그의 아름다움은 올리브나무 같으며 그의 향기는 레바논 같으리니 6. His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon.

7. 그의 그늘 아래 거하는 자들이 돌아오리라. 그들은 곡식같이 되살아나며 포도나무같이 자라고 그것의 냄새는 레바논의 포도즙 같으리라. 7. They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.

8. 에브라임이 말하기를, 내가 우상들과 더 무슨 상관이 있으리요? 하리라. 내가 그의 말을 듣고 그를 지켜보았노라. 나는 푸른 전나무 같으니 네가 내게서 네 열매를 얻으리로다. 8. Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

9. 누가 지혜가 있어서 이런 일들을 깨닫겠느냐? 누가 분별이 있어서 그것들을 알겠느냐? {주}의 길들은 올바르니 의인들은 그 길들 안에서 걸으려니와 범법자들은 그 길들 안에서 넘어지리라. 9. Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

1장

1. 유다 왕 여호야김의 통치 제삼년에 바빌론 왕 느부갓네살이 예루살렘에 이르러 그곳을 에워쌌더니 1. In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.

2. [주]께서 유다 왕 여호야김과 하나님의 집의 기구 중 일부를 그의 손에 넘겨주시매 그가 그것들을 시날 땅에 있는 자기 신의 집에 가져가서 그 기구들을 자기 신의 보물 창고에 들여 놓았더라. 2. And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

3. ¶ 왕이 자기 내시들의 우두머리 아스부나스에게 말하여 그가 이스라엘 자손과 왕의 씨와 통치자들 중에서 몇 사람 3. ¶ And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king's seed, and of the princes;

4. 곧 흠이 없으며 잘생기고 모든 지혜에 능숙하며 지식을 두루 갖추고 과학을 이해하여 왕의 궁궐에 설 만한 능력을 갖춘 아이들을 데려오게 하고 그들에게 갈대아 사람들의 학문과 말을 가르치게 하니라. 4. Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

5. 또 왕이 지정하여 그들에게 왕의 음식과 왕이 마신 포도주에서 날마다 필요한 양식을 주어 이렇게 삼 년 동안 그들을 양육하였으니 이것은 삼 년이 끝난 뒤에 그들이 왕 앞에 서게 하려 함이었더라. 5. And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.

6. 이제 이들 가운데는 유다 자손에 속한 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴가 있었는데 6. Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

7. 내시들의 통치자가 그들에게 이름을 주었더라. 그가 다니엘에게는 벨드사살이라는 이름을 주고 하나냐에게는 사드락, 미사엘에게는 메삭, 아사랴에게는 아벳느고라는 이름을 주었더라. 7. Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.

8. ¶ 그러나 다니엘은 왕이 정해 준 음식이나 왕이 마신 포도주로 자기를 더럽히지 아니하겠다고 마음속에 작정하였으므로 자기를 더럽히지 아니하려고 내시들의 통치자에게 요청하니 8. ¶ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9. 이제 하나님께서 다니엘을 인도하사 내시들의 통치자에게 호의와 친절한 사랑을 받게 하시니라. 9. Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

10. 내시들의 통치자가 다니엘에게 이르되, 내가 내 주 왕을 두려워하노라. 왕이 너희의 먹을 것과 너희의 마실 것을 지정하셨거늘 너희 얼굴이 너희 부류에 속한 아이들보다 못한 것을 그분께서 보아야 할 까닭이 무엇이냐? 그렇게 되면 너희가 왕을 위해 내 머리를 위태롭게 하리로다, 하니라. 10. And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

11. 그때에 다니엘이 멜살 곧 내시들의 통치자가 다니엘과 하나냐와 미사엘과 아사랴를 감독하게 하려고 세운 자에게 이르되, 11. Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
